Healing Magic
This is a ritual for healing any problem. This is usually best performed on a waning moon, when it is almost new moon.
You cannot perform this ritual on someone else without them being present. You can, however, guide the person who needs healing to do this ritual on their own. It is only effective if the person with the ailment performs it, so it is ideal to heal yourself.
Your primary ritual tool will be an element. Choose one from the list that is most appropriate for whatever area of the body you will be healing:
Abdomen: Fire Arms: Earth Blood: Air Bones: Earth Chest: Air Ears: Water Eyes: Water Feet: Earth Genitalia: Fire Hands: Earth Heart: Fire Legs: Earth Lungs: Air Mind: Fire Nose: Air Skin: Earth Stomach: Water Teeth: Earth Throat: Air Uterus: Water
You should prepare for the ritual with a ritual bath. Once you are ready, you can go to your magical place and get ready. Your working area should be equipped with whatever is need to invite the element of choice into the magic. You can use any method you want to have the element present, but if you need ideas, here is some help:
Earth: Stones, crystals, a dish of earth, or salt. Fire: Candles or a small bonfire (be careful and keep a bucket of water handy for emergencies!). Air: Incense Water: A dish of water will suffice, but if you can perform the ritual near a body of water like a river or lake that would be ideal. You only need to have the element pertinent to your ritual at hand. However, if you want to invite all the elements, that is fine too. Just keep the focus on the one vital healing element.
You should dress is all white if at all possible.
Now, let's begin the ritual! Cast your circle around your entire prepared ritual area. Sit in the center with your element before you. Inhale and exhale deeply and slowly to reach a meditative state. With your eyes closed, envision a pure white light surrounding you. Now that you have entered your magical state, take the element into your hands (if it is water, hold it in a container; if it is fire, hold the candle; if it is air, hold the incense stick, etc.). Feel the energy of the element flowing through you. Hold the element over the general area that needs healing and envision the energy flowing into that area. See it being healed. Continue to allow the elemental energy to flow into the area until a feeling of peace comes over you. It is done!
Close the circle and return the element to nature. (Note: don't even blow a candle out! Pinch it or extinguish it with a bit of water.) Have an after-ritual meal of cakes and wine (or bread and juice).
This ritual will begin doings its work immediately, but it will not cure anything isntantly. Allow it a good amount of time, a week for a minor ailment, a month for a major illness. If you are using any medications or supplements for your illness, it helps to have those present during the ritual. They will be charged with magical energy so that when you take them they will be doing twice the good!
This is but one way to heal.

This information is for educational purposes only! I do not suggest that you attempt to do any of the following conjuration's unless you are a well experienced Magician/Sorcerer. For the inexperienced it can lead to Demonic possession and or many other bad things! When a magician gets started he usually performs a couple of standard rituals like The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, and the Middle Pillar Ritual. These are the most important things he would do in order to protect himself from these Beings. Remember the attitude he gets from a spirit depends on the type of spirit he would so choose to conjure up! There are also several standard items which would be used during the conjuration; a Dagger, preferably exotic an Alter , at least 3'x3' top on it White Candles, at least 4 Incense, something pleasing a Robe Crystal Ball Black Mirror Triangle of the Art the Key of Solomon (book) the Grimoire of Armadel (book) the Magic Circle a Quiet Place to do these rituals
First you need to make sure you have a quiet place to these rituals, where you you will not be disturbed. Make sure that your alter is set up and all the magical tools are displayed on the alter. You need to light the four white candles and the incense. Make sure you have preselected the entity that so desire to summon up. Also make sure you have his sigil written on parchment. Take a few minutes to relax and meditate. Clear your mind of all unwanted thoughts and worries. Take your dagger and perform the invoking ritual of the pentagram. You can also call upon Archangel Michael to surround and protect your magical circle. If you call him and have faith he will be there protecting you. In this example we are going to conjure the Spirit "VAU-AEL". He is the spirit who will give thee all kinds of pleasant visions. He will serve you well in all that you wish to know. This spirit is taken from "the Grimoire of Armadel".
Take note that we will be conjuring this spirit on to the astral plane and not onto this physical plane. We will be able to see the spirit by gazing into the crystal ball or the black mirror which will be placed on the triangle of the art. Put on your robe and and light the incense and the candles. Sit in the chair that you place in the middle of the magic circle. Holding the Sigil of the spirit in your hands gaze into it and repeat the name of the spirit over and over for at least 10 min. Then gaze into the black mirror (or crystal ball) and concentrate while reciting the following...
I evoke and conjure thee, O spirit "VAU-AEL" by the Supreme Majesty - the true God who is known by the names of YOD HEH VAV HEH (yode-heh-vahv-heh), ADONAI (ah-doe-ney), EHEIEH (eh-hey-yay), and AGLA (ah-gah-lah) to appear before me in this mirror (or crystal ball) in a fair and comely shape.
Continue to gaze into the mirror until the image of the entity becomes clear to see. When you can see the entity then ask it "what is thy name?" If it gives the correct answer then ask it to sign its name in the space surrounding it. If the spirit turns out to be someone else then you can ask it to leave or ask what its purpose of coming before you. If it is the correct spirit then you must welcome it by saying...
In peace I welcome you, O spirit "VAU-AEL",and in the name of the Most High I command you to stay within this mirror until you are dismissed, to speak honestly and to answer all questions truthfully that I put before you.
Now you may ask the questions that you wish to put before him. Make sure that you are polite and not rude in any way, for you must treat these spiritual beings with the total respect. You may also command it do do certain tasks for you, but if you ask it to do things that might harm someone then you will at sometime suffer the penalties of KARMA. What goes around comes around. You don't want to have something bad come around and bite you in the a** now do you? Try to do only good tasks and things of a positive nature! Once you are done with the spirit, you must license him to depart. Take note that you must give this dismissal even if the entity does not show itself, for it could actually be there and you not know it and then you would have a spirit hanging around you which could the end of you! Here is the dismissal...
Go in peace and return to your sphere of origin, O Spirit "VAU-AEL" by the authority of the True God, I command thee to harm none as you depart, and to be ready to come quickly if called upon again.
