Ok heres a long one so sit down.

The gravemind is the leader of the flood but the reason he helped them out was because the gravemind knows that only The chief or the humans can stop the ring from firing. He also knows that only the humans can activate it. The only reason he helps them is because the 3 prophets are also a form of flood but somehow a bit more evolved. They know what will happen once the ring is activated. ( kinda strange that the flood is fighting the flood. )

In part 2 where the gravemind brings together the chief and the arbitor is because he wants to get them and pin them to there true enemy instead of each other. ( The thing is more to the graveminds real threat ( the prophets ). The prophets just used who they need to get closer to activating the rings. ( they were never on anyones side, thats why they then go with the brutes and start getting rid of the covenant when they know that they are also a threat now ) which at the end form the alliance with the arbitor and the humans.

At the end of halo 2 cortana was never captured. She chose to stay behind in case the ring was activated she would destroy the ring like they did in halo 1. The only thing is that she is in the rings system so basically she can move anywhere through out the ring. Thats why the grave mind goes to cortana in the end because he wants to know of the outside world ( earth and other planets ) and not just that but he also wants to know what cortana my know.

Also since cortana was in the system she had already gained the information about the ARK and other information about the history and things that can be done about the rings. She also knew that the ARK was gong to create a new installation 04. But the most important thing was that the ARK was a huge key to activate all the rings at once, but there is one thing about the ARK. If the ARK was activated then who ever was at the ARK would not get affected at all. ( The humans were the ones who created the ark in order to escape there own fate many years ago. Thats why the portal was at earth. It would get every human away from earth and they could safely activate the rings without them being killed. Then once its all over after a few years they would use the portal to head back and restart a new life.)

But this is just my thought of the situation.

Oh well since you don't have halo 3 theres a lot more stuff on it. The gravemind just uses u until he no longer needs you. Once you play halo 3 you will see why I say the Prophets are a type of flood. They don't say it but you just have to look at a certain cut scene while your in the ark when he starts to show flood like behavior( it could be that they are another gravemind also but unsure ). There are still a lot of questions about halo even after the HUGE cliffhanger at the end of the legendary ending.

Not so .... In part 2 thats what he dose, he gets the chief and arbiter are pined together by the gravemind to find the key and find the prophets. Once he found out where the prophets a the key were he sent the flood to destroy everyone, Including chief and arbiter. So really no spoilers have really been told ninja ninja ninja

i c.. i did notice that the prophets dont look anything like the covenant .. and even when gravemind was talkin to chief and arbiter .. he also had one of the prophets with him.. that ws becomin part of gravemind.. hey wat weapon u thinks the most effective against the flood.. for me i had the energy sword and the needle gun .. lol instant death

off topic question : an anyone help me.. with something.. i'm lookin for a halo theme for my laptop.. it a vista.. iv seen alot of other games. final fantasy , call of duty etc.. but i really want a halo vista theme. so if anyone has one or knows where to get one.. can u tell me please .

Cortana is n AI so once she gets plugged in anything she basically knows everything about it right at that moment. ( part one in the control room, Part 2 in the covenant city )
