Malachite
Appearence: green with darker green bands, opaque
Availibility: easily found, inexpensive
Use only the tumbled variety as the dust from the raw form is toxic.
Magical Uses: grounding, healing, concentration, transformation, astral and shamanic journey
Specific uses: place a large piece near you while studying or doing energy work as it helps you concentrate and focus. Also used as a focal point for meditation.

Jasper
Appearence: patterned colors vary from red, yellow, brown, to blue, green and purple. there are several varieties: ocean jasper, red jasper, picture japer, banded jasper
Availibility: easily found, most types are inexpensive
Magical Uses: grounding, balencing, courage, protection, increase psychic ability, tranquility and wholeness, (emotional healing)
This is my favorite stone for grounding and centering. I wear mine as a ring.
Specific Uses: the red variety is protective and gives courage, carry a piece when you are facing a daunting task or situation.

Malachite
Is also supposed to guard against radiation , clear and activate the chakras, and "opens the heart to unconditional love."
Can be used for scrying. I'd try it if I hadn't lost my malachite and couldn't find any more.
Has also been called the midwife stone for its use in helping with cramps and childbirth.
(If I had brought my geology notes home with me I could have told you the chemical formula and diagnostic properties...not that anyone really wants to know those anyways.)