*You will also want to do the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram and the Banishing Ritual of the Hexagram! This is a Must!
*This ritual can be used to conjure Celestial, Demonic, Elemental, or Angelic entities to do your bidding.
After you are finished you will want to write down everything that happened in your experience. You need to keep a journal of all these events and what took place. You will want to memorize these conjuration's and not have to read them off a card. You will also need to make sure that you pronounce all the sacred names of God correctly in your invocations, and once again do nothing to harm anyone in your magical rites. Even if you are conjuring a demon you can still command them to do good for you.
This is but one way?

The Chakras of the Hands: located in the palms of each hand, these direct and absorb Etheric energy. When you charge and object by laying your hands on it, you are directing energy through these Chakras. Magickans usually find that one palm is more suited to receiving energy, and one is better at directing. The Chakras of the Feet: these Chakras are useful to the Magickan who desires to Ground themselves while standing. When performing any such exercise on foot, these Chakras, located on the sole of each foot, send Etheric "roots" into the Earth, grounding and centering the Magickan. When seated, the Root Chakra does this work. The Hara: also known as The Center, or The Furnace, this Chakra, located near the navel, is the point at which energies from above and below connect in the body. Many Magickans find that they can store Etheric energy in their Hara for later use. Some Magickans can even direct energy from their Hara.

Candle rituals have been around for centuries. You may remember your first candle ritual when you were 2 years old on your birthday. The candles were lit and you were told to close your eyes, make a wish and blow out the candles. Candle spells are pretty much the same principle. You light the candles, maybe close your eyes while repeating a spell or that which you wish for and visualizing it coming true. It is a combination of the need or desire, and the ability to visualize the outcome. Candle burning spells and rituals are very easy to do and to have success with if they are done correctly and you truly believe. The different colors of candles each have their own symbolism. Here is a table of the colors and their meanings.
White: truth, purity, can be used in place of any other color. Female Astrological Sign: Cancer Red: love, health, sex, strength, male astrological signs: Scorpio, Aries Green: money, luck, fertility, female or male astrological Sign: Gemini Black: discord, evil, negativity, confusion, two-toned with appropriate corresponding color M/F Astrological Sign: Capricorn Brown: neutrality, uncertainty, hesitation, female astrological sign: Libra Pink: love, morality, honour, venus female astrological sign: Taurus Purple: power, business progress, ambition, male astrological sign: Sagittarius Orange: attraction, stimulation, mental action male astrological sign: Leo Greenish Yellow: jealousy, anger, discord Gray: neutrality, stalemate, negativity Light Blue: tranquility, patience, health, astrological sign: Pisces Dark Blue: depression, changeability, strological Sign: Aquarius
Candle spells can be very easy or complicated. It all depends on how much time you want to put into a ritual. It can be as simple as lighting a green candle and chanting... money money come to me. It can also be very long and complicated lasting several days with the repositioning of the candles each day.
The choice is always yours.
The first thing you want to do is get the appropriate color candles for your peticular desire. Then you need to annoint the candle with oil. Olive oil will do fine. You need to rub the candle with the oil from the middle outward to the ends. As you are doing this you need to be thinking of your desired goal. Then sit and meditate on your desire after lighting the candles, then read your spell or chant your appropriate mantra. You don't need some elaborate spell with a bunch of big words or words you don't even know how to pronounce. You can make your own spells or rituals. Think of your desire then make a simple little rhyme that tells about your desire in it. It doesn't even have to rhyme. This is all about will power, the power of positive thinking, and creative visualization. If you can do these things then you will send those vibrations out into the universe and eventualy they will materialize.
How to make your own candles
First of all you need the following things:
Paraffin wax, or scraps of left over candles. Crayons (for color), or candle dye. A strand of candle wick. Candle figure. Large bowl heat-proof. Small pot heat-proof. Wick tabs. Funnel. (Optional, but makes it easier) Wooden spoon. (To stir the wax with) Wax paper or foil. (To catch wax drippings) Herbs, stones, and oils. (optional)
Place wax inside small pot. Place small pot in large bowl. Fill pot with heated water until you reach half way up the outside of the can. You can do this also on a fire but it's more dangerous that way. After wax and color is completely melted, turn off the heat. Remember to stir your wax every so often. Cut off a length of wick and attach it at the bottom of your candle figure with a wick tab. Wrap the top of the wick around a pencil and support it on top of the container. Now is the time to add your herbs, stones, or oils if you desire. Be sure to place wax paper or foil under your work area before pouring your candles. Wax is not fun to scrape off of surfaces. Pour the wax into the candle figure. After you have poured as many candles as you want, let them sit for 4-6 hours before attempting to remove them from the candle figure. (If you are having trouble getting the candles out of the figures, I discovered they will release easier by putting them into the freezer for approx. half an hour. After removing the candles from the containers, wipe away the oily substance and let them sit for at least another 3-4 hours to dry. If you have left over wax in your coffee can, allow it to cool, then put a lid on it and store it away until next time.

Meditation FAQ Questions & Answers About Meditation
What Is Meditation? Meditation a name we give to a naturally-occurring rest state; it is resting in yourself while remaining awake and alert. It is different from sleep, in that the rest is much deeper and happens quickly, and you become more aware than usual.
Think of the deepest rest you have ever had in your life. You woke up and you could hardly move. That correlates to about an 8 percent reduction in oxygen consumption. Oxygen consumption is an indicator of how much work the body is doing. During sleep, oxygen consumption gradually declines over a period of four or five hours, to eventually reach this 8 percent reduction. During meditation, oxygen consumption decreases by 10 to 17 percent within the first 3 to 5 minutes. This is a spontaneous side effect, and is felt as a powerful sense of physical relaxation and ease.
Meditation is innate, and your body already knows how to do it. The human body has an instinctive ability to shift into profound rest states in order to heal, energize, integrate, tune itself up and assimilate learning. It is almost a sure bet that you have already experienced this many times in your life. Meditation can happen spontaneously, as when you are sitting on a hill looking at a sunrise or sunset, or when listening to music. Most people I work with remember meditating many times in the past - only they did not call it meditation. It was just a personal time, a special time they had with themselves or with nature.
