Hi there everyone. This is my first thread in the life issues section and I would like to point out that I feel as if this is the only forum I can ask for advice and get a serious response.

Here's the situation: This year, I am a senior in high school, preparing myself for life in the real world, going to college, and all that other stuff. I will most likely be going into the medical field, and am currently taking an anatomy and physiology class in high school.

Furthermore, in the pats two years I've been taking mixed martial arts, which I have a deep passion for. Every moment I'm practicing these martial arts is enjoyable.

Here's the dilemma: My martial arts teacher has raised the cost of classes beyond a price that I can afford and has also implemented a one year contract. However, I will be going to college before that year is up, therefore I can not practice martial arts anymore.
My mom also doesn't want me fighting in amateur competitions even though I deeply desire to. As well, college will take up all of my time that I could use for martial arts and since I will have to move away to go to college, I won't have anywhere to practice mixed martial arts because the city in which the campus resides that I will be going to doesn't have any martial arts schools in the area.

I feel like I won't be doing what I want with my life, I won't be practicing martial arts and enjoying myself. Instead, I will be suffering from stress-induced homework and studying for about 10 years of my life. It's come to where I have no clue what to do. Any ideas?

Well I to am a martial arts fan. And I to have faced similar dilemas.
But the answer to the question is what do you like more?

Would you be making MMA your job or a hobby?

I can't really help you to much cause this is a question of what do you love more and what are you willing to sacrifice. If being a doctor is your passion and you want to help people that way then go to medical school. Yet you say you want to compete in amature fights. I really don't know enough about the sport side of martial arts to help but this is not an answer I could purely give to you.
For me I'ld go with martial arts, simply cause you are at the age where it your body is most suited for it. But if you truly love medicine then to set yourself up for your future you would have to give up on sport martial arts and just use it as a part time hobby that you can use to condition your body.
Here is another point. You could get injured and be unable to preform your doctorly duties if you do martial arts first. There are so many factors. You definatly picked two fields that do not mix well lol. But you love them and I wish you luck in whatever you chose.

Id say to practice MMA while your going to college and see if anyone there also has a likeness for it and perhaps you and your group could spar in a local gym ?

Unfortunately, my college doesn't have any local MMA places near by it. And I would like to practice MMA more than I would enter the medical field, however I feel as if that would be nearly impossible. Not only because my family would disapprove, but also because I need a job of some sort to support myself and, like I said, there are no places to practice my martial arts around the college. The local gym could be a good place to workout, but I don't think it would work for martial arts practice.

Thanks for the responses though!
