The wide Dining Hall had been set with multiple glows, making the room brighter than normal. Steaming food sat on long buffet tables for the Weyr members and the guests, and large barrels of wine were set up with drudges waiting to pour for anyone who wanted it.
Other tables with benches provided places for the hungry people to sit and converse with each other, and to listen to the music that Harpers provided.
All in all it was a beautiful view, full of life and hope for the future, it could be said. But still, for now it only appeared as a good time for those hoping to toast to the new life of the Weyr and enjoy themselves for a rowdy evening.

(Are there dragons at the hatching feast?)
Martel made his way quickly through the kitchens, changing his bloodied apron for a clean white one and scrubbing the gore from his hands fastidiously before coming out into the Feasting Hall. The cooks had done well, creating a spread that would make any weyr proud. The last few dishes were being brought out in preparation for the riders new and old, and he made sure that each thing was in its proper place. They were ready to begin!

(It's really up to the person roleplaying. They could either have the dragonets join in the Hatching Feast festivities or have their dragonet get sleepy and go back to their own personal caves. The living caves are set aside for the number of eggs there are in the Clutch, so everyone has a room and then some, considering the Rebel's 8 or so eggs. By now I'm expecting that drudges have put names on the caves and I'm assuming they're all close together, but don't hold me to that.)

Jenebal was surprised to see that one of the cooks who had been setting up the tables of meat in the bowl was now helping to oversee the last details of the feast. He recognized the head cook, Millicia, conversing with the young man, and decided to set himself up with his gitar in a convenient corner of the room before any of the weyrlings arrived, depositing his fire lizards on a ledge above him with a few meatrolls swiped from a nearby tray. He sat, quietly tuning the gitar, waiting for the riders to enter.

One of the first to arrive at the feast was Arianna, Juobeth and the flits. They were all excited, as feasts were exciting. Arianna looked around for the food, as she was getting hungry. She smiled as she saw people now arriving too.
"Lets go make some friends, what do you think Juobeth?"
Sounds Fun. Lets go!

Jenebal noticed the brown haired, dark complected girl as she entered the room with her white dragonet. He hadn't gotten the names of all the weyrfolk yet, not even being there a week yet. It looked like there were more new riders and dragons close behind her.

Kai and S'tesch entered, having watched Arianna run by in the hall, and S'tesch still had an eyebrow raised. Kai's flits preceeded them into the room, chittering happily as Regalth and Zimith entered behind Kai and S'tesch, trailing their new lifepartners.
"Well, doesn't everything look just spiffy," S'tesch said, half-teasing, and Kai grinned.
"Oh, it all looks so wonderful! Ooh, food." She stared longingly at the buffet and S'tesch laughed.
"All right, all right, I get it. Come on, Weyrling. Let's get some food."

(Continued over from the Queen's Clutch thread.)
Necia caught up with Stry at the doorways- half-way there the taller woman's pace had been a little to fast for Necia to keep up with comfortably- and linked arms with the woman. "Honestly, must you show off how long your legs are, Stry?"
Perhaps we should retire to the cliffsides to wait for this Gathering to be over? Piroth suggested to Zalenth as people streamed out through the large doorway and some dragons betweened out.

As Necia finally arrived, Stryder grinned as the two linked arms. "Sorry that the pace was furious. I guess the excitement of the Hatching Feast made my pace quicken." Sweeping her razored bangs away from her eyes, the two-toned rider peered into the bustling Dining Room. "Well, were to start? Drinking, eatting?"
The two-toned rumbled softly as he kept his eyes on watch for guests who still streamed out the doors. Yes, that sounds wonderful and we best not stray too far for sooner or later we'll have to help Stry and Necia out of the party when they get too drunk to stand.