Meditation is paradoxical in that you are resting more deeply than sleep, yet you are wide awake inside. It is similar in some ways to taking a nap but you don’t fall asleep, you fall awake. You can induce it by attentively doing anything simple and repetitive. We breathe all the time, and breathing is rhythmic, so you could pay attention to your breathing. There are so many ways in.
Meditation promotes a heightened awareness of the details of everyday life. Even a few minutes of meditation will help you move through the world with more relaxation and alertness.
Meditation is giving attention a chance to explore its full range, both inward and outward. It is a conversation between your inner and your outer life. This sounds simple, and it is. But there is no end to the delights of attention; there is always more to learn, more to explore, more to awaken to.
Where Did Meditation Come from? Meditation was probably discovered independently by hunters, singers, dancers, drummers, lovers and hermits, each in their own way. People tend to encounter meditative states whenever they throw themselves with total intensity into life’s callings. The knowledge of how to intentionally cultivate meditative states is a kind of craft knowledge -- those handy tips people pass on to each other. Meditation does not come from India or Tibet -- those are just places the knowledge rested for awhile, and the hermits in those wrote it all down. Bless them.
Human beings have been using tools for hundreds of thousands of years, according to the archaeologists. I consider it very likely they have been using sophisticated mental tools for tens of thousands of years.
Hunters, for example, sometimes have to make themselves still for hours. They have to merge with the forest and not even think, lest they scare the prey away. Then they leap into action with total precision at a moment’s notice -- that’s Zen in a nutshell. Hunters teach each other these skills, through verbal instruction and example.
Singers and dancers often enter meditative states through their passionate expression. Singers work with breath awareness in ways far more sophisticated than yoga. Lovers are often in a state of heightened appreciation which borders closely on meditation. Hermits are the ones we have heard the most from, because they kept the best notes. That is why we always think of yogis and bearded guys in the Himalayas when we think of meditation. But their way is only one small subset of the many different gateways into meditation.
Meditation comes from the human heart and is a way of warming your hands and your life at the fire always pulsing there in your core. It comes from the depths of your instinctive wisdom. Human beings are always wondering and inquiring, and meditation is a natural emergence of that adventure.
On the other hand, cats obviously meditate. That’s what it looks like to me, anyway. So it may be a genetically encoded, instinctive talent in mammals. Cats don’t need to be taught to meditate, but humans need a little coaching.
Why Do People Meditate? People meditate for innumerable reasons and all of them are valid. To name a few, people meditate because:
• out of curiosity, wonder, and a desire to explore.
• they are worried, tired, bored, lonely, horny, or tense.
• they are happy, grateful, in love, streaming with delight and glad to be alive.
• they are grieving, sad, despairing, resigned, frustrated.
• they have lost someone or some part of themselves or lost the joy of life.
• they feel out of place in the manmade world and feel the need to live in the world of Nature.
• as an attempt to escape from life and from Nature.
• they are sick in body or soul and need healing.
• they feel perfectly at home and want to savor the feeling.
• in order to touch the essence of life and bring its magic into everyday living.
• they have not touched the essence of life but they suspect it is there for the touching.
• it is an urge in they have long felt, and finally gave it to it.
• as a response to the calling of their own souls.
• they are so excited by life they figure they could use a little calmness.
• in order to keep their intuition and senses sharp.
Each of these impulses has generated a variety of techniques and traditions. Honor them in yourself, as they come and go. And whenever you read or hear something about meditation, you can wonder, which emotion does this emerge from?
It is always good to take a moment and feel what it is you want out of meditation Ð what impulses are moving you? That is part of the preparation for meditation. The list above is by no means comprehensive -- make your own list. Your list can be a description of how you want to feel, or the practical outcome you want, or a mingling of the two.
Meditation is there to help you fulfill your everyday needs. Things like getting a little rest and relaxation. Clearing your mind a little. Getting some perspective on your life, like you would if you were on a vacation. Having more energy. Being able to go into action with relaxation, even if it is a test, an interview, or something crucial.
The key is to always know what you want, or at least be open to what you want out of meditation. That is the passion that will lead you to invest the time in meditation. Then, the moment you enter meditation, let go completely of your expectations.
Why Should I Meditate? During meditation we can rest more deeply than in sleep, yet at the same time, the mind is free to think deeply about what is going on in our lives and to come up with a new perspective. Often what we have perceived as a threat is downgraded to just a challenge, or "something interesting on the horizon." The nerves can stop their emergency functioning. Or it could be the opposite: we might be missing the real urgency of the situation because we were flooded with distracting details. In either case, meditation promotes the ability to be relaxed and focussed while engaged in action, and to get tense only when it is absolutely necessary.
Even a few minutes of meditation can help you shift gears at the end of the day, from work mode to being with the family mode or play mode. In the morning, a few minutes of meditation can help you feel more alert and relaxed all day.
Since most human illnesses are caused by or worsened by stress, meditation is really good for your health. A lot of problems in relationships are caused by one or both partners being under stress. Meditation really helps relationships by giving you a way to let off stress without dumping on your partner. Also, because in meditation you give yourself a lot of attention, you’ll find you have more attention to give to other people. If you aren’t as needy, and you can give as well as receive, all your relationships go a bit easier. Meditation is a kind of social lubricant.
The meditations in this book encourage greater adaptability, resilience, realistic appraisal of stress, emotional expressiveness, and appreciation of life’s simple pleasures. What it asks of you is steady inquiry into your own nature, which is something you are doing anyway — it’s called having desires.
I Don’t Have Time For This, What Do I Do? You can meditate for one minute here, three minutes there. Properly done, meditation always gives you more time than it takes.
As you learn to love meditation, you will create more time for it.
The busier your life is, the more you crave a vacation. That “wanting a vacation” feeling is one of the main reasons people meditate, and is a gateway right on in. People who work hard want rest and renewal, and that is mainly what meditation is. Just don’t make a big deal out of it, an impossible-to-achieve ideal.
Meditation can have the same feeling of relaxation and ease as going to a bar after work. The relaxation of meditation is what you would seek in a bar if you drink, in getting a massage if you could afford one each day, if you could somehow be transported to Hawaii instantly after work. The most important thing is to approach meditation in the same natural way you would having a glass of wine, taking a nap, listening to music, or going for a walk. Be completely unpretentious with yourself.
