K, well, we all believe in magic and the occult in here. What are your thoughts on "magical" and "mythical" creatures? What about Dragons (for starters, since mentioning them all in one topic would be a bit much, huh?)
My question for you all: Do dragons exist? How did they/do they survive in this world? What are they like?

God I wish I could say that I do believe that they did exist. I do believe that at one point they did. I'm not saying at all that I'm open to the possibility, because I certainly am, and I'd even be biased to believe it with even the tiniest piece of physical evidence. I'm sure you could argue that they exist on a spiritual plane of some sort, or out of human sight, or any number of things that come to mind. I've even read a fantasy novel, by the title of "The Glass Dragon" where the dragons were just transluscent, so many people couldn't see them, because they just blended in with everything...I liked that theory more than most, because it has the most potential to apply. But in a physical, worldly sense, I'd have to say that I don't believe that they exist...but Oh! if they did razz

I don't know that they exist right now. They may have gone extinct, or perhaps there are a few living in mountainous regions...somewhere. But I believe that they did exist at some point. Looking at a few cultures (The European and the Eastern cultures, mostly), I don't think they had much contact thousands of years ago, when the stories of dragons came into existence. Rather, I don't think there was any contact (please correct me if I am wrong, all you history majors out there! lol). So here's my proof through query: How could two cultures come to have stories of a flying creature (winged or not), reptilian in nature, when neither culture had contact with each other? Some say they found dinosaur bones....that doesn't explain why they would be reptilian, or why they would fly. Also, I'm not sure if the Oriental dragons could breathe fire (I think they did, but it's been a while since I last researched dragons) but that would be just another physical similarity to be explained.
(looking for other thoughts on this topic!)
Bubbliscious, the idea of dragons living on another plane of existence, or even the idea of a glass dragon - humans can't see them. It reminds me of an anime about spirits....normal humans could not see them on the level of vision we see with, but some humans could actually see the spirits. That is an interesting idea indeed, and it's possible that if dragons exist (or faeries, or any number of beings, but I can start a new topic for that wink ) maybe we just can't see them with our eyesight.
