Basic threshold crossing/Cast for compassion Spell Making
Patience: 2 Focus: 2 Risk: 2 Difficulty: 1
I recommend a natural location where you can find some quiet. I recommend a time of day that makes you happy and relaxed. I like easy-to-find materials, so go ahead and obtain 1 candle, 1 stick of incense (something that makes you feel good), a lighter/matches, and 1 stone that you feel good about holding in your hand. Get an idea of something nice you would like to happen for someone, even if it's yourself. You will also need to prepare 1 piece of art on paper. If you are good at writing, write a little poem about a character who is kind and gentle. If you are good at drawing, go ahead and draw yourself someone who is perfectly kind and gentle. Oh, and careful what you wear, you're gonna have to be kneeling and digging a small hole.
1. Go to the spot you have chosen, at the time of day you have chosen.
2. Kneel, close your eyes, and take deep calming breaths until your body feels warm and heavy.
3. When you feel ready, put the bottom of the candle into the dirt in front of you, and scoop out a little hole in front of you. The hole only has to be about as big as your fist.
4. Hold the stone in your hands, and think about the good thing happening that you want. Really think hard about it, see how it would really happen.
5. Then place the stone in the hole and light the candle.
6. If you have a poem, read it now. If you have a picture, take a moment to gaze at it.
7. Let the candle catch your artwork on fire, and let the ashes of your art fall on top the stone, and cover the hole back up (with both the stone and the art inside it).
8. Light the incense off the candle and let it stick out of the dirt to burn.
9. Cover the lump of dirt (with your items in it) with your hands, close your eyes, and get lost in the description of that really nice person you portrayed. While you're doing this, make sure you're still breathing heavy, and think about the air around you while this is happening.
10. Now think about the space right in front of you, and keep your eyes closed, and bow your head down a bit, so that your closed eyes are facing the ground. Imagine someone very kind walking out of a cave, out of the woods, out of some water, just approaching you out of something. You should feel the air about you change, and you should sense movement at the very least.
Closing procedures: Put your candle out. If your incense is still burning, and you are ready to go, make sure you put that out too. When both are extinguished, make sure to say "Thank you," outloud, and you can go.
*** Results *** You should feel a spirit moving around you. It may touch you, it may run its hand through your hair, and it may just come and go. This spirit should come to acknowledge your request. It may stay a while - if you're lucky, you may even be able to speak with it. But, it might just leave as quickly as it came. If the spirit finds a way to make your request manifest, and if you were respectful to the spirit, you may find yourself with a pleasant surprise in the future. This is a basic, safe experience in summoning a spirit, and in casting.
To practice making your own spells, try this but change something. Like try tweaking the time of day (to keep the risk level at a low 2, I recommend not doing it in the later hours, especially if you are tired). Try changing the candle color (unspecified). Try taking something out altogether. Try adding something like music. Try tweaking your breathing patterns. Just make sure that you make 1 change at a time so you can see how/if it is affecting your outcome. Also, do not use an element that scares you.

Sanguina-chan posted directly on my assignments thread. This thread is to be used for Q&A, and her post was: Quote: What is the relevance of each action here? I mean... I don't like using other people's spells. I think it's counter-intuitive. What appeals for one person will not work for another person. So... why post a spell here? Why will someone else's spell be of use? What brought you to do things in this way? Why do you perform these actions? What is the point and purpose of each action? Why am I going to this spot? Why must I be outside? What has the stone got to do with anything? Why am I burying it? Why is there a candle? Why have I got a poem or a picture? Why am I burning the picture and burying it with the stone? What relevance does this person have? Am I creating them or summoning them? Why would I want to do this? I would be happy to explained to you why I chose the things that I did, but I don't have time at the moment. These assignments are all optional, and this particular assignment was completely inteded for those who do not have knowledge on spell creation. The methods behind how they work can be explored later, but being a threshold exercise, the only purpose is to experience the presence of something on another plane. Quote: I need to know these things in order to understand this spell. Saying what to do is not enough; how and why is tremendously important. I feel like the point of focus here is a bit... Not specific enough. As the basis behind magic is energy, will and focus, if I was doing this spell I would be unsure of what exactly I was focusing upon. There's all these distractions... am I meant to be creating something, or summoning something, or sending happy energy to someone, or trying to create a positive happenstance? There are all these bits and pieces and I'm not sure what the focus is here. I'm also a bit iffy on when and how you're suggesting energy should be raised. I think you should state at the beginning of this ritual that it involves summoning a spirit. Spirit-summoning can be dangerous... It's likely to be fine but either way it's... impolite. It's not something I would ever recommend. So I reckon you should mention that at the beginning rather than at the end The spell is secondary, the threshold experience is really what one is supposed to get out of this. I agree that reasoning behind everything is tremendously inportant, but this is meant to be a beginner assignment, and thus I gave it a beginner rating. And I would very much hope someone would finish reading the whole assignment before going out and doing it.

