I am Jewish, but only because my mother is Jewish. Otherwise I am not really anything at all...or one could call me a Humanist. So I don't celebrate any of the Jewish holidays, though we used to when I was a child. But I never had a bat mitzvah or anything. Anyhow, Happy Rosh Hashanah Zora. And I see Yom Kippur is coming up too. Tell me, what do you usually do for these holidays?
Thats the road that i wish to go on when i reach 21 and become independent of my family... i have had a bat-mitzvah and i am having a confirmation (right after my 17th birthday)... i only had to do this because my dad died from stroke and my mom is jewish and all her ancestors were hacid jews....
Thanks^^ Shanah Tova <3 (Happy New Year) <3 Yes... and it happens to be on my grandmothers birthday >_<;;
I celebrate all the jewish holidays...
But as for Rosh Hashanah... its the Jewish Year... it goes on for 10 (including the night when it comes in and the last day [which is right before Yom Kippur])... during these 10 days... we have feasts and cant have any non-kosher items... but we MUST eat loads upon loads of sweets... so at the end of the 10 days... no one can look at sweets... and thank god Yom Kippur is right after <3... but we start off Rosh Hashanah with the two largest feats and loads of services... (i attend atleast 9 hours worth over the course of 2 days)... the traditional new year sweet is "apples and honey for rosh hashanah" --> but for people who are alergic to apples [like me --> i replaces apples with Hala]... and for those who are alergic to honey [like my friends --> have to replace it with pure sugar]... its a bit complicated... and hard to explain... hope that makes sense... >_<;;
As for Kom Kippur is a very holly holiday in the Jewish Religion. This was the day when Moses saved Jews from the evil Pharoes of Egypt [at this time Israel was very small and right next to Egypt]... On this very day that we now call Yom Kippur, Moses forgave the Pharoes of Egypt for holding his people as slaves... but due to the fact that it took one day to get back to the grounds of Israel, we must fast as respect to Moses and his good deads... and on this day god forgives us for all our bad deeds that we have done in the past year and we start off with a clean slate in the face of god after the holy shofar is blown [which is exactly what Moses blew when they got back to Israel].... how this one makes more sense >_<;; + you cant drink water or have anything in your mouth for 24 hours... those who are ill in any way cant participate...
