Story Contest!
Welcome to Pride Lands' story contest! For a while now, the shop has been without a background story, which makes understanding its purpose a lot harder for the newcomers. And because I love seeing the regulars/customers of Pride Lands being included in major shop revisions, I thought I would hold this for you guys!
Like the title banner contest, this will be based mainly on creativity along with a few other aspects. This also gives the less art-inclined people a chance to have their work put on the front page of the shop.
So continue reading to find out how to enter!

Instructions and Guidelines
What exactly will you be doing and how are you supposed to do it? These simple guidelines will help you understand some of things needed in order to participate. Contest Regulations: You may enter anything you have previously written for Pride Lands before this contest One entry per person! Credit for the story will be put in the credits post in the main thread When the contest ends, three entries will be chosen as the "final three." I will then put up a poll within this thread and the people of Pride Lands will vote on what story they like the best. This does not mean voting for your friends because you like them better, this means voting for the story you think will look/fit best as the Pride Lands' story.* Winner will receive one, free custom where anything goes (except cosplays). This includes species, breed, colors, patterns, edits, etc. Yes, colorists, you can participate :3 Instructions: You will be creating a back-story for this event. Within your entry, you must include something associated with where the lions came from, how they got there, and/or why they are different from normal lions There are no restrictions as to what can be involved. This means that you are allowed to write about humans, objects, and other creatures within your story if you wish to do so A bit about Pride Lands itself should be included. The shop is based within Africa, but that doesn't mean it has to be within that continent. It can be on an island close by if you want. For further reference, there is a map located on the front page of the main thread. You may include all or one of the breeds (rares, cheetahs, hyenas), it's up to you Your story should be at least a page long. One or two paragraphs won't be enough to explain about the shop, nor will it even look like a story Don't worry too much about being perfect in your writing. Even if you're not strong in English, I'll go back through the winning entry and fix any spelling/grammar/wording errors. If your story is perfect, however, no changes will be made. * This has not been confirmed yet.

Story Time! Name: Yin-bug Story Title: >> Umm... I don't have one? Notes: This was writen at night >> Excuse any mistakes. Also I have never read Kami's story however if it is like hers I am sorry. I will take it out and Re-write it. Also if won. If there is anything that is wanted to be changed I am fine with it. ^.^ Submission Once in a small pride in Africa, a beautiful tan female roamed the lands not too far away from her pride. She was about to give birth to her first litter with the king of the pride. She was following her instincts, making a small distance between her and pride. She made her way under the shelter of a rocky cave and curled up in it. Soon labor pains struck her as she laid on her side, her cubs would be coming soon. After about two or three hours of a rough labor she slowly started panting and looked at her three cubs that laid at her side. She started to clean them again, watching them move toward her. She was glad to see the cubs moving around already. She started to relax as she watched them, one of the smaller ones worried her… he was so small… and just something about him was different. After a few days when the cubs started to open their eyes and stumble around some she noticed something strange about the smallest cub, her only son, he had hot pink eyes, quiet unnatural for a normal lion. Soon her small son got even stranger, the tuff of hair on his tail soon fell out, like a old balding animal, then she noticed three small things like feather’s on his tail, also she noticed three little feather like things sprout out of her head. She knew this wasn’t normal but she hoped that he would grow out of it. Before it was time to take her cubs to the pride she noticed that her son, once more proving himself more and more different, had a green tint to his pelt. After every day it was getting more and more pronounced, also a small white marking on his chest in the shape of a heart was on his chest. She would spend hours trying to clean it off but it never did. It was finally time for her to head back into the pride, her three cubs following in toe behind her. Her small green son Nok (nahk), whom had grown in size and was slightly larger than his sisters, proudly marched behind his mother. He was going to be hard to hide… and explain. He had no problem with his tail and ‘flakes’ or with being green but his mother did. The mother quietly moved up to the king to present him his cubs. She was trying her hardest to keep young Nok behind her, but he sprung out in front of her, right away she got a look from the king. He looked at the cub then at the mother and by the look on his face it was easy to tell he was not happy. “What have you brought me!?” The male’s voice was close to a roar, loud and demanding. He was outraged. “He-He’s your son sir.” The female said quietly, she noticed the Nok try to slink away from the king but a large paw pulled him forward as he looked down at Nok with a frown. “This cub could not be one of mine!” He motioned toward the other two cubs, Nok’s siblings, with the free paw he was not holding Nok with. “Those cubs are mine!” He looked at the female with a frown. “THIS!” He roughly turned the shaking Nok toward his mother. “Is your fault! You have ruined my perfect family bloodline; you