One thing I have noticed throughout my school life and internet life is that whenever there are otakus, there will be emos. It's not just SOME emos that are interested in anime, but MANY emos; it's not even a minority in the otaku community.

Why are there so many emos in the otaku community? Why do they always talk about death or life being a bi*** at inappropriate times of conversation? They say being emo is such a gothic lolita or a L thing, but last time I checked, gothic lolitas nor L cut their wrists and cry in a fetal position in a corner of a room.

Probably one thing you noticed about me--I hate emos with a passion. Because of emos (I'm overgeneralizing a bit), people classify the otakus as the depressed weirdos who watch anime and slit their wrists with their friends.

So I'm asking for your opinion if otakus and emos are directly related or a coincidence. (I brought up this topic because emos irk me and I need to vent, and also because the guild topics have been slow lately).

I've never really noticed any connection between the two of them. Most of the emos are my school were trying to pull off a goth thing and play it off like goth and emo were always the same thing and that made it hardcore, so I'd just laugh at them xd

Yah, both wear black, but emos tend to be more suicidal (and wear tighter pants), hence why they receive their stereotype.

hmm... sweatdrop this is a hard one to talk... at my school there arre heaps of people who imitate being emos... but most are just fakers [i think anyways] I have a friend who is very suicidal... she's complaining, whining and making my life a misery... all because her mother asked her to clean out the bloody bird cage...

Ever since then, she's always saying "Lifes too hard, I want to die" or "What's the point if no-one listens to me about what i want!?" man, its pisses me off to the max!!
Everyday, something small makes her want to die... Her mother going to work, her having to babysit her sister.... these small things...

Noiw she thinks the whole world HATES her! She wants to die? She's more likely to kill me and her other friends bu her whining then kill her self... im not the only one whos sick of... all of my group is!

Yes this is partially why I dislike emos, they're so weak-willed and because they remind me of myself a few years ago.

I'm going to open myself up a little bit. A few years ago when I was an immature brat, I used to be depressed all the time and when my ex broke up with me at the time, I started to cut myself. I had eventually snapped out of my stupor and I realized that if I was going to be depressed all the time, the world wasn't going to get better.

After that, I started to contribute to the world, donating and helping in charitable benefactions (such as UNICEF), helping at the hospitals, donating blood (which I fainted from -.- ), and for tomorrow, I'm cleaning up trash in a river for the Environmental club.

As for the emos, I surely do hope they mature and not become junkies and potheads lurking in the attics, but realize they have more potential than to kill themselves.

Lol, most of my friends get files under the 'emo' banner, though not a one of them is a true emo. The few real ones I met annoy the hell out of me, and never have I wanted to slap some more than when they talk to me. Some who cuts them self doesn't bother me (you have a problem. I'm not going to hate for that). The people who try to get the whole world to hand them a razor are who bother me.

I don't think they are directly related. I think it's common for people to see their lives in the eyes of a certain anime character or strive to be that character or something... it happens with regular folks and normal tv too.

If someone around me is becoming emo I push them towards that suicide door. I've tried to commit suicide in the past numerous ways and just end up finding reasons NOT to go through with it. Like, example A, I will not kill myself today on my day off because House is on TV maybe later it will turn into "OMG, there's some hot cocoa leftover!" being a reason to stay alive. Simple things... just keep me going.
So, my friend Katie is often very suicidal. I go through this routine thing with her where I meet her in person and we go for a walk in a public place. I offer to buy her food, and she vents to me her life woes. If she mentions that she wants to die then I bring up all the things she wouldn't have to deal with if she were dead, and then we slowly bring the conversation around to all the things that she CAN'T do if she dies. All the things that she hasn't experienced yet, all the possibilities that lie waiting ahead. She cries a bit and calms down and we go get cheeseburgers and check out the waiters while I make fun of every person I see and predict how they might go about suicide. I've got to make jokes to cheer her up.

Back in the day, I was suicidal. I stopped simply cause death costs way too much, I don't wanna leave behind debt for people! D:

Never noticed that honestly. most of the emo's I knew were in the drama or color guard (their stuff was in the band place which I hung out at because I was an "honorary band geek"). A few of the Otakus I knew were also in the drama but not really with the emos and most were in the band. So I thought it was a band thing. One girl i knew was in band till HS and drama and liked anime but she slowly became emo in hs and stopped band all together and came to me for any anime information. XD so maybe there is a connection.

I don't even know how this emo thing all started...it pisses me off. >_>
Now everybody is dressing like they're "emos" too.
All these guys wearing girl pants when they clearly shouldn't. *barf*

@ Secret ninja Tsukasa: I wasn't talking about gothic lolitas, I was talking about emos. Two completely different things in my opinion.

@ Cabbage Emperor: Yah, haha XD well I knew this one guy who had the twiggiest legs ever and would wear tight pants and he told me that he felt naked if he wasn't wearing anything tight, haha. (Also this was the guy who was obsessed with me and tried to steal me away from my bf DX)

In truth...no emo's are not directly associated with being an Otaku...The emo otakus i talk to only watch death note...thats it...their not otakus...their just death note freaks.

Because emos and baby "otakus" both do what they're doing because they think it's "different."

Pretty obvious I think.