Can I Meditate Just Out of Curiosity? Yes. As a matter of fact, the instinct to inquire is a major power source for meditation. Meditation is not just one sappy mood of reverence or quiet. It is a platform from which to witness all your moods. You can come as you are and meditate for any reason under the Sun. You can meditate just to check it out, you can meditate in order to have better sex, or because you are stressed-out, or because you want some enlightenment. You do not have to be “sincere” or “serious” to meditate. You could be making fun of the whole thing and still get a lot out of it.
Will I Need to Make Lifestyle Changes? The meditation exercises in this book will probably not work well if you are using illegal drugs; marijuana and psychedelics leave a kind of fog in the neurons that makes meditation seem boring, and these effects last for weeks.
Other than that, don’t change anything unless you want to. Your lifestyle got you this far, why change it now? You can smoke cigarettes, eat meat, drink coffee, have wine with dinner.
With regard to food, eat with gusto whatever makes you feel strong and energetic. In the long run, this will probably keep you healthier than following any particular set of rules.
If you are meditating as part of a health regimen or a “healthy heart” program, of course follow whatever suggestions the doctors have made. And if you are taking prescription medications, then keep taking them. Some people can reduce their blood pressure medication, for example, if they meditate consistently, but that is between them and their doctor.
Cherish your “vices” whatever they are; meditation will work its magic on your relationship with them. A lot of what are called vices are ways of letting off steam, releasing tension. When you are less tense, then you may find you don’t need to do unhealthy things to unwind.
Do I Have to Sit Cross-Legged? Sitting cross-legged works well for some people and it looks really cool. But this pose does nothing for meditation that can’t be done in other ways. The main virtue of the cross-legged posture is that it’s handy if you have no furniture, are homeless, or are outdoors.
Recently two yoga teachers came for meditation sessions in the same week. They were both lean young women, and they sat cross-legged on the floor during the session. They shifted around and had to adjust their feet every few minutes. I didn’t say anything at the time, because I just wanted to observe. But later I asked each of them and they admitted that they always sit in the cross-legged pose and their legs always hurt after awhile when they do so.
On the other hand, or foot, I enjoy the cross-legged pose. It just feels nifty sometimes. I’ve used it about half the time in my thirty years of meditation.
If you can sit with total comfort that way for half an hour without your feet going to sleep or getting uncomfortable — even a little — then go ahead. Remember, though, hurting your knees has nothing to do with getting enlightened.
Most of the meditations in this book are to be done sitting in a chair or sofa in your favorite place, standing, walking, or lying down.
Don’t I Have To Have A Guru? No. Although, if you ask a Guru, they will probably say yes.
Do I Have To Sit Still? What’s stillness got to do with it? Move all you want in meditation. You only sit still in meditation in order to better follow the movement of life. It is a natural repose, not something forced.
When you are deeply absorbed in something — a conversation, a book, or listening to a piece of music — you will sometimes be very still. You become poised in order to better follow the flow of the conversation, the arc of the plot in the story, or the movement of the music. That is the way to be in meditation as well. So stillness of posture happens spontaneously, it is not something you focus on or make a rule out of.
Life is movement, an infinite dance on every level -- atoms move and vibrate, cells undulate, blood pulses, breath flows, electrochemical impulses charge through your nerve pathways. As you are sitting reading this book, your postural muscles are making lots of tiny little corrections to keep you upright, and the muscles in the diaphragm and ribs are moving with the gentle rhythm of respiration. Each of these little movements is part of the meditation experience.
When Should I Meditate? You can meditate when you want to, or when you decide you should, or whenever you can sneak it in. It is up to you. The basic principle is to meditate before periods of activity, so that your ability to work and play and socialize can be enhanced by the relaxed alertness you are learning to function in. The standard approach is to meditate soon after arising in the morning, and then again before the evening meal. This works really well for a lot of people, and it creates a beautiful feeling of rhythm to a day.
Other options are to meditate once a day in the afternoon, or to have several mini-meditations throughout the day. If you do meditate before sleep, keep it short and select meditations that are soothing.

Dream Recall
Everyone dreams at night. Those who claim they don't, simply do not remember their dreams. Having excellent dream recall is absolutely necessary to have frequent lucid dreams. Lucid dreams are usually induced by cues. If you don't remember your dreams, you won't be able to study them to determine your personal cues or dream signs--reoccurring signs that are typical of your dreams. Of course, if you don't remember your dreams, you can have a lucid dream during the night and completely forget it in the morning! You may have already experienced a lucid dream, and just don't know it because you have forgotten it during the course of the night.
The first step to developing your dream recall is getting plenty of sleep. When you're well rested, it will be easier for you to focus on your intent of recalling dreams when falling asleep. Also, if you're able to get plenty of sleep during the night, you won't mind taking some time during the night to record your dreams and that's exactly what you'll have to do. Finally, the REM periods of sleep get longer during the latter hours of sleep; thus sleeping for longer periods will give you more of an opportunity to awaken from your dreams and remember them.
You won't be able to adequately develop your dream recall if you just plan on going through everything you remember dreaming upon waking up in the morning. During the course of the night, you have many different dreams at least one per REM period of sleep. The brain seems to erase the previous dream during the intermediate stages between REM periods. Thus, to remember your dreams, you will need to wake up during the REM period. A couple ways of accomplishing this will be discussed here. The easiest is simply to set your alarm clock for 90 minute periods. Aiming for the latter REM periods (about 4.5, 6, or 7.5 hours into sleep) is best because those are the longest dream periods.
