Terms
Overview of Terms
This section is meant to give insight to many terms and phrases used around the site and in the guide that you may not be familiar with. This will be updated as needed. Terms NPCs-These are Non Player Characters, meaning characters that only the admins can control, which include shop owners, event NPCs, Quest NPCs, and ones that will be in the upcoming MMORPG. Sasha and Ian to name a few of Gaia's. They have [NPC] and their name is shaded red. MMORPG or MMO-Its a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. It'll be a place where you can fight monsters, go on quests, and team up with friends. Gaia's isn't out yet but it is coming. Admins-These are the administrators of Gaia and will never ask for your password, basically people who run the site. They can be distinguished by their yellow names. They help run events and handle the corporate aspect of the Gaian team. Some are also creators of the site. Oldbies-These are poeple who joined early on in Gaia's history, the term is constantly changing. Usually meant to be someone who joined in 2003 or 2004 and can sometimes be used for 2005. Devs-Developers, meet the people who are responsible for all the lovely features and fixing those nasty bugs that pop up everywhere. Main people responsible for the Gaian Events. Some are the creators of the site. Adorned with a Brown name. Mods-Someone hack your items? Someone harassing you? Someone put their thread in the wrong place? Well, these guys are here to help. Adorned with a Green name, by contacting these your troubles will be over. Gaians-Congratulations, you are one! These are people who go onto Gaia Online. So many k-For those who don't know the meaning of k, it means thousand. Whenever someone puts a sale up for so many k they mean so many thousand gold. Don't worry though, gold is easy to get if you know what to do wink GCD,WF,AMC,GD,and CB to name a few-These are Forum names, shortened so that you don't have to keep posting Writer's Forum or Gaia Community Discussion. Some are more obvious than others. MC-Monthly Collectibles, you'll find out more about these later but basically they're special items that come out each month. zETA-The people who go around calling themselves zETAs are zOMG's beta testers. No special name color, just regular users chosen to test the up and coming MMORPG. zOMG-This is the name of Gaia's up and coming MMORPG. GCDers, GDers, etc-These are what people call themselves when they frequent on of the many forums or subforums. You'll see this flung around a lot. Avatars-Not to be confused with Nickelodeon's awesome show Avatar, these are the little guys you get to dress up and flaunt around the site. Gaia Cash-This is the alternate currency of the site, gotten by getting a Gaia Cash Card or payig through paypal. Can be used for items in any store, but most recommended for the Cash Shop. Sigs-Signatures, these are the pretty pictures or sayings that go below practically every one of your posts. DC-Daily Chance...should be self explainatory. The Game-You will see many references here, and I'm here to tell you....you should find out about it. This is the most torturous game ever!!! memes-These are things like the famed "Rick Roll" and "Hotter than a Kiki Kitty for 2k". Inside jokes that pop up everywhere. The Game is one of them. Trolls-No, these aren't like the ones that tried to stop the Billy Goats Gruff, but they are just as bad. These people try to get a rise out of people by doing something against the rules, like posting the same thread over and over and over again, or posting pictures of porn. Mainly found in the GD these are people you want to stay away from. Cyber-One of the biggest against the rules violations. Its basically role playing having sex through words on the internet. People who ask to do this are cyberer's and when found out will be banned. n00bs-PLEASE DON"T THINK OF THEM AS NEWBIES!! These are people who are assholes. They beg, scam, post obnoxiously, and should be avoided. Newbies-These are people who are new to the site. Emotes-The smiley faces by the side of the post buttons. Can also be used by XD and other two to three letters and symbols. Chatspeak-While its not against the rules, you are more than likely going to be looked down upon if you use it. This is basically something like ttyl or lyke. They can be used in moderation, but if your whole post is full of it, then many will point it out. Grammar Nazis-Not one of the SS, these people are just really really uptight about spelling and punctuation. Can sometimes be really nasty, but for those who may have reasons to not type as well, you can push them in another direction so long as your post can be read and understood. 3nodding
Everything About Gold What is Gold? Gold is the currency that's used to get items for your avatar, house, car, and certain games around the site. Its pretty easy to get, even for newer members. A little bit of work and voila, you have enough for that expensive item you want. wink How to Get Gold There are plenty of ways to get gold, some easier than others. You get some every few page clicks, through Daily Chance, and a few more ways. Posting- This is the easiest way to get gold. While the gold count goes down the more you post, its easy. Just find a hangout, or threads that you want to participate in and post away. The easiest way to earn gold is going to the chatterbox and bumping, but some feel that actually interacting with other users is preferable. Find your interests through the forums and subforums. Games-While you may have to spend a certain amount of gold to play games (though most of the time you can get these from DC), for example getting tokens for slots or cards, and buying bait for fishing, these can really pay off. Cards and Slots-These are the two Casino Games. By buying (or getting from DC) tokens and playing these you can get tickets. Tickets on the marketplace are normally sold for 2gold per ticket. So, play these games, win big, and profit by selling them in the marketplace. However, there's another use for these tickets. There's one store (the Prize and Joy) that you can only get items from if you have tickets. If you feel that you would rather invest in that, then by all means. Fishing-By stacking up on grade F fish bait (available in Daily Chance), and a good rod, with a bit of practice you too can become a master of this game. Starter fish like guppys and pebbos can start at 3-11g. The tougher the fish the more it goes up. If you feel up to the quest, getting grade A fish bait can lead into some really rare fish like the Mutha Guppa and the Lionbacks which should be sold on the market for a few hundredk at least. Wordbump, Jigsaw, Pinball, and Electric Love Factory- These games have one thing in common, they give gold and sometimes items and don't cost anything to play. Self explanatory in themselves, they can be a nice alternative to the cruel and sometimes harsh forum lifestyle. Exchanging-By far the riskiest of ploys for someone to play off of, Exchanging, with patience and careful monitoring of the Gaian Marketplace can be a very successful endeavor. Basically, you buy an item from the cash store, an MC, or an older item from another person and hold onto it. By watching the trends and how the prices fluctuate, you could go from spending 10k to getting 100k (a 90k profit). This process can take weeks, months, or even years. Event items can be very helpful, but normally take longer to inflate. Mini/Art Shops-Good at art, pixeling, or breedable creatures? Then head on over to the minishop Forums. There you can build a thread showing what you're made of and selling your art for gaian gold. The better the quality the higher the price! Doesn't matter the style, if someone wants it they'll let you know. Take heed though because minishops take a LOT of work. Make sure you set up a concise system with no workarounds for getting your do, and make sure you give the customer what they asked for. In the end, this is one of the most useful and fun ways to gain gold. Promotions-Certain promotions like getting emails when announcements are made and sponsorships can greatly help out in getting gold and items. Click the Shops sign and go to the Need Gold banner for more of these options.
