I, myself, have always been a Zorin fan, ever since I laid eyes on her. heart She's powerful, sexy, and has a badass scythe. heart But i've seen so many people hate on her for some reason. I've never understood why people seem to hate her just for existing. cry If you have a valid reason for disliking her even a little bit, please tell me. Just don't go off on a tangent of "Oh, she killed Pip that's reason enough!" I honestly couldn't care about Pip, he never stood out to me. So, you won't get any sympathy from me, Pip people. neutral

I process character deaths differently then most people I know: If I was an uber big Pip fan, I would not hate Zorin. If I was an uber big Pip fan, I'd smile at the time of his death and be satisfied that I got to see a character all the way to the end, and not have to wonder just what they did after the end of the story... Then again, Pip's not so much dead, since he's in Seras, sooo... xD ...and if I DID choose to hate anyone for killing him, I would hate Hirano.... but I only hate character death if it's pointless.
*Please, see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where all of Suni's favorite characters either bleed to death, or die off page and only get a small mention instead of the glory they deserved
Sooo yeah. I wouldn't use Pip as a reason to hate Zorin... and, infact, I do not hate Zorin.
I actually quite like her, and have considered cosplaying her in the past. I wouldn't say she's one of my favorites, she's actually sort of... just there... for me, but I do like her. Rip was always my Millennium-love-who-makes-me-question-my-orientation. 3nodding
After I became a Rip Van Winkle fan, there was simply no room for anyone else.
Soo, I cannot provide with with a reason I hate Zorin, simply because, well... I don't. xd

I’d say that the main people who dislike Zorin are Pip fans, for obvious reason.
I find that hating a character just because they killed another is silly and pointless , as Suni said shouldn’t the dislike be aimed at the mangaka? Hirano’s killed a whole city and nearly all the main characters, crazy Pip fan girls should take it up with him.
Personally, I like Zorin, her character design and personality are incredible. She makes people go insane for a living, there’s nothing wrong with that. 3nodding

saying I hate Zorin for killing Pip is like saying I hate Sephiroth for killing Aeris or Snape for killing Dumbledore. :/ :/
I detest Zorin for the fact she fights unfair (I'm not too keen on illusion bullshit, I find it cheap) and is very much more overkill than anyone in the series.
I mean yeah, Jan popped a dead guys eye, but, he has that gangsta likable trait about him otherwise that makes him appealing, and Yumie's really Yumiko, and katanas = win no matter how gruesome it gets.
I dunno, I think it's Zorin's pyramid tits that scare me the most eek
oh, and before anyone else can say it
Rip >>> Zorin

Being a Millennium fangirl, Zorin does have her own little special place in my heart. I think what intrigues me the most about her is her "anti-bishoujo" design: tall stature, tattoos, muscles and a haircut shorter than even the guys'. However, her design may be why a lot of people don't like her. Shallow reason, but anime glorifies the pretty girl; and Zorin... She is, well... more gritty than pretty.
To be honest, I think her use of illusions was just a plot device used by Hirano to show us parts of Seras' and Pip's pasts that wouldn't easily fit in any other way into the story. And, any Pip fangirls who hate Zorin should read the author's notes at the end of Volume 7: Hirano stated that Pip was "lucky to be kept alive for so long"; and at some point he openly admits to have planned for Pip to be killed off earlier. So I agree that anger should be directed at him, not Zorin. xd

but... she killed the fangirl bait.
crying
lol, no seriously, i don't HATE her, i just think she was a lazy character artistically. her body proportions are PAINFUL to look at, she's lopsided as all get out PURPOSELY, her general design is eyebleed-inducing, especially the tattoos. she's also a cosplayer's nightmare thanks to the tats.
that, and she radiates evil like an old navy store. even doc is cuddly in comparison. i'd even hug major if given the chance, but zorin is like my aunt's cat in the mornings, i'd be afraid of losing an arm just for being within 100 miles of her.
she's just, erm, the hardest member to love i guess. *shrugs*
plus, she killed mah fangirl bait. dosen't matter if hentai-sama had planned his doom for a while, she was the pivotal char in his demise, and had a cringeworthy death herself.
just dude, cheesegrater, ew. *cringe*
hm, maybe that's part of it, i can't look at zorin without picturing the manor's new wallpaper design care of her face thing, y'know?

