So my cousins dad tried to warn me before getting my septum pierced a year ago, that a septum ring can cause brain damage because the septum eventually connects to your white meat XD

I dont think thats true, and didnt then...

I also heard after i got my tongue pierced you're supposed to 'loose your sense of taste' XD

* Have you heard any of these myths?

* Are any true?

Told a friend I was getting my right conch dermal punched at a 6g and he goes "DON'T DO IT! you'll go deaf!" I laughed in his face, i couldn't help it. It was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard. :3

I've never heard of any of those myths. That must be why the are myths, because there is no truth behind them. Piercing your ears anywhere will not make you deaf, piercing your tongue will not paralyze you, make you lose your sense of taste, anything. Honestly, why do people believe this crap/make this crap up?

Even 10 minutes of honest research will tell you all those are false.

I know that for a fact there is a nerve in the ear that can paralyze your face on that side, IF it is cut.
I had MAJOR ear surgery where they had to basically lay my ear open, so they could remake a few things and remove some cyst. Anyway I had to sign a waiver that I would not sue them if they could not sew the nerve back and I was paralyzed.
And THIS may be where a few of the ear piercing myths came from. I don't believe that most types of ear piercings are going to hit that nerve, which I think is toward the very back of the ear.
This why though, I always recommend a professional piercer, because if you don't know what you are doing.......... hmmm, maybe.

That facial paralysis has happened before. It's called Bell's Palsy and can happen if a nerve is struck during a piercing procedure. It's why they advise against DIY facial piercings so much, especially the antieyebrow. so many nerves there.

HAHAHA! i would if i had the money for it tho. i have to settle a credit card debt. this means i'm looking at an extra $250 in bills for the next four months. which also means no dermal punches for the Lizard til March. you have no idea how pissed off i am about it.

An improper tongue piercing could cause loss of sense of taste, numbness, and restrict the movement of your tongue! So yea go pay money for this one people.

Septum piercing =/= brain damage
Tongue piercing =/= loss of taste
Ear piercing =/= paralysis

Just about any of these "danger stories" are fabricated by the conservative right to keep people from doing any of them.

Prozactly! , your biggest threat from any piercing is infection, second migration, rejection. and that has to do with the piercee........if you have dirty habits, or are simply an unclean person, you will get infected, you could end up with a BAD infection if you then dont go to a dr. and if you end up with MRSA, you may loose tissue.......thats where personal responsibility comes in....
