In battle: you can recover at max up to half your total point value after that recovery for that system stops and you cannot recover those until after battle has ended.
Normal recovery: recovery outside of battle recovery is heightened by an additional 15% (i.e. 45% would jump to 60%)
Caliber:
Your caliber (Post limit) is determined by the Alpanumeral a mod assigns to your character. Yes it is possible to have better defensive skills than attack and vice versa.