However, to be able to eventually control your dreams, you're going to have to focus your intent on doing so. Therefore a better method of recalling your dreams is focusing your intent on remembering them before falling asleep, as this will prepare you for controlling your dreams later on. As silly as this may sound, you just need to talk yourself into remembering your dreams; I've done this and I can say with certainty that it works. Tell yourself you're going to remember your dreams, just before you lay down. Really focus your intent on that; imagine yourself waking up, turning on a lamp (or flashlight), and recording your dreams. As you fall asleep, remind yourself of your intent: "I will awake from my dreams, and completely remember them." If you find your mind wondering as you drift off, again remember your intent. You want the last thought before drifting off to sleep to be of your intent to awaken from your dreams.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, you need to record your dreams upon awakening from them. No matter how clear they seem upon waking, you'll have almost completely forgotten them when you again awake in the morning. Keep a dream journal beside the bed (any writing pad will do.) Upon waking, don't allow your mind to drift; immediately attempt to focus on what you had just been dreaming, and write it down in your dream journal. At 4:00am you're probably not going to be in the mood to write a lengthy story about your dream; instead, write down key points, such as what you were doing, where you were, and who was around you. Also, note anything strange anything that wouldn't normally happen in the waking world. If you find these strange events reoccur in your dreams, then they are your personal dream signs you will be able to use them to induce lucid dreams, eventually. Before attempting to induce lucid dreams, you should be able to recall at least one dream a night

Lucid Dreaming FAQ
This FAQ is a brief introduction to lucid dreaming--what it is, what it takes to do it, and what can be done with it. Please note that this is not the full extent of knowledge available in this area. References to more comprehensive sources are given below. If you are serious about learning to have lucid dreams yourself, then consider taking advantage of the excellent resources.
WHAT IS LUCID DREAMING?
Lucid dreaming is dreaming while knowing that you are dreaming. The term was coined by Frederik van Eeden (see Green, 196 cool , using the word "lucid" in the sense of mental clarity. Lucidity usually begins in the midst of a dream, when the dreamer realizes that the experience is not occurring in physical reality, but is a dream. Often this realization is triggered by the dreamer noticing some impossible or unlikely occurrence in the dream, such as meeting a person who is dead, or flying with or without wings. Sometimes people become lucid without noticing any particular clue in the dream; they just suddenly realize they are in a dream. A minority of lucid dreams (according to the research of LaBerge and colleagues, about 10 percent) are the result of returning to REM sleep directly from an awakening with unbroken reflective consciousness.
The basic definition of lucid dreaming requires nothing more than becoming aware that you are dreaming. However, the quality of lucidity varies greatly. When lucidity is at a high level, you are aware that everything experienced in the dream is occurring in your mind, that there is no real danger, and that you are asleep in bed and will awaken shortly. With low-level lucidity you may be aware to a certain extent that you are dreaming, perhaps enough to fly, or alter what you are doing, but not enough to realize that the people are dream representations, or that you can suffer no physical damage, or that you are actually in bed.
Lucidity and control in dreams are not the same thing. It is possible to be lucid and have little control over dream content, and conversely, to have a great deal of control without being explicitly aware that you are dreaming. Nonetheless, becoming lucid in a dream is likely to increase your deliberate influence over the course of events. Once you know you are dreaming, you are likely to choose some activity that is only possible in dreams. You always have the choice of how much control you want to exert, and what kind. For example, you could continue with whatever you were doing when you became lucid, with the added knowledge that you are dreaming. Or you could try to change everything--the dream scene, yourself, other dream characters, etc. It is not always possible to perform "magic" in dreams, like changing one object into another or transforming scenes. A dreamer's ability to succeed at this seems to depend a lot on the dreamer's confidence. If you believe that you cannot do something in a dream, you will probably not be able to.
On the other hand, the easiest (and perhaps wisest) kind of control to exert in a dream is control over your own behavior. This comes in especially handy in nightmares. If you become lucid in a bad dream, you could try to do magic to escape the situation, but many times this does not work very well. It is generally much more effective, and better for you psychologically, to recognize that, because you are dreaming, nothing can harm you. Your fear is real, but the danger is not. Changing attitude in this way usually defuses the dream situation and transforms it into something positive.
IN WHAT STAGE OF SLEEP DO LUCID DREAMS OCCUR?
Lucid dreams usually happen during REM sleep. Sleep is not a uniform state, but is characterized by a series of stages (1, 2, 3, and 4, and REM) distinguished by certain physiological markers. REM sleep, stands for "Rapid Eye Movement" sleep, and is pronounced to rhyme with "them", not "R. E. M." Stages 1 through 4 are often lumped together under the label non-REM (NREM) sleep. Stages 3 and 4 are both referred to as "delta" sleep, for the large, low frequency brain waves evident in these stages. Although this is certainly a gross oversimplification of the complexity of the physiological and mental events in sleep, research has demonstrated that most vivid dreaming occurs in REM sleep. It is characterized by an active brain, with low amplitude mixed frequency brain waves, suppression of skeletal muscle tone, bursts of rapid eye movements, and occasional tiny muscular twitches.
The sleep stages cycle throughout a night. The first REM period normally happens after a period of delta sleep, approximately 90 minutes after sleep onset, and lasts from about 5 to 20 minutes. REM periods occur roughly every 90 minutes throughout the night, with later REM periods occurring at shorter intervals and often being longer, sometimes up to an hour in length. Much more REM sleep occurs in the second half of the night than in the first.
How do we know that lucid dreaming happens in REM sleep? Dr. Stephen LaBerge and his colleagues at Stanford University proved this with deliberate eye movement signals given in by lucid dreamers during REM sleep. Most of the muscles of the body are paralyzed in REM sleep to prevent us from acting out our dreams. However, because the eyes are not paralyzed, if you deliberately move your "dream" eyes in a dream, your physical eyes move also. LaBerge's subjects slept in the laboratory, while the standard measures of sleep physiology (brainwaves, muscle tone and eye movements) were recorded. As soon as they became lucid in a dream, they moved their eyes in large sweeping motions left-right-left-right, as far as possible. This left an unmistakable marker on the physiological record of the eye movements. Analysis of the records showed that in every case, the eye movements marking the times when the subjects realized they were dreaming occurred in the middle of unambiguous REM sleep. LaBerge has done several experiments on lucid dreaming using the eyemovement signaling method, demonstrating interesting connections between dreamed actions and physiological responses. Some are described in his books (see below).
WHAT PURPOSES CAN LUCID DREAMING SERVE?
