can you hear them right now? it's like an awkward silence that you want to say something but you think someone else is going to say something so you don't say anything but they think you're going to say something so no one says anything and you just listen to crickets for hours on end.

haha, it was great. we got into a couple of mishaps, but it all turned out well in the end. honestly, the only problem i have with this trip at all is that i had to go back to school RIGHT after it.

um....preemptive answer: my favorite countries were ireland and italy.
preemptive answer 2: my favorite city was dublin.
preemptive answer 3: my most memorable experience was in london.

An excerpt from Le Toullouse and Various bits of Backstory

London, 2008
The four are sitting in the hotel, consuming their delicious dinner of microwave-cooked oven-bake pizza. just as they're finishing, three very large men enter the building.
now, keep in mind, the hotel consisted of at least three buildings. one contained the main desk, the breakfast area, and several rooms, while the other two only had rooms and one little kitchen each.
the men entered the room, one carrying a baseball bat, one carrying an enormous chain and the third wearing an expression that plainly said "i'm the boss, b***h."
we, sitting in the kitchen area (outside of our room), were cowering.
"have you paid your rent this month?" the obvious boss asked. we looked at each other (still cowering) and then looked back at the boss.
"we're with the hotel."
"ah, okay!' he motioned for his boys to follow and he started up the stairs to the next floor of rooms.
what happened next, none of us actually saw, but the sounds were audible to understand certain parts. i don't know all of what happened, but i know it involved filling the bathtub upstairs, knocking on several peoples' doors, and using a fire extinguisher excessively. throughout the course of this, people were coming downstairs and leaving. when the men got back downstairs, the boss looked at us (and the cronies just looked intimidating) and he asked
"are you french?" at that point, i really wanted to say
"non, non!" (with a very french accent), but something in my gut told me not to. "no," we replied. he shrugged and started to go, then asked if anyone was french staying there.
my sister, who had just earlier walked in on two people having sex, then watched them hurriedly leave, said she'd thought they were french and told the fierce men which direction they'd gone in. the big men thanked us and explained that "it was reported that a group of french people were smoking of the drugs here." after that, they left.
not even ten minutes later, a group of maybe six people walked through the kitchen towards the exit. we had thought the building was empty at this point.
"'allo," said each one as they passed. it's difficult to explain exactly how this next bit occurred, but pretty much, the four of us were standing in a line, at one end were the twins, then myself and my sister. as the group of six people were starting to leave, both of the twins (not seeing each other) turned to my sister and i and mouthed, very obviously "FRENCH!!!!!"

i love that story. it was scary at the time, but afterwards, it's one of the best from the entire trip.
i wrote a bunch of facebook notes on the trip, so i might upload them here (after editing them of course).

hm....that one's tougher. *rifles through notes* let me see....

okay, i didn't write all about it in a single note, so i'll just say.
the two worst cities were tied between london and paris. in london, the city was actually great; i loved it. unfortunately, we stayed in an apparently dodgy end. after meeting people from london later on in the trip and telling them where we stayed they made disgusted faces and asked "ILLFORD!?!? why would you stay there?" as it turned out, illford turned out to be what seemed like the indian ghetto (and when i say indian, i mean people from india). everything was disgusting and dirty (not because they're from india) and everyone was indian! it was just weird. it was like they'd been banished to illford or something.
paris was fun (ish) but it was also one of the worst places because first we got lost because we got on the wrong metro, then we realized that one of us had lost his passport and so every day we were in paris, we had to go to the american embassy......where they AREN'T american. it was an awful experience. plus our hotel had bugs and was twenty miles out of town. but we went to the eiffel tower and slept on the lawn of the louvre, so that made up for those things.
neither of them were actually that bad, but they were awful at the times.

the worst part of the whole trip, however, was coming home and there being no one at the airport. whenever a friend gets back from a trip, all of the friends that didn't go with them go to the airport to greet them. as i was getting off the plane, i was thinking "i'm so excited to see all of my friends and hug them and be happy." and i stepped out of the door and there was no one.
it turned out that one of them was grounded, one of them had fallen asleep, and one of them was out of town, but it still crushed my dreams. not only was i tired from being awake for 34 hours that day (math + time zones does not equal fun), but then i was depressed that i didn't see my friends. it was sad.

aww sad.
Pairs can be confusing if you know nothing about it.
