<-The ultimate guide of guides and warnings->
Parts of this thread are still under construction. These parts are labeled with "Under Construction" next to their names. Some links in these parts of the thread may work, others won't.
Alright guys! I personally believe that most, if not all, of the stuff in this thread should be read over and understood by every captain out there. However, the ones that should be read ASAP, are the ones with the red *'s next to them. (As this thread is long, and jam-packed with info; It's overwhelming at times.)

< -Captain's Guild Rules- > While in the Captain's Guild, you are expected to follow the following rules: Gaia's ToS and R&G Gaia's Terms of Service and Rules and Guidelines should ALWAYS be adhered to. Follow them or face the consequences. The ToS and R&G will be enforced. Conduct:Be respectful to each other. Do NOT flame, yell, harass, or be hurtful to anyone else in the Captain's Guild. This includes guild members, Gaia Staff members, oldbies, newbies, and everyone in between. If you feel like you simply cannot post anything nice, then please just refrain from posting. Post in the Appropriate PlaceEach subforum has a purpose, along with a thread saying what does and does not belong there. While Moderators do have the ability to move topics between the subforums, habitual posting in the wrong subforums by any member is wrong and will be considered spam. With the addition of the new subforums it can get a little tricky, but they're pretty self explanatory. Please use the subforums to keep the clutter down. If you'd like a thread moved, please PM any CG-NV Dedicated Moderator to let us know. (or just PM Quailea Nikka, as that's the best way to get a quick response) Learn to SearchWe don't aprove of what we call "repeat topics", "dead horse topics", "zombie", or "necro threads" in this guild. In short, some topics just have a way of rearing their ugly heads over and over. Please learn to search! Just take a few moments to look through the first few pages to see if your topic/question has already been addressed in another thread or a sticky. If it has, then PLEASE READ/POST IN THAT THREAD. If it has not, then go ahead and create your topic. Learning to search will enable us to prevent having multiple threads on one topic, thus helping the guild run more smoothly. A good example of a repeat topic is "How much do subforums cost?" Not only is this question answered in GGN: The Captain's Guide, but it's also continuously posted about on a daily basis. Please do not post this topic anymore! they only cost 2500! there, now you know, so DON'T POST IT! NetiquetteThe Captain's Guild is meant to be a resource for all Captains. A place to come to for assistance with your guild. But please, please don't take advantage of this. When posting in this guild, we ask that you do not post things like, "How much do subforums cost? PM me with the answer." The bolded part is what I'm pointing out. It's just plain rude. Please do not do this. If you really care to have your question answered, then please be courteous and check back on your own thread. Don't expect us all to be your personal ready-made answering service. We're already helping you by answering, we shouldn't be expected to PM you as well. **Special exception to this rule is made for posts in the Captains Market subforum. In there, this is allowed. But ONLY in there! BumpingWhile bumping your topic IS allowed, we ask that you only bump if your topic has fallen off the first index page and is still unanswered. This is a slow-moving guild, please give us time to see your post and respond before you lose all hope and start bumping. Constant, repeated, nonstop bumping will be considered spam. Attempt to Use Proper EnglishWe aren't English and Grammar teachers, and we understand that some people aren't native speakers of English while others simply aren't good at punctuation. We don't expect perfection, but we do expect an honest effort. If you are not a good speller, type your posts into a word-processing program and spell-check them before posting them. In addition, no netspeak or leetspeak will be tolerated, nor will various "cute" styles of posting such as aLtErNaTiNg CaPs, bolding or italicizing entire posts (to the point where it hurts to read it), or never-ending strings of emoticons. Compliance with this rule will make life a lot easier for our large non-native-English-speaker population as well as Moderators and our regular members. Not to mention it will help all of us understand what the hell you're trying to say! We can't help you if we can't understand you! Stay On TopicWhile Chat will be tollerated for bumping, if it gets to the point an old thread is constantly at the top of the list, the thread will be deleted. take it to the chat subforum please. Read the FAQ & Info Stickies and PostsThe GGN FAQ and other informative stickies and posts will answer a myriad of questions. Read them before you start asking questions. As a member of the Captain's Guild, you are expected to familiarize yourself with ALL announcements, stickies, and FAQs. posts:< -Rules and Guidelines- >< -Captain's Guild Rules- >< -What belongs in the GGN Support forum?- >< -Posting Pointers- >< -Reporting and you- >

< -Posting Pointers- > When making a new topic asking for help or reporting a new glitch, there are some important things to consider. In order for you to receive the best help, there are some things you need to include in your FIRST post. When reporting a glitchPlease place [GLITCH] in your topic's subject. Also make the subject somewhat descriptive! Don't just put "HELP!", be specific about your problem in your topic. Please include ALL this info in your first post: * Guild name * Link to the guild * Brief explanation/description of the glitch * When it first started happening * A link to the specific glitched page/post * Any relevent screen shots When you need a Moderator's attentionPlease place [MOD] in your topic's subject. Also make the subject somewhat descriptive! Don't just put "HELP!", be specific about your problem in your topic. Please include ALL this info in your first post: * Guild name * Link to guild * Brief explanation of problem * Any relevant links or screen shots of the problem Please remember, we are NOT gaia mods! All other topics simply need descriptive subjects. If you have a simple question or are seeking specific advice from other Captains, then please just use descriptive subjects and supply adequate info in your first post! The more detailed and specific you are, the better help you will receive! Also, please mark all topics as [RESOLVED] or [ANSWERED] or something similar in the subject line if your question has been answered. There is no need for more people to come in randomly and re-answer a question if it has already been answered. posts:< -Rules and Guidelines- >< -Captain's Guild Rules- >< -What belongs in the GGN Support forum?- >< -Posting Pointers- >< -Reporting and you- >