are not worth being my mate!” His voice boomed even louder. Nok looked up at what was apparently his father, then back down at himself. What was the matter with him? He didn’t see anything at all with himself, but by the way his father was talking there was. “This cub is not mine, and it does not deserve to live.” He stood up and raised a large paw to the small cub, however when the king went to bring it down on the cub the body of another was in his way instead. “Ah!” He looked down at the mother of the cub, blood dripping down from her face, a twisted look was in his eyes. “I’ll take your life too then. Never again will another cub like that will be brought into this land.” Nok watched his father with fear, slowly before he could be noticed he took off, trying his hardest to get away from the den. He heard his mother’s voice pleading, but then with a roar it was quiet. Tears streamed down his face. He wanted to get as far away from there as possible. It was his fault that his mother was now dead. He blamed himself for it. He was different, and for some reason the there was something the matter with him. Nok traveled everyday from then. Soon he noticed he was still different than the others even more. His green coat stood out more and his what he called ‘flakes’ and his tail feathers grew with him. If he saw another lion at anytime he went the other way. He wanted to avoid others making fun of him, like they had before, and even more than that, he also didn’t want others to get upset about his appearance. Like his father did. One day he was sleeping under a tree, he spent his time sleeping during the day, resorting to traveling at night to avoid the chance of being seen. While he was sleeping he heard voices talking, quietly whispering. He opened his eyes to the intense daylight, which he just wasn’t used to anymore, only to find out that not all of what he was seeing was intense day light. Half of it was from the coloring of a bright yellow lioness and the other half was from what looked like a sun… no two suns. He blinked a few times and noticed one of the lionesses that were standing above him was colored the same color of the daytime sky with a sun marking on her. He blinked a few times not even too sure of what to say. He was so tired, his muscles sore and his eyes hard to keep open, he was pretty sure that he was dreaming. “Oh no, we woke the little one.” He heard the soft motherly voice of the yellow lionesses. “We should take him to Sahel. Poor little cub is probably confused out of his mind. Come Syny.” Another soft voice, which sounded like a song further, lured him back into his sleep, yeah he was dreaming, or that’s what he thought. The sky colored lioness gently lifted Nok into her jaw then started walking toward the pride.
Nok was confused when he woke up to a group of others around him. He noticed that most of them looked like him, odd colors, flakes and tail feathers. “Oh stop! He’s waking up you are going to scare him!” He heard a familiar songish voice; the one from his dreams. He was thinking maybe he was going insane until he noticed that the female was the same sky colored female then the yellow female move right behind her. “Little one, wake up, King Sahel wants to see you. Don’t be afraid he will explain everything to you.” At that moment he noticed flakes and tail feathers on the two females. He wasn’t about to follow her but the fact that they were also odd made him feel slightly more safe. He had a small problem trying to keep up with the two females with his small legs. He tried his hardest though, he tried his hardest though. It was a nice distance from where he was too a large cave. “Go on little one.” The yellow female gently nudged him in when he froze at the entrance. Nok wasn’t sure if it was safe to go in there by himself. “Don’t be afraid.” Nok looked up for a moment before bravely moving forward into the den. He stopped for a moment when he saw a platform like rock in the middle of the den. He looked up and noticed a large male. The male was black with gray tipped wings. His chin was also gray and so was his mane in spots, obviously from aging. He too had flakes and tail feathers. “Hello little one. What is your name?” The old male spoke his voice just as wise sounding as he looked. “Hello… um… My name… is Nok.” The cub spoke with slight fear in his voice. “Hello Nok. I am King Sahel. You are probably wondering why you are here?” He said looking down at Nok who just nodded. “Well you are different, as you’re probably already known, you see young Nok so am I, and so are all of the other lions who live on my lands. Why were you on your own?” “I ran away because I was different, my father wasn’t proud, I didn’t look like my sisters I was different. He… killed my mother because of it.” Nok said quietly to his question. “Ahh…” The King shifted and looked up as if he was thinking, and then he chuckled. “It is the same for me and so many of the others here. You see we all came from… ‘Normal’ lions. Then we were all sent off or almost killed because of it. I myself was seen as a god… I know that I am not but I got away anyway.” He shook his head. “You are the first that has come in a while. We have some cubs around here from some mates, some are my own children. None of them… come out normal, but that is okay you see. We are all different, and young Nok, you are welcomed into this pride just like all of the other misfits of the land. Hide no longer you are welcomed.” The cub looked up slightly baffled. “But… Where do we come from?” The cub asked quietly not sure if that question was really answerable. “Well…” Sahel started. “We are not entirely sure but what have I and many other lions here have noticed when certain two lions breed one or two of their cubs turn out odd like us… It’s uncommon, yes but to me it’s nothing to be ashamed of.” He smiled lightly at the cub. “Thank you Sahel, and thank you for taking me in.” Nok said quietly.
