What are the most frequently used counters in the Japanese language?
I highly doubt i could ever learn them all, so a nice list of the top needed ones would be great.

Well, Japanese has a long list of counters, but the most frequently used I think are:
Counting in general (i.e. plain numbers) used for amounts in yen, mai (the counter for sheets of paper), and do (counter for degrees as in temperature).
Others frequently used include: ji/jikan (counter for hours), gatsu (counter for months), hun (counter for minutes), hon (counter for sticks, pencils, and other long thin objects), gagetsu (counter for months as in "two months" or "four months"), hitotsu/futatsu (the counter for small items or other items that are of size that have no real counter), nin (counter for people), sai (counter for age), hiki (counter for small animals), nen (counter for year).
Not as important, but kai (counter for number of times doing something), kai (counter for number of floors in a building and different kanji from the other kai), and shuukan (counter for number of weeks like "two weeks" and "four weeks") are also used.