Upon hearing about lucid dreaming for the first time, people often ask, "Why should I want to have lucid dreams? What are they good for?" If you consider that in dreams, if you know you are dreaming, you are in principle free to do anything, restricted only by your ability to imagine and conceive, not by laws of physics or society, then the answer to these questions is either extremely simple (Anything!) or extraordinarily complex (Everything!). It is easier to provide a sample of what some people have done with lucid dreaming than to give a definitive answer of its potential uses.
The first thing that attracts people to lucid dreaming is often the potential for adventure and fantasy fulfillment. Flying is a favorite lucid dream delight, as is sex. Many people have said that their first lucid dream was the most wonderful experience of their lives. A large part of the extraordinary pleasure of lucid dreaming comes from the exhilarating feeling of utter freedom that accompanies the realization that you are in a dream, where there will be no social or physical consequences of your actions.
Unfortunately for many people, instead of providing an outlet for unlimited fantasy and delight, dreams can be dreaded episodes of limitless terror. As is discussed in the books Lucid Dreaming (LaBerge, 1985) and Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming (EWLD) (LaBerge & Rheingold, 1990), lucid dreaming may well be the basis of the most effective therapy for nightmares. If you know you are dreaming, it is a simple logical step to realizing that nothing in your current experience, however unpleasant, can cause you physical harm. There is no need to run from or fight with dream monsters. In fact, it is often pointless to try because you have conceived the horror in your mind, and it can pursue you wherever you dream yourself to be. The only way to really "escape" is to end your fear; as long as you fear your dream, it is likely to return. (For a discussion of reasons for recurrent nightmares, see p. 245 of EWLD.) The fear you feel in a nightmare is completely real; it is the danger that is not.
Unreasonable fear can be defused by facing up to the source, or going through with the frightening activity, so that you observe that no harm comes to you. In a nightmare, this act of courage can take any form that involves facing the "threat" rather than avoiding it. For example, one young man dreamt of being pursued by a lion. When he had no place left to run, he realized he was dreaming and called to the lion to come on and get him. The challenge turned into a playful wrestling match, and the lion became a sexy woman (NightLight 1.4, 1989, p. 13). Monsters often transform into benign creatures, friends, or empty shells (see Saint-Denys, 1867/1982) when courageously confronted in lucid dreams. This is an extremely empowering experience. It teaches you in a very visceral manner that you can conquer fear and become stronger thereby.
Lucid dreaming can also help people achieve goals in their waking lives. EWLD contains many examples of ways that individuals have used lucid dreams to prepare for some aspect of their waking activities. Some of these applications include: rehearsal (trying out new behaviors, or practicing them, and honing athletic skills), creative problem solving, artistic inspiration, overcoming sexual and social problems, coming to terms with the loss of loved ones, and physical healing. If the possibility of accelerated physical healing, suggested by anecdotes from lucid dreamers, is born out by research, it would become a tremendously important reason for developing lucid dreaming abilities.
IS LUCID DREAMING LEARNABLE?
The ability to have lucid dreams may be within the reach of most human beings. Research on individual differences has not turned up any factors of personality or cognitive ability that substantially predict lucid dreaming frequency. So far, the only strong predictor of frequent lucid dreaming is high dream recall. This is good news for would-be lucid dreamers, because it is fairly easy to increase dream recall (more below).
One question frequently asked about learning lucid dreaming is: How long does it take? The answer, or course, is that it varies depending on the individual. How well does the person recall dreams? How much time is available for practicing mental exercises? Does the person use a lucid dream induction device? Does the person practice diligently? Is the person's critical thinking well developed? And so on. Case histories may provide a more tangible picture of the process of learning lucid dreaming. Dr. LaBerge increased his frequency of lucid dreaming from about one per month to up to four a night (at which point he could have lucid dreams on demand) over the course of three years. He was studying lucid dreaming for his doctoral dissertation and therefore needed to learn to have them on demand as quickly as possible. On the other hand, he had to invent techniques for improving lucid dreaming skills. Thus, people starting now, although they may not be as strongly motivated as LaBerge, have the advantage of well-developed techniques, complete training programs, and electronic biofeedback aids that have been created in the 16 years since LaBerge began his studies.
Lynne Levitan, staff writer for NightLight, describes her experiences with learning lucid dreaming as follows: "I first heard of lucid dreaming in April of 1982, when I took a course from Dr. LaBerge at Stanford University. I had had the experience many years before and was very interested to learn to do it again, as well as to get involved in the research. First I had to develop my dream recall, because at the time I only remembered two or three dreams per week. In a couple of months I was recalling 3 to 4 or more per night, and in July (about three months after starting) I had my first lucid dream since adolescence. I worked at it on and off for the next four years (not sleeping much as a student) and reached the level of 3 to 4 lucid dreams per week. Along the way, I tested several prototypes of the DreamLight lucid dream induction device and it clearly helped me become more proficient at realizing when I was dreaming. In the first two years we were developing the DreamLight, I had lucid dreams on half of the nights I used one of these devices, compared to once a week or less without. In considering how long it took me to get really good at lucid dreaming, note that I did not have the benefit of the thoroughly studied and explained techniques now available either, because the research had not yet been done nor the material written. Therefore, people now should be able to accomplish the same learning in far less time, of course, given sufficient motivation."
DEVELOPING DREAM RECALL
As mentioned above, the most important prerequisite for learning lucid dreaming is excellent dream recall. There are probably two reasons for this. One is that if you do not remember your dreams, you are unable to study them to discover what about them could help you realize that you are not awake. Another is that you might have lucid dreams without knowing it, because you do not remember them.
The procedure for improving your dream recall is fully detailed in EWLD, and A Course in Lucid Dreaming (see below) as well as many other books on dreams. The core exercise is keeping a dream journal, and writing down everything you recall about your dreams, no matter how fragmentary. You must not wait until morning to take notes on dreams recalled in the middle of the night because, no matter how clear they are at the time, they are apt to disappear entirely from your memory by the time you get up in the morning. You also should write them down first thing in the morning, before you even think about anything else. In A Course in Lucid Dreaming we advise that people build their dream recall to at least one per night before proceeding onto lucid dream induction techniques.