Nok was surprised by all of this he was not alone. He soon grew up as a large male in the pride. Like King Sahel he too sprouted wings, he and Sahel were looked up to because of the wings. When Sahel died he left Nok his place in the pride. Between the times that Nok arrived and a little longer after Sahel died some other lions like themselves had appeared in the lands, like Nok, right away welcomed in. He claimed a large amount of land for the families that were growing in the lands. New markings were showing up. Also like Nok some of the lions were growing wings, not long after that some just ended up different depending on the different lands they were born in and the family’s they were born two. Nok classified each as Lunars, Solars, Angelics, Demonics, Waters and fires, and of course the most common normal lions. Also two trees appeared… growing mysterious fruits that when eaten the consumer would become different taking the attributes of an Angelic or a solar and Ect. As Nok got older he noticed the population grew he and so did his lands, he noticed that he could not control all of the prides. He let the lions break off as rouges in the large lands that he claimed or start their own prides. Soon also some of the land that was taken near his was from hyenas and Cheetah’s. He happily shared the space with the neighbors, knowing that they really didn’t bother with each other much, they too were odd, different colors, that made them even more welcome to the lands Nok passed away after a long life. Leaving his home behind that he cared for so dearly, also the lions that he cared for. He spent most of his time guiding the others and teaching some of the younger ones. He passed on Sahel’s word about them being uncommon, rarely being born out of certain lions. They were a recessive gene, but if they breed with a lion of the same kind then more of them would be born. But no one was ashamed of this, they loved living together, and even though their leader was dead they would still move on strongly. Years and years later that’s where we are now. The lands still exist, the lions still with flakes and odd colors. And of course tail feathers. Lions come in many shapes and sizes. Also the lands have not changed much, it might not be peaceful all of the time and not all of the lions are the sweetest around. However these are still the Pridelands, and they always will be.

Submission Form
Story Time! Name: AriyaLauna Story Title: Entertainment of the gods Notes: Submission The gods and goddesses had a double fold problem. The first was unruly godling offspring.
"You shouldn't do that! The delicate balance that has been made will be broken and destroyed if you do that!" Call him Zeus or Jupiter, or whatever your mythology prefers, the chief god stood over his youngest two, an unknown minor god and goddess twin pair.
"Tell it to Diana and Mars."
Even Minerva, the goddess of the arts, opposed the youngsters, but there was no controlling the spoiled minors and their artistic impulses. One day, they were correcting the desert ("It is TAN, TAN! Not teal and silver and what color is that!?!"). The next day, Poseidon was lamenting over stripes whales and polka dotted sharks in impossibly vibrant, yet unnamed colors.
It created havoc in the animal kingdom. Animals well camouflaged suddenly weren't any longer, either by change of fur or change of land colors. Animals wise enough to avoid the poisonous sort suddenly found themselves victims as the warnings vanished into muted splotches.
But they were spoiled for a reason, and Zeus nor Hera would sufficiently handle who they knew would be their last offspring.
The second problem was an egotistical animal species.
"They've done it again! They've announced themselves kings and queens of the entire animal kingdom! They incorrigible, awful, vile, rotten beasts that wouldn't recognize a real deity if we all slapped them in the face! And haven't we done as much in the past?"
"Those lions are up to no good. They are creating an uproar in the animal kingdom. The number of their treacherous animal followers have sky-rocketed. We can't kill them all, it would ruin the balance. Especially with the hooligans running about. Why is it that troubles come in pairs?"
"Perhaps the pairs deserve one another." Minerva was also called Diana, and she was listened to when she spoke, "Perhaps we should convince Zeus to offer a portion of land to his precious babies, and gift them with the ever-most-noble of animals in the process." She smiled, "They'll destroy one another within the century, and then we can reclaim the land, without the problems."
And so it was agreed upon. A nice, large slice of African land and a good starter pride or three of lions within the said land. The lions in return for their loyalty to the twins would be gifted with gorgeous coloration, and a blessing of their promised kingdom.
Millenniums have passed since then. The twins, as the other gods and goddesses have done, have retired into a position where they are only myth and not religion. Sometimes they dwaddle a bit. It was amusing to give the lions lackeys in the birds and rats of the area, and even more amusing to color some of their enemies and competitive cousins. Sometimes it suits them still to take the imaginings from the minds of other sentient creatures living ages away and make them also into lion forms, but their positions are in the background. The lions rule their land well, even without the promised blessing of protection from the young god and goddess of ages past.

Because they're were so few entries, and I loved them both, you both win! XD So just post your form in mah den whenever you want and I should be able to get to them sometime this coming week.
However, instead of putting one story up there, I'm going to use both of those as an extension on to the original Pride Lands story. I'll make a thread in the guild and link them on the front page.
If you guys, Yin and Ariya, want to plot with me on how to to tie your stories together, please feel free to message me on MSN! We'll get a conference going and whatnot :3
