After hearing that my friend's tattoo was discovered by her mom at her appointment for a shot, I just realized that I find these stories quite interesting. Would anyone else provide such a story? Please include: -What your parents discovered. -Why/How your parents discovered. -Their reactions. -Result:
I'm considering getting one on my own accord without them knowing when I become of legal age, but I fear they might resent it... So stories would be useful. Thanks for your time.

Mum found out that I was getting my tat by me telling her "i'm getting a tat". She's got twice as many tattoos as I do so her reply was "cool". I was 16 at the time.

My little brothers saw them almost two years ago, but me and my girlfriend at the time convinced them they were "airbrushed" on. lame i know but it worked for a while. Well now he knows, and now I'm twenty so it really dosn't mattter either way. He knows about all 5 and he knows im getting more so oh well. pirate

Okay, hi, I'm new.
But anyway.
I'm just gonna jump right in.
Why would you guys hide tattoos from your parents? I mean, if you're under 18 and you didn't get permission, tsk tsk, if you're over 18 I don't think it should matter anyway.
My parents have known I've wanted a tattoo since I was 12, I'm now 17 and they signed for me to get it.
There was never any big deal about me getting one... My mom wasn't sure at first but she and even my grandmother like the tattoo now. My entire family thinks it's cute.

I have 2 tattoos, and when I got my 1st I was still living at home. I was 19, so it was perfectly legal, and I wasnt using thier money to buy it as girlfriend paid for it, so I went for it. They've always looked down on tattoos. But then I guess alot of typical old style middle class British parents would. I knew they wouldnt like it. They always felt tattoos were for rough sailors, criminals, freaks, or "common people". Anyways, I got it about 2 months before I was due to move out, so I kept it under wraps til I was gone (I wasnt sure how they would react and as I cant drive I was relying on my Dad to help me drive my stuff to my new flat). Once I'd moved I didnt see that much of them (I'd moved 300 miles away) so it never really came up in conversation so I kinda forgot about it. It was on my side so it was never obvious, and it wasnt playing on my mind or anything. It must have been about 8 months later that tattoos came up in conversation somehow and I told them. I showed them, and explained my reasons for getting it, and what it all meant to me. Suprisingly my mum said it was "pretty" and my Dad seemed fairly impressed I'd got my inspiration for it from a Sylvia Plath poem. So all in all it wasnt a big deal after all. Now I have my second, and am planning my third and fourth mrgreen

They knew about both of mine and knew it was my choice. Nothing too exciting to share.

when my dad found out about my tattoos, he was shocked and dismayed. but after a few weeks he got over it. now whenever i go visit him and he introduces me to his friends he makes me show them to them. one time he pulled up my pants leg to show someone when i wasn't paying attention. it just depends. as long as you use your money and are above 18 then dont worry.

Hello, everyone. My first tattoo was a home made tattoo in a friends garage with a needle and a broken pen. lol I did hide it from my mother, because well I was only fifteen and I was going through my rebel against the parentals. My dad has a bunch of tattoos and I always wanted one.
My mom found out. Simply because I forgot about it. It was a year later. By then it was just a part of who I was. She saw it and dragged me to all her friends that have tattoos or that are tattoo artists. Telling me about all the diseases I could have got.
She made me promise that if I was going to do it again. I would tell her and she would pay for it and just to make sure it was something I could live with the rest of my life.
I did. And now she loves my tattoos.
The other day even she asked me. "I don't mind, don't get me wrong. I'm just curious, are you going for the full sleeve thing?" All I could do was laugh. Because I haven't really thought of that. Maybe, maybe not. But for now I am happy.

Hmm ya my mom randomly saw my tattoo on my wrist and she got mad and yelled at me for like 10 minutes but she moved on because it was small. But I had got two tattoos at the same time so she still didn't know about the one on my lower back. So the next night I told her about the other one and yaaaa she yelled at me for the rest of the night and gave me these whole stories about how she can't trust me anymore......it took her one day to get over it haha and now she really doesn't mind them. My tattoos were worth the yelling hehe biggrin
Oh but my father still doesn't know and I never plan on telling him. He's just going to make a big deal out of nothing. Though I'm not encouraging the rest of you to hide your tattoos (it kind of sucks always having to worry about it when you are that certain you are hiding them from).

My brother got a tattoo two weeks ago. He's twenty, it shouldn't have been a problem. He kept it a secret from us because a friend of a friend did it for free when they were drunk and it's infected. He's in the hospital for it now. sweatdrop He had to have surgery on it last night because IV antibiotics weren't helping.
My parents aren't actually mad at him; they just think he's an idiot for letting it get so infected before getting it looked at.