Another dream-recall related exercise introduced in EWLD, and further developed in A Course in Lucid Dreaming is identifying "dreamsigns." This is a word coined by LaBerge referring to elements of dreams that indicate that you are dreaming. (Examples: miraculous flight, purple cats, malfunctioning devices, and meeting deceased people.) By studying your dreams you can become familiar with your own personal dreamsigns and set your mind to recognize them and become lucid in future dreams. The course also provides exercises for practicing noticing dreamsigns while you are awake, so that the skill carries over into your dreams. This exercise also relates to lucid dream induction devices, which give sensory cues--special, artificially-produced dreamsigns--while you are dreaming. To succeed at recognizing these cues, you need to practice looking for them and recognizing them while you are awake (more below).
LUCID DREAM INDUCTION TECHNIQUES
THE REALITY TESTING TECHNIQUE
This is a good technique for beginners. Assign yourself several times a day to perform the following exercise. Also do it anytime you think of it, especially when something odd occurs, or when you are reminded of dreams. It helps to choose specific occasions like: when I see my face in the mirror, when I look at my watch, when I arrive at work or home, when I pick up my lucid dream induction device or the NightLight. The more frequently and thoroughly you practice this technique, the better it will work.
1.Carry some text with you or wear a digital watch throughout the day. To do a reality test, read the words or the numbers on the watch. Then, look away and look back, observing the letters or numbers to see if they change. Try to make them change while watching them. If they do change, or are not normal, or do not make sense, then you are most probably dreaming. Enjoy! If the characters are normal, stable, and sensible, then you probably aren't dreaming. Go on to step 2. 2.If you are sure you are awake, then say to yourself, "I may not be dreaming now, but if I were, what would it be like?" Visualize as vividly as possible that you are dreaming. Intently imagine that what you are seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling is all a dream. Imagine instabilities in your environment, words changing, scenes transforming, perhaps you floating off the ground. Create in yourself the feeling that you are in a dream. Holding that feeling, go on to step 3. 3.Pick something you would like to do in your next lucid dream, perhaps flying, talking to particular dream characters, or just exploring the dream world. Continue to imagine that you are dreaming now, and that you try out the thing you plan to do in your next lucid dream.
MNEMONIC INDUCTION OF LUCID DREAMS (MILD) TECHNIQUE
Developed by LaBerge and used by him to induce lucid dreams at will during his Ph.D. study, MILD is practiced during the night. (Modified from EWLD, p. 7
1.SETUP DREAM RECALL Set your mind to awaken from dreams and recall them. When you awaken from a dream, recall it as completely as you can.
2.FOCUS YOUR INTENT While returning to sleep, concentrate single-mindedly on your intention to remember to recognize that you're dreaming. Tell yourself: "Next time I'm dreaming, I want to remember I'm dreaming." Try to feel that you really mean it. Focus your thoughts on this idea alone. If you find yourself thinking about anything else, let it go and bring your mind back to your intention to remember.
3.SEE YOURSELF BECOMING LUCID At the same time, imagine that you are back in the dream you just woke from (or another one you have had recently if you didn't remember a dream on awakening), but this time you recognize that it is a dream. Look for a dreamsign--something in the dream that demonstrates plainly that it is a dream (see NightLight 1.3 & 1.4 for more about dreamsigns). When you see it say to yourself: "I'm dreaming!" and continue your fantasy. Imagine yourself carrying out your plans for your next lucid dream. For example, if you want to fly in your lucid dream, imagine yourself flying when you come to the point in your fantasy that you "realize" you are dreaming.
4.REPEAT UNTIL YOUR INTENTION IS SET Repeat steps 2 and 3 until your intention is set; then let yourself fall asleep. If, while falling asleep, you find yourself thinking of anything else, repeat the procedure so that the last thing in your mind before falling asleep is your intention to remember to recognize the next time you are dreaming.
LUCID DREAM INDUCTION DEVICES
The Lucidity Institute offers several electronic devices that help people achieve lucid dreams. They were developed through laboratory research at Stanford University by LaBerge, Levitan, and others. The basic principle behind all of these devices is as follows: The primary task confronting someone who wishes to have a lucid dream is to remember that intention while in a dream. We often remember to do things while awake through reminders: notes, strings around fingers, alarms, and so on. However, such reminders are of little use in dreams, although there are other kinds of reminders that are in fact helpful. The observation that some sensory events are occasionally incorporated into ongoing dreams (like your clock radio or the neighbor's saw appearing disguised in your dream rather than awakening you) led to the idea of using a particular sensory stimulus as a cue to a dreamer to become lucid. For example, a tape recording of a voice saying "You're dreaming" played while a person is in REM sleep will sometimes come through into the dream and remind the person to become lucid. In our research we settled on using flashing lights as a lucidity cue, because they had less tendency to awaken people than sound and were easy to apply. The DreamLight and NovaDreamer devices also have a sound cue option, which is useful for people who sleep more deeply.
The DreamLight and NovaDreamer both work by giving users flashing light cues when they are dreaming. Users work with their devices to find an intensity and length of cue that enters their dreams without awakening them. In addition, device users should practice mental exercises while awake for the best preparation for recognizing the light cues when they appear in dreams. The devices are based around a soft, comfortable sleep mask, which contains the flashing lights. The DreamLight and NovaDreamer detect the rapid eye movements of REM sleep, when the wearer is likely to be dreaming, and give cues when the level of eye movement activity is high enough.
These lucid dream induction devices offer a second method of lucid dream stimulation. This method arose out of the discovery that while sleeping with the DreamLight, people frequently dreamed that they awakened wearing the device, and pressed the button on the front of the mask to start the "delay," a feature that disables cues while you are drifting off to sleep. Ordinarily, the button would cause a beep to tell you that you had successfully pressed it. However, people were reporting that the button was not working in the middle of the night. Actually, they were dreaming that they were awakening and pressing the button, and the button did not work because it was a dream version of the DreamLight. Dream versions of devices are notorious for not working normally. Once people were advised that failure of the button in the middle of the night was a sign that they were probably dreaming, they were able to use this "dreamsign" reliably to become lucid during "false awakenings" with the DreamLight. This "reality test" button turned out to be so useful that it became an important part of all the lucid dream induction devices developed by the Lucidity Institute. Research suggests that about half of the lucid dreams stimulated by the devices result from using the button for reality tests.
