Beauty, as defined by the mystical power known as Wikipedia, is "a characteristic of a person, place, object or idea that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure, meaning or satisfaction. As a cultural creation, beauty has been extremely commercialized. An 'ideal beauty' is a person who is admired, or possesses features widely attributed to beauty in a particular culture."

Questions

Do you believe beauty can be "Commercialized"?
Do you believe that the current 'Beauty' being 'commercialized' is truly beautiful?
Do you feel pressured by 'a cultural creation' to conform to the sense of beauty everyone else is?

And while I use 'Beautiful' a lot, I mean handsome too...

biggrin Haha, WIKI FTW!
Beauty can definitely be commercialized. Travel agencies certainly use this to the utmost extent cool The beauty of people, places and things can draw others towards different places.
However I don't believe that the current trend of beautiful being commercialized is really beautiful at all. I see beauty in a mother's eyes, for the love of her children. I see beauty in the body of a father for all the years he's taken care of his family. I see beauty in a firefighter for his diligence to protect his community. To me there are an almost infinite number of possible beauties to experience and share. Concerning people I don't think there's any less. I really don't understand all the focus towards skinny/washboard ab, makeup covered flooziness. I think because it's way overplayed, it actually seems gross to me these days.
And no, I don't feel pressured by the current norm. As it is my entire life is a statement called "buck the trend." I do almost everything differently and it frequently shows. I tend to think of the norm as lazy, overcommercialized nonsense. Not that anyone who's normal is such. Just that I view normalcy this way in general. pirate
I love people who can be different and be happy with themselves.

Behold once again the mystical powers of Wikipedia:
"The subjective experience of 'beauty' often involves the interpretation of some entity as being in balance and harmony with nature, which may lead to feelings of attraction and emotional well-being. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is a common phrase that expresses this concept. In its most profound sense, beauty may engender a salient experience of positive reflection about the meaning of one's own existence. An 'object of beauty' is anything that reveals or resonates with personal meaning."

But then I looked farther down and it talks about 'inner beauty':
"Inner beauty is a concept used to describe the positive aspects of something that is not physically observable.

While most species use physical traits and pheromones to attract mates, some humans claim to rely on the inner beauty of their choices. Qualities including kindness, sensitivity, tenderness or compassion, creativity and intelligence have been said to be desirable since antiquity. However new research comparing what humans claim to find attractive to their actual mating habits underlines the superficiality of "inner beauty," underlining the fact that the human animal relies on physical traits and pheromones just like every other animal to find a mate. That said, whether "inner beauty" does or does not measurably affect humans' mating habits, some traits classified as "inner beauty" do give an evolutionary survival advantage to either the individual or mating couple or group or all three."

I think beauty is majorly trampled upon by the media... We are basically forced to feel we have to look a certain way or something to be beautiful. I do honestly though, my eyes, do prefer the 'sexier' looking ladies a bit, as a possible spouse. Idk, I think everyone has a small bit of shallowness in them really. =/ But I also value that this girl like me, will value her health, it feels good to be in good shape. It shows responsibility too kinda.

Personally, like many, I don't really 'love' how I look, but I don't think I'm necessarily "ugly", and many have said I am rather cute... Though I have some acne now, and I really hate it.

Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder though. Though I'd also like to say... just cause someone else says your ugly, doesn't make you ugly... What really matters is what God thinks of you.

"Happiness is like peeing in your pants..."

UG! Acne is the worst!
But that's just my opinion because I have it >.<
Make-up only seems to make it worse, so I don't bother.
Just have to act like you don't care what others might think about your appearances.

Try being a guy who does not like having to do anything with his face... Tried that proactive crap... Ick way too much attention to my face, and it didn't work that well. If I wore make up, it'd be really awkward. xD If you wore it, it'd be normal.

"Happiness is like peeing in your pants..."

On proactive... It seems to help somewhat. But not as much as I would like.

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what's best

Did someone mention...ACNEEEEEEE?!

My uncle has acne scars, but I think they give his face character.

Beauty is what you perceive it to be.

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of you. Only you can decide whether or not you are attractive, physical or otherwise.

I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes

Well yeah you don't have to be gay... But idk, when I mess around with my face it seems like all feminine and crap.

And yes it totally sucks. D=
