Just in case anyone's wondering, I've collected 5600g so far from secret gifts! I donated it to the thread for its second birthday.
The secrets collected so far are in the second and third posts, and you may comment here, but please read the rules first.
Rules:
1. Follow Gaia TOS
2. Be literate (this is an Intelli-thread spin-off, after all!)
3. Don't say hurtful things about the secrets. This is supposed to be a way to express deeply personal things in a non-judgmental environment, so follow your mother's advice and if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. (Knowing Intelli-threaders and what a great group they are, I don't think this is even necessary, but just in case)
4. The secrets you share should be things you've never shared on the main thread, and not many other threaders would know about you.
If you want to share a secret (or many secrets), it's easy:
1. Make sure you have something in your inventory that you're ready to part with*. It doesn't have to be expensive. An unwanted Daily Chance item or a Starter Set item will work just fine. Also, old Quest Items are available in the marketplace at rock-bottom prices. The only thing you can't use is a Game Item, as it appears that you can't give these as gifts (why, Gaia?? gonk ).
2. Once you have your item, go to your inventory and click on it. A message should pop up with a short description of the item, a picture, and a question asking if you want to equip the item. Below that, there will be a button that says "Give as Gift." Click it.
3. This will bring you to the gift-giving page. You can select a different color wrapping, if you wish. For the username under "Who the gift is for" type The Intelli-Secretkeeper .
4. Under "Add a Message" you have two options. You can simply type your secret, or you can give me a link to your virtual postcard**. Also be sure to check the "Give this gift anonymously?" option! Even if you forget this, I won't post your name in the thread, but if you don't want me to know that the secret is from you, this must be checked.***
5. Enter your password in the "Verify you password" section, and click "Submit" at the bottom of the page. This will take you to a confirmation page where you can check that you have the right item, message, and anonymous giving on. If you need to change anything, click "No" and it will take you back one page. If everything looks okay, click "Yes." You're done!
Any questions can also be asked by way of anonymous gift, or just ask Zeggy directly if you don't mind her knowing it's you!
* What will become of this item? Well, once I've collected a bunch, I'll sell them and donate the proceeds to the guild. That's the major reason why I set up a separate mule for this thread, to make it easier for me to see what gets sold and donated. And also so I don't think I'm getting an incredibly awesome present every time my main account receives a gift or trade. xd
** Virtual Postcards: In the real-life PostSecret project, people send in their secrets on one side of a postcard, which they usually decorate like a miniature work of art. For the Intelli-Secret, you can create a "postcard" with any image manipulation program you like, or even make an actual postcard and scan it in. (Then you can send the real postcard to the real PostSecret, and if we see it show up on the website, we'll know it was an Intelli-threader's secret. How cool would that be?)
When you're done making the postcard, upload it to an image-hosting site. If your regular image-hosting account uses your Gaia username, you may want to use a site that doesn't require an account, such as ImageShack. When I receive the link, I'll upload the postcard to my PhotoBucket account (which I share with my sister), so I won't be using your bandwidth and I can ensure that no postcards are accidentally moved or deleted. Then the postcard will be put in the third post of this thread.
There are no rules for how the postcard should look, but visit the PostSecret website if you want some examples. However, be aware that the images on the PostSecret site are copyrighted. Even if you have the same secret, you should make your own postcard!
*** In keeping with the spirit of the real-life PostSecret, non-anonymous secret-telling is not allowed. Not knowing whose secret is part of the fun. If you really have a secret that you want to tell non-anonymously, just post it in the main thread. wink