HOW WELL DO LUCID DREAM INDUCTION DEVICES WORK?
The Lucidity Institute's lucid dream induction devices are designed to help people achieve lucidity by giving them cues while they are dreaming and a reliable means of testing their state of consciousness. They do not *make* people have lucid dreams any more than an exercise machine makes people have muscles. In both cases the goal, muscles or lucid dreams, result from practice. The machines just make it easier to get the desired results. Several factors enter into success with one of these devices. One is how well the device (or in the case of the DreamLink, the user) catches REM sleep with the sensory cues. Another is how reliably the cues enter into the dream without awakening the sleeper. A third factor is how well the device user does at correctly recognizing cues in dreams and becoming lucid. Finally, the user's commitment to performing reality tests every time upon waking up wearing the device has a lot to do with success. All four of these factors are, to some extent, controllable by the device user: adjustment of eye movement sensitivity to catch REM sleep, selecting a cue that enters dreams without causing awakenings, mental preparation to recognize cues in dreams, and resolution to do reality tests. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain a truly representative measurement of the effectiveness of the devices. Nonetheless, research with various versions of the DreamLight have shown that it definitely helps people have more frequent lucid dreams.
The most recent study was done with the current model of the DreamLight. A complete write-up of the experiment is in NightLight 5.3. In brief, fourteen people who were well-versed in DreamLight use compared two conditions. They believed they were trying two different types of cues. However, in fact in one condition they received no cues at all, as a sort of "placebo" condition. It was possible for the subjects to not know they were not getting any cues, because the DreamLight generally does not give cues when the wearer is awake (the result of the body movement sensor). Thus, the study examined how much the DreamLight's light cues contributed to the achievement of lucid dreams. Nights on which the DreamLight gave cues were called "CUED" and no-cue nights were called "PLACEBO".
Eleven of the 14 subjects reported at least one lucid dream during the study. Eight of the 11 (73%) had more lucid dreams on CUED nights, two (18%) had equal numbers, and only one (9%) had more on the PLACEBO nights. The average number of lucid dreams per person in the CUED nights was 0.30 (one lucid dream per 3 nights) versus 0.09 for PLACEBO nights (one lucid dream every 11 nights), a statistically significant nearly three-fold increase in lucid dreaming frequency. Clearly, the DreamLight cues help people to become lucid. Subjects reported about nine times more cue incorporations on CUED than on PLACEBO nights (CUED: 73 total, 0.90 per night average; PLACEBO: 9 total, 0.11 per night average). Dream recall was also higher on CUED nights; subjects recalled an average of 3.2 dreams per night in the CUED condition, versus 2.6 per night in the PLACEBO condition.
An earlier study with a different version of the DreamLight showed a five-fold increase in lucid dreaming frequency when people used the Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreaming (MILD) mental technique in conjunction with the device, compared with using no device and no mental technique. Using the device without mental techniques worked about as well as just using the mental technique, which was in both cases an improvement over using nothing.
In summary, at this stage the lucid dream induction devices can definitely help people learn to have more lucid dreams, or to have lucid dreams in the first place. Important factors contributing to success are good dream recall (and the DreamLight and NovaDreamer also can be used to boost dream recall), diligent mental preparation by the user, and careful adjustment of the device by the user to fit individual needs for cueing and REM detection. No device yet exists that will make a person have a lucid dream.
DREAM SPINNING: HOW TO PREVENT PREMATURE AWAKENING
At first, beginners may have difficulty remaining in the dream after they become lucid. This obstacle may prevent many people from realizing the value of lucid dreaming, because they have not experienced more than the flash of knowing they are dreaming, followed by immediate awakening. Two simple techniques can help you overcome this problem. The first is to remain calm in the dream. Becoming lucid is exciting, but expressing the excitement can awaken you. Suppress your feeling somewhat and turn your attention to the dream. If the dream shows signs of ending, such as a loss of detail, vividness and apparent reality of the imagery, "spinning" can help bring the dream back. As soon as the dream starts to fade, before you feel your physical body in bed, spin your dream body like a top. That is, twirl around like a child trying to get dizzy (you don't get dizzy during dream spinning because your physical body is not spinning around). Remind yourself, "The next scene will be a dream." When you stop spinning, if it is not obvious that you are dreaming, do a reality test. Even if you think you are awake, you may be surprised to find that you are still dreaming!
WHERE TO FIND LUCID DREAMING TRAINING
Over the past decade, exercises, techniques and training materials have been developed and refined to the point where most anyone should be able to learn to have more lucid dreams if they are willing to give it some time and effort. The Lucidity Institute offers lucid dreaming training through several modalities. To start, most bookstores carry (or can easily get) the book Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by LaBerge and Rheingold (Ballantine, 1990), or you can order it from the Lucidity Institute. It presents a step-by-step training program with exercises and an introduction to the various possible applications of lucid dreaming. The basic structure in this book is greatly expanded and augmented by the Lucidity Institute's workbook A Course in Lucid Dreaming. The course is five units, taking a minimum of 4 months to complete, and it guides you through completing a series of progressive exercises to build up your lucid dreaming ability. It uses EWLD as a textbook.
An intensive overview of lucid dreaming techniques is presented at Lucidity Institute Lucid Dreaming Training Programs. These workshops are often offered as a package with the purchase of a Lucidity Institute lucid dream induction device (DreamLight or NovaDreamer). So far, most of the Training Programs have been held in California, but the Lucidity Institute will give one wherever there is enough interest. Dr. LaBerge also gives weekend seminars at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California about once a year, as well as occasional lectures and workshops at other venues.

your Mr is were the magic trapped with in you is held and since im going to assume that none of you have ever done any thing with your Mr were just going to have to set it up.
when you use magic you know it comes from some were and some of us can even feel were in our mind, body or soul it seems to come from. for the people that can't feel it close your eyes focuse on the center of your being this is were you will find the Mr.
every one close your eyes and focus on that spot try to be there exsist there soon enough you will fell it and maby even see it (depends on how good your inner eye is)
you may feel like your falling through a pitch dark tube this is normal just go with it the ride will end soon enough
