It was a little past two o’clock in the afternoon, which meant two things, Andy knew.
The first thing was that Granny was making tea in the kitchen; he could smell the honey and fresh herbs already. The second thing was that it was time to listen to music - the music that Granny said reminded her of the old days when Grandpa and her used to dance until their feet fell off. The Manx really didn’t like that image. He thought Granny looked fine with her feet still on, even if pink, fuzzy slippers always covered them. While lofty music played in the background with tunes of older time eras, Andy had taken to perching himself on the windowsill of the open window in the living room. There was a nice breeze and hardly any traffic to watch outside of the apartment building.
Lazily, the blue-stained feline stretched out on his side and allowed his tan paws and feet to hang towards the outside world. His golden eyes were lowered to half-mast and his stub of a tail twitched occasionally to the slow drift and flow from the record player. He faintly heard Granny stirring in the other room, her stubby feet shuffling across the carpet to sit in her favorite chair and knit.
With a soft sigh, he closed his eyes gently, his ears alert to everything that moved both inside and outside of the window he laid beside.

Lumi had been pacing in Kisa's apartment all day. They had only been in the apartment building for a few days and she had been working so much that Lumi hadn't been able to go out very much any more. But Kisa had bought her a nice new collar and tag that she just loved. She sat in the window and watched as finally her car pulled in and Kisa began getting everything together. She stood, her long tail swishing as she climbed the stairs. She jumped off the couch and danced around the door as she finally came in. She watched as she carried her stuff in and walked into the kitchen. Lumi meowed at her. Kisa smiled and pet her back. "Hello. Want out?" she asked as she opened the front door. Lumi walked out and jumped onto the guardrail and walked along it looking around. She smiled to her self as she watched the sun setting in the distance. She sat to watch it, not noticing that she was near another window with a cat in it as well.

Andy didn’t realize he had fallen asleep until he felt his eyes slowly open to the sight of the setting sun. It was a pretty image that he often watched, but there was something different about the sunset this time. An unfamiliar smell brushed against his dark pink nose; it was the scent of another cat. He didn’t have a problem with this, of course, since he enjoyed the company of others felines for the most part. Sitting up and giving into languid stretch, he shook his fur out and then looked around for the second presence.
When he spotted a black and white cat with a pretty purple collar that had pearls on it, he leant back shyly, though tried at best to seem friendly. In a soft voice that was mildly deep and charming, he called out to her.
“Hi there. I don’t think I’ve seen you around before.” He smiled from his place on the windowsill, his silver tag glinting in the golden glow the sun gave.

Lumi had started to clean her chest as she watched the setting sun when she heard someone call out to her. She turned and saw a Blue and brown male and tilted her head to the side and wondered why he was talking to her. She stood and jumped down and then up onto his window. "No i'm sure you haven't. I've only been in the apartments for about 3 days." she said in a soft and gentle but playful voice. She hadn't met many nice cats in her day, but lots of interesting dogs and people. She looked at him, a manx. But he was nice looking and seemed friendly. "My name is Lumi. Whats yours?" she asked softly as she curled her tail about her feet.

It was nice having the company of one of his kind. Granny didn’t mind when other cats sat on her windowsill, explaining how relaxed Andy was when Lumi planted herself beside him. With a smile, he nodded to acknowledge that he’d understood what she was saying and then took his turn to speak. “This place isn’t so bad. It’s a little noisy sometimes with all the cars outside, but even that’s not too bad.” He straightened and absently flexed his claws into the wooden sill. “My real name’s Andrew, but ever since I was a kitten they called me Andy, so I guess it’s just Andy,” he explained with a small laugh. “It’s nice to meet you Lumi.” Music continued to play in the background, picking up the pace slightly in a waltz.

Lumi tilted her head and listened to him as he spoke. She looked inside and saw the old lady sitting in a chair knitting something. And then looked at Andy as he stretched. "I'm glad to have met someone since moving. Though before i didn't know very many cats, just a few dogs." She said as her tail swished at the tip a little bit. She watched him and wondered about him a little. "Do you ever want a tail?" She asked softly out of the blue. She listened to the music and wondered what it was. It made her want to sleep. Kisa didn't play music like this.

The question itself caught Andy off guard, his golden eyes widening. With a small smile, he looked back towards his stubby tail and flicked it. "It's actually kind of funny. Out of my siblings, I was the only one who didn't have a long tail. My Mom had a long tail, but my Dad didn't, so I guess I got his end of the deal. My sisters used to tease me and say that it fell off after I was born, but that's just silly." He shook his head and sighed. "I wouldn't know what having a long tail feels like. I'm happy with what I got." From the other side of the room, Granny looked up, noticing that Andy had made a friend. The old woman smiled warmly and returned to knitting.
"Oh," Andy began, remembering his manners, "that's Granny by the way. She's taken care of me since I was little. I was a present when Grandpa died. They told me that I would make her feel better, and I have." The Manx was proud of this because, in his opinion, he had helped the old woman recover after her loss with lots of love and ankle-rubs. "She likes to play music in the late afternoons sometimes. I'm used to it."

Lumi nodded her head. "Kisa got me after her boyfriend left her. She would talk and talk and talk about him all the time. I don't like him by the sounds of him." she yawned and then stretched, ending in a arch of her back. She looked at Granny again and listened to the music. "Why does it sound like sad but happy. All slow and stuff. Kisa plays loud music, if you haven't heard it yet." she said softly as she looked at him and then licked her chest a few times. "Do you play games or is there anything fun you like to do here?" she asked wondering what there was for a board cat to do here,

Andy flicked one of his blue-dipped ears towards the music, listening, before he thought of an answer to Lumi's question. "Granny says it's the music they played in the 'old days' or something. She also said that her and Grandpa used to dance to it all the time. I think it reminds her of good memories," he replied, nodding. "Loud music? I was wondering what all that ruckus was." He laughed a little. "Fun?" The blue and brown cat thought for a moment. "Sometimes I play with the string that Granny leaves lying around, and then there's my mouse toy, but other then that, I don't really do much." His expression turned sheepish.

Lumi gggled a little, a small sound that was almost like a purr. "I didn't do much before she got that dog but now i try to stay out alot and find something to do cause the dog asks too many questions all the time about anything and Everything." she said as she swished her tail and looked about, her sharp eyes catching sight of a fly going outside.