Jenebal went over the chords in his head as more people began to enter for the feast. Starting out on his gitar he launched into one of the traditional songs of the Dragonriders.
Oh, we must give honor to those dragons heed In thought and in favor, in word and in deed For our world will be lost or our world will be saved From those dangers that are by the dragons braved.
Weaver and farmer and miner and smith Tanner and herdsman, all lord holders with Our harpers attuned to the lessons we learn- Remember our duty to those who save Pern.
We'll nurture our dragons, the queens rule their bands; Their clutches will shell on the Hatching Ground sands. We'll Search out the riders who will love and endure With their dragonmates keeping our planet secure.
We rise from the Weyr on our dragonmates bold, Aloft in the sky, Bronze, Brown Blue, Green and Gold. Wheeling and turning, the hungry Threads burning A dragon must fly when there are Threads in the sky.
Oh, Lord of the Hold, you must keep your charge sure Behind metal doors, with your people secure. See well to the herdbeast, keep cellars well stored Lest Fall leave you hungry and Holdless and scored.
Oh, we must give honor to those dragons heed In thought and in favor, in word and in deed, For our world will be lost or our world will be saved From those dangers that are by the dragons braved.
As he strummed out the end of the tune, he noticed several more people entering, drawn by his song. The first two were a slight girl with reddened bandages that seemed to cover the majority of her exposed body. He wondered what she could have done in a weyr to recieve such injuries, but with the recent events, who knew. Supporting her was a sturdy little blue dragonet, obviously one of those just hatched. She noticed his fire lizards with interest and they her, Piron and Tama winging over to circle her before making an inspection of the other arrivals. Gar, the lazy devil he was, simply sat on the ledge and preened his wings, barely glancing after the other two.
Triana entered the large room accompanied only by Harmonath. Gianni had told her to go on ahead while the drudges and she finished with the dragonets, and the urge to fall into her old habits and hide amongst the shadows was nearly overpowering, but with Harmonath at her side, escape was impossible. Two fire lizards sailed over to her, the bronze one chirping happily as he passed. This gave her a bit of courage and she proceeded inside, finding a place at a table set with the most wonderful food she had ever seen. She sat, still unsure of how to behave, until Martell spotted her, bringing her a heavy plate full of roast wherry and steaming sweet tubers. "Come now, if you don't eat, you'll never heal from your boldness," he teased her happily, setting the food in front of her. "Setlese will be here, and she'd better not accuse me of neglecting her patient!"
( eek I will now go and post the site to find the CD of Anne-approved Pern songs where I got these lyrics. Like I could write this good.)

She noticed that there were people looking at the four like they had many heads. Arianna shrugged and sighed sitting in a chair, still breathing heavilly(sp?) from running.

(I agree with Unicorn- four who?)
"Oh, eating by far. We'll need something in our stomachs before we can drink to our body's content!"
I feel that it will be quite a few hours before we need to help those fool back to their rooms. For now, we can enjoy a little bit of the late afternoon ourselves.

"Yes! Mashed tubers, roasted wherry and fresh fruit, It's top of the line delicacies when it comes to Hatching Feasts." Slowly making her way as she weaved through the crowds as they conversed and partook in the premium wines, Stryder staked her claim in line and grinned as she glanced back at Necia.
Gripping a plate in each hand, Stryder slightly outstretched her left hand with a clean plate for the scarlet riders taking. She was momentarily distracted as she peered around the spacious Dining Room.
The room was lively; Live music provided by the Harpers streamed audibly, overpowering some conversations as it enticed many to dance and celebrate the new pairs of Weyrlings and dragonets who had begun their journey to become a full fledged dragonrider. Tantilizing auromas of the feast prepared by the countless drudges lured her appitite and her cravings for Klah. The night would no doubt be quite the festival.
Alone and away from the embarassing antics of our riders? Sounds perfect. Rumbling softly as he unfurled his wings slightly, Zalenth inclined his head towards the open passageway. Lead the way, Piroth.

As more people arrived at the feast, Jenebal merrily joined in with the other harpers present, adding his gitar and voice to their songs. Food was passed around generously and glasses were kept full by the drudges who moved efficiently throughout the room.
In a nearby part of the Weyr, Dahes caught the smell of the food floating from the festivities It couldn't hurt to grab a meatroll or three on his way through. After all, it had been a while since breakfast. He entered the room, slightly surprised that there weren't more people there, and walked over to a table laden with food. Filling a spare plate to heaping he was about to leave when Gianni caught him on her way in. She steered him over to the table where Triana was sitting and sat him down, filling a plate of her own and forcing more on the pale girl.