I felt very apathetic with Zorin, actually. She felt like just another Nazi soldier that got ******** up...REAL BAD. It was all Seras that night, so I couldn't worry about Zorin for too long

Kopii Arnaert Sir_Catherine Suni moon I wouldn't say she's one of my favorites, she's actually sort of... just there... for me, but I do like her. Of the Millennium characters I think I liked Zorin best so I'll agree with the above. Yes, I liked Zorin better than Rip. Rip never appealed to me to be honest. D: I'm a bit curious as to the reason myself. confused Personally, I dislike Rip the least of all the Millenium characters. Before the OVA I thought she was very pretty (Rip single-handedly emboddied my standard of beauty for both men and women) and I came to respect and admire her conviction of combat when she was cornered by Alucard. I felt so bad for how she died and for a long time I wanted to cosplay as her, but I couldn't because she's a Nazi (the Holocaust hit a little too close to home, sorry sweatdrop ). Zorin, eh... I just don't like her. I don't like the way she looks, I don't like the way she acts, I don't like the way she fights, I don't like the way she is. I think her illusions are an excessively cruel and cheap shot, I don't like how she toys with her opponents before killing them, and I don't like how she has absolutely no respect for any of her enemies no matter how worthy they are. Respect begets respect and since she has none for others than neither do I have for her. That, and... She tortured Seras! Not cool! scream gonk (That's right, instead of Pip you get an over-zealous Sera fangirl, lucky you rolleyes ).

There is no spectacular or deep reason, sorry to disappoint. Millennium as a whole wasn't my favorite organization but this was more because my inherent preference has always been with the original anime rather than with the manga. Thus even when saying "this is my favorite Millennium character" the opinion carries little fervor.
Rip....she is loved for her musical flair and operatic style, yes? Ask Angel, I am musically deaf and impaired and thus do not connect with Rip at all on those matters. As far as her being a beauty or her sense of style, my admiration rests with Integra. There is a love of her rifle (or shotgun? okay, her weapon) but my love is with Integra's sword and my mock Walther air gun.
I did enjoy the moment where Major prevents Dock from destroying Rip via remote control because Rip had performed her mission fully and had done all asked for her.
As far as Zorin goes, it was interesting to read her attack on the house, she spurred some conclusion to SerasxPip and the evolution of Seras's character. As far as her attitude and style goes, I was lucky enough to view both filtered through my friend's cosplay and that likely had a large impact on my opinions. My friend was wonderful at playing the creepy, fanatical, blood thirsty Nazi but retaining that certain spark that makes her my zany, nutty friend.
Did that help clear anything up?

I don't hate Zorin. I don't hate any of Hellsing's characters. In fact, I like them. I find them all terribly interesting. I think that each and every one of them is cool in their own way. It saddens me that so many people despise certain characters, especially when they despise those characters simply because they oppose their favorite characters. michigami lol, no seriously, i don't HATE her, i just think she was a lazy character artistically. her body proportions are PAINFUL to look at, she's lopsided as all get out PURPOSELY, her general design is eyebleed-inducing, especially the tattoos. she's also a cosplayer's nightmare thanks to the tats. It's funny that you should call her a "lazy character," considering how long it must have taken Hirano to draw her tattoos panel after panel, especially when she uses her powers. I feel that Zorin's design makes her unique. The only thing I don't like about it is her lazy eye. sweatdrop

I like her lazy eye... but I agree about Miche on the proportions of her body...
=/
There's something not quite right about her anatomy... Yes, yes, we all know that Hirano's style is already anatomically incorrect, and we love him for it... but Zorin seems worse, somehow.
....Perhaps he failed to draw her body correctly because he knew he'd be putting so much time into each tattoo, that her body didn't matter to him anymore?
Oh well. In a live action Hellsing, since the casting ideas for such a thing have circled through the net, and our guild, a million times... Well, let's just say that it's a shame Cory Everson is, I dunno, in her 50's now. rolleyes THAT is Zorins body... but actually proportionate.

I really like Zorin's character design, particularly her eyes. So...goatish! xd
Seriously, my main attraction to the Hellsing series was the way he draws eyes. ninja
And her tattoos are great.
I think why people don't feel initially positive towards Zorin is that she leads the attack on Hellsing, and the story is so caught up in the growth, revenge, and basic survival of Seras at that point, you're really supposed to want Seras to kill Zorin.
The illusions wouldn't be considered cheap if they were a main character power...people don't feel that way about the Getbackers guy, right? xp
I think that because it's Seras's climactic turning point as a character, people are rooting for her at that moment even if they're not fans of her, so Zorin really gets cast in a bad light. Plus there's the natural association with Seras's past, even if Zorin didn't have anything to do with the actual events.
And....are we saying Seras is proportionate? wink
