Hitram, the great Warlord of the Oasis, was out flying. He wasn't sure why. It sounded like a good enough idea; he felt like stretching his large, powerful wings. And, of course, it was always a good idea to scan the periphery of his Oasis. If ANYBODY dared move in on HIS Oasis, then he would catch them. And he would make them pay. Ooooh, how he would make them sorry.
High up, drifting lazily on a thermal, Hitram spotted something down below on the sand. It looked like... a jackal and another Khensu.

Rehema had been having a bad day, and it was about to get worse by a long shot. Here she was, flying out over the desert when her wing began to ache after a long rainy season of disuse and when she landed to rest near an oasis, a jackal comes to attack her. The day could only get worse if the jackal killed her, but she was certain it couldn't get worse. She was proud enough of her heritage to not call out for help, so she did not expect the great dark Khensu to be flying so close, or indeed any of what happened next. She just expected to be a jackal's lunch.

Hitram peered closer. It was a female Khensu. That changed matters. If it were a male, he would just have left him to the jackals (pun intended!). What's more, she was a lovely female. And she was fighting back, regardless of an obviously injured (or just sore) wing. Females didn't venture near Hitram's Oasis. He made a split-second decision and went for it.
Tucking his wings in, he dropped out of the sky like a bullet, aiming for the jackal's head. Just before impact, he threw his wings open with a snap and back winged. It slowed his drop, but only enough for him to keep himself in the air. He raked his claws out as he back winged, gouging the jackal badly. Hitram adjusted his flap and shot back up into the air, ready for another strike.

Startled, Rehema scrabbled back, away from the jackal, desperately trying to get her stiff and achy wing to work. Relieved that she could at least use it for a time, she decided to save it for flying to the oasis, and hopped forward to begin pecking at the already upset and bleeding jackal's paws.

Hitram was surprised- the female wasn't fleeing; she was ATTACKING the jackal! Now that was something unusual...
He adjusted his angle and dove at the jackal's back. Opening his talons, upon impact he clamped down on the jackal's skin and kept flying forward. As a result, Hitram ripped through the jackal's back. He soared just out of the jackal's range and screamed shrilly at it, threatening another pass.

Seeing her chance, she gave one last defiant peck and started flapping desperately for the safety of the oasis. Arriving there, she found a branch to perch on and rest her wing, breathing hard and clutching the branch with her sharp lavender talons.

The jackal, too intent on Hitram's attacks, didn't notice as the female Khensu flopped off. Hitram swooped at the jackal again, talons ready. The jackal stared Hitram down, squinting through the blood from the cuts on his eyes. Just before Hitram slammed into it, the jackal turned and fled, Hitram only raking the beast's tail. Hitram followed it for a few seconds, screaming defiantly.

Rehema watched as the black Khensu drove the jackal away and waited. Before she did anything else, she was going to thank him properly. He had saved her life, and she most definitely owed him at least her gratitude, if not more.

((0,o Woah. Is Rehema hinting about something?! xd ))
Hitram screamed defiantly one last time at the retreating jackal. Feeling smug with himself, he turned to fly back to his oasis. The jackal was probably what caused his restlessness earlier. Now that he'd had some fun, he was ready to.... do something or another.
However, as he faced the oasis, Hitram was surprised to see that the female had not flown off. She was obviously intelligent; she had to know what the other Khensu thought of him and his oasis.
Gliding down, Hitram landed on the branch near the female. Turning his steely eyes, he examined the female. She was in good health- apart from her wing injury. Her plumage was sleek and glossy, her talons sharp and her eyes keen. There was noticeable intelligence in those bright, attentive eyes; But there was something else in those eyes as well. An inner fire, an inner steel daring him, defying him. Of the females Hitram had encountered (of which there were not very many), none of them had this inner mettle. Hitram found the female very attractive. And very desirable. In short, he was completely besotted with her.
Completely unsure what to do (an entirely new experience for Hitram), he started cleaning the jackal's hide off of his talons, waiting for the female to do... something or other. He had no idea what to expect, nor any clue as to what to do either.

Rehema watched the male clean the jackal fur off his talons almost as if he was shy of her, and that surprised her. Surely he'd noticed her? No matter, she had to at least thank him and ask to stay until she could fly home. "Thank you for saving me," she said in her sweet, soft voice.
Now that she watched the male, she noticed that he was actually quite a handsome Khensu, obviously healthy and strong with feathers so glossy they could almost be obsidian, steely eyes with an intelligence, pride, and inner fire that impressed her. No other male she knew of was like this...though she had heard rumors of a male such as this, the Warlord, who was infamous for being an aggressive and protective Khensu, but...surely this chivalrous Khensu couldn't be him?

Hitram ruffled his feathers and shook himself.
...And he still had no idea what to do. What's more, the female just thanked him. That itself was something novel, but Hitram decided he liked the praise/thanks/whatever it was.
Hitram still wasn't exactly sure what to say. He'd never been... intimidated?... before. Especially not by a female. Was this what "intimidation" was? He immediately decided he did not like it. He did NOT like it ONE little bit. But... she was just so - so- so capable and impressive. ((OOC translation: he just got beaten over the head with puppy love xd ))
He fluffed again then pulled his feathers flat and bobbed his head. "You are.... welcome," he rumbled, very pleased that he hadn't stuttered or squeaked or anything a weak Khensu would do. "You may stay at my Oasis for as long as you feel the need to."
And Hitram immediately became slightly annoyed with himself. He was behaving like- like- like a hatchling! Hadn't his father, the Warlord Khaan, taught him better than that?! However, he let none of it show on his face.

Once again, Rehema was startled and pleasurably impressed by his chivalry. "Thank you for the offer, sir, I think I will take you up on it for the night, at least, as there is too little left in the day to fly home, especially since my wings are not at all being cooperative today. It's the effects of not flying enough during the rainy season, you see," she said by way of explanation. "It makes one's wings so stiff and sore when one starts flying regularly again."
