umm yeah i don't know if any of you have been keepin up with the news or anything but just recently, Hurricane Ike hit the gulf coast and yeahhh houston, tx was involved. Ike was huuuuuge dude like woah damn. its been a week i think since ike hit but still most of houston is without power. and houston is a pretty big city so that's a lot of people without power. and if you guys are curious, here's a link to see some pictures of the damages ike caused on galveston, tx. its mad crazy
http://geology.rockbandit.net/2008/09/14/hurricane-ike-aftermath-galveston-photos/
anyway over in my part of houston, there's a lot of fallen fences, trees, powerlines, electrical poles etc and if i can, i'm gonna take a picture of the wooden electrical poles that snapped IN HALF (no s**t) and fell over in peoples backyards. creepy as hell. so yeah this by far is the biggest hurricane i've ever witnessed in my life and i had to share it with you guys lol my back fence is gone and satellite dish is ******** up. i know that's not a lot of damage but almost everyone around me has similar damage so there's a lot of repairing to be done. i've been driving around houston for the past few days and there's damage everywere. signs knocked over, trees split in half, uprooted... hmm what else.. oh yeah and i just had no power for one day. lucky us really but that was hell. i can't imagine how people have gone this past week without power and some of them still have another whole week to go without it =( nope i didn't evacuate. the night ike hit, i slept in the living room. lol i slept thru a hurricane. slept in my room for a while first, then moved to the living room cuz my window is not really... stable? i listened to the storm for a while though and it sounds soooo creepy with all the wooshing and rattling and stuff but eventually i put my headphones on and fell asleep. yeahhhh we made it through! yessss

i actually feel bad for my city and to be honest i did cry about it for a bit when i heard on the radio and saw on the news how bad houston is suffering... and galveston? damn... people can't even live there.

so anyway i think a while ago i created a natural disasters thread but i don't know where it is so here you can just talk about that.
anything thats about natural disasters, stories, facts etc

Yeah. Damn.
Hurricanes do plenty of damage. When Katrina hit it ruined thousands of homes and my school actually went on a mission trio to get help feed people and stock/rebuild places down there. It was bad.

Hurricane Katrina

As just a reminder, I was flooded out of house and home. I've told that story here too many times to repeat it though.
I kinda enjoyed the change of life though. xD

yeah hurricane katrina hit my mom hard because new orleans was her hometown, where she was raised and stuff. it was sad for me to watch the news too. i think about a year after katrina, my family and i went to new orleans for a funeral and whats weird is you can still see the water line on the buildings from where the water level rose. and we drove to the dead parts of new orleans, where there's no business, no people, nothing. its really depressing to see.

oh yeah and i was looking up some info on ike and i found on wikipedia a picture of what ike did to a city in lousiana called new iberia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hurricane_Ike_New_Iberia.jpg
now that was not on the news, don't know why and it looks just like the aftermath of katrina on new orleans wtf new orleans was all over the news though here in houston when it went underwater so why not this city, new iberia?

Man, that sucks. We didn't hear much about Ike after it went passed us. The news was pretty much like "Welp time to celebrate! Ike missed us and is heading somewhere else.... now in other news!"

Sorta reminds me of when we got gang banged by like five or six hurricanes a few years back and three of them where back to back. Pretty much all the coastal city's got flooded and almost all the middle and southern county's had major blackouts. It wasn't half as bad as Katrina though even though Katrina was weaker it was pretty much just shoveling water into a bowl and it had no way of getting out.