The Dangers of an Unknown Vice Captain What Vice-Captains can do:It is important for both new and old captains a like to be aware that members you promote to vice-captain within your guilds have the exact same set of permissions that you do as a captain. This includes the ability to transfer ownership of your guild (they can even make themselves the new captain). For these reasons it is absolutely imperative that you know and trust the member you are granting the vice-captain position to. Setting a random stranger as your vice-captain may put your captain status and guild at risk. As such, when selling your guild, you should know:It's also important to know that should you decide to sell your GGN later on, you absolutely do not need to make your buyer a vice-captain before changing ownership to them. Doing this is a very good way to get your guild stolen from you before you get paid for it. The buyer ONLY needs to be a member of the guild they are buying to have ownership transferred to them. THIS WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED BY: TKidAngelus Lucifer I've found this pretty useful whenever I select V.C.'s, so you might want to consider it. If they have a guild, they've got to trust you enough to put you in charge before you put them in charge. I find that if they have a common trust with you, your Guild won't be stolen. :3

Reporting a GGN theft Starting this evening, all cases of GGN Theft should be reported using the Report button located in the guild that was stolen. As we continue to move forward in providing more moderators for the GGN, as well as working on reports, it will make our lives easier if all ToS Violations are located in the report queue. Making it easier to handle a report To make things easier for us, we ask that only the Captain that is the victim reports the Guild Theft. In the report box, explain that your guild was stolen, who stole the guild, and any other information that would help us. Starting tonight, any threads posted that ask to have ToS violations handled, or are to have a GGN Theft Case resolved, will be locked. THIS WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED BY Doji Kurohito

What is a Guild and What can I do with it? A guild is like a privately run Forum. you choose who posts where, who can view what, and even who's not allowed in. most people use guilds to hang out with friends they meet on gaia. however, some use them to create VERY large and organized role plays. some use them for conversation, and some use them in the hopes of popularity. you can think of gaia as a city, or a state or province. your guild is like your home. so, the cops (gaia moderators) aren't going to come bust down your door unless you really screw up. however, they won't be coming around if you can't put a kid to bed, ect. it's up to you to keep it happy, and safe. (part of this post came from Galvatron)

Member status and their Powers CaptainsCaptains basically have the ultimate control. they make threads, they break threads, they buy subforums. they can promote members to whatever status and ban members from the guild completely. they can set subforums to 'crew only' to only admit the captain, vice captains, and crew. they can lock topics so that only the captains, VC's, and crew can post in it, but members can view it. Vice Captainsthey have ALL the same powers as captains. beware! they can steal your guild! Update: Vice captains can no longer transfer guild ownership unless the captain's account is either banned or inactive. crewcrew members can process join requests, invite members and view the crew activity log. they can also ban members of your guild, and post in locked topics. membersMembers can basically post in the forums and surf the subforums. they can give you feedback and make your guild live 3nodding

Guide to the Moderator Panel On a captains mod panel, they see the options: Quote: Crew Controls * Invite users to this guild * View current join requests * View Crew activity log Captain Controls * Edit guild settings * Edit guild forums * Change guild ownership * View transaction log * View Captain activity log * Captain's Guild invite users to this guildbasically, when you click this it'll take you to a screen with a space for usernames and a space for text. you can put in up to ten usernames, separated by comma's and spaces. (ex: username1, username2) View current join requestsThis is where people ranked crew to Captain can view requests other members have sent in to possibly join the guild. here, you can also accept or decline join requests for whatever reason. People you have sent invites too will not have to send in a join request. View crew activity logbasically all this is is what the crew has been doing with things like forums and members. edit guild settingsthis is a captain/vice captain ONLY control. through here you can edit the guilds front page, the entry fee, the guild's status (hidden, private, public), whether or not to hide it from the registry, whether or not to accept join requests... this is the single most important piece of your moderator pannel edit guild forumsYou'd use this tool to edit your subforums names and permissions. change guild ownershipthis tool is used to transfer the title of 'captain' to another guild member. remember, to transfer, they ONLY NEED TO BE A MEMBER. promoting them to VC when selling a guild is a good way to get it stolen. again, this is a dangerous tool at times, so don't fiddle with it just because. there have been guilds with no captain at all because it glitched, but instead 3 vice captains. view transaction logthis is just guild transactions, who donated what amount, and when you bought what subforums... it's a pretty unimportant tool, all in all. captains guildthis used to be a hardwired link to the original captains guild, but now that that guild is deactivated there's really no way to get to it.