have some time now to answer your questions:
Why post a spell here? It is more than a spell, it is primarily a threshold experience. I decided to incorporate spell creation tools because it has been requested as a lesson. And I post it here because this is where you post your lessons.
Why will someone else's spell be of use? I don't really see why it wouldn't be to tell you the truth. I realize more personal spells are more effective, but how would you teach one about spells without using an example?
What brought me to do things in this way? Why do I perform these actions? What is the point and purpose of each action? Well, I chose the things I did because it allows the spell to be very personal, because I really gave more of a general outline for the tools. I chose the nature of the tools to be safe for the user. I used so many tools to ensure that an unexperienced person would have success with this exercise. Performing each of these actions gives you a concrete way to express your desire, and the other actions express respect. This respect will increase the probability of success as well as keep the user safe. Also pertaining to the tools, the tools were chosen because they are easily obtainable.
Why am I going to this spot? You tell me - I'm letting the person pick the spot.
Why must it be outside? It isn't completely necessary if you make a ton of other changes.
What has the stone got to do with anything? The stone is easily obtainable, and stones are also great for charging and vibrational practices, and the stone becomes a physical symbol of your desire, increasing the imagery aspect and your success with the whole process.
Why am I burying it? The stone is burried to symbolize your sending your wish into the world, as well as your leaving your stress with it behind. It is also symbolic of letting your wish fall into your subconscious, which may then cause your mind to act appropriately to manifest your desires.
Candle It is useful as a focal point, as well as allowing the symbolism of fire to be used in the process.
Why the art? Why burn it? Creating art, in any way, is putting a piece of yourself out into the world. Creating the art of a kind and gentle person will cause you to express a symbol of kindness, and while on paper, the paper is then charged with all these thoughts. Art is also very personal, and the more time and care you put into your casting, the better your results will be, and the more respect it shows to the powers at work. Fire is a powerful symbol of transformation, and in burning the image, you are showing respect for the powers, and you are allowing your energy from the charged paper to be sent into the air around you. Burying it with the stone will guide this spirit of kindness to your wish.
Am I creating them or summoning them? This answer should be personal, and may vary from person to person, but regardless, this spirit is manifesting.
Why would I want to do this? Well, one would want to do this activity if they wanted experience with spells, experience with spell making, and experience beyond this plane. In general, one would want to do this if one wanted to learn how to do this.
There's too much to focus on Focus on the theories is what begets the tools. Focus on the tools is what begets the procedure. Focus on the procedure is what begets the results. Being a beginner exercise, the user needs only to focus on each step, as each step may have you focus on something specific itself. The point here is to have an experience to work with so that you may develop ideas behind this and have an outline to experiment with later. Focus should be very strong, and spreading your focus out to all these details lessens your work.
When and how the energy should be raised. I'm not suggesting when and how, because I would have to get into theory, on which many may disagree. I am only suggesting that one is generating energy. You shouldn't be focusing on the background stuff while you're performing the procedure.
And you are right that I did not mention the fact that spirits would be involved, but I only implied it in step 10. Threshold exercises, which this has been categorized as in the very beginning, indicates that this nature of result is to be expected. I did indicate the risk to be level 2. There is no real harm to be concerned with here, but one should be serious about this. In generating the type of energy that I have the user generating, only specific types of spirits will be attracted to come through. The tools ensure the type of spirit as well. The results are also listed and available for all to see, so if you are nervous about what is going to happen, then it is available to read. If you wish to be surprised by your results, then read them later. It's the choice that having the results section labeled enables the user to make themselves.
If you have more questions, I am more than happy to answer them. By the sounds of your response, this exercise somehow insults you personally and frightens you. I assure you, this exercise is very safe, and I don't know exactly how these responses were conjured, but I am very sorry for them if I indeed am to blame.
