In your opinion who had it the worse, and why?

Tantalus who was strapped to a tree with an apple in front of his face and a pool of water below him, of which he could never reach to quell his hunger and quench is thirst .
Prometheus who was chained to a rock and had a giant bird eat out his liver every day for eternity.
Atlas who had to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders.

If you have any other cruel tortures famous characters in Greek mythology had to endure, feel free to share them.
Also consider what they did to be caught in such a plight.

Aracna (i think it was her) was turned into a spider because she challanged Athena to a weaving contest.

Now, I don't remember if Aracna's cloth was better than Athena's or not....>.> If it was, Athena is a spitefull *itch.

I remember one of Sisyphus, who was in the underworld with Tantalus, I think.

From what I can recall, he did something like feed the gods a stew of human flesh, and they were so enraged that after his death, he was punished by being forced to push a rock up a hill. But whenever he got close to the top of the hill, the rock would roll down the other side and he'd have to start all over...for all eternity.

That's so nerve-racking!! gonk But I think either Prometheus had it worse. I can only imagine having to go through that sort of torture with the knowledge that it would go on everyday forever! And he can't die!! cry The worst part was that he didn't really do anything wrong, too!

>.> Gods are just spiteful jerks...the Greek ones are anyway.
And then there's that one girl that killed her children as was transformed into a whirlpool or something. Odiseus(sp) had to try to get around her in the Oddessy.
What I don't get is why the gods usually transformed bad women, but kept punishments for men until they died and went to Hades.

XD I didn't either until I started writing that last post. You never hear of a women being tortured in Hades in Greek myths or guys being transformed into some thing terrible.
I don't think the gods thought the whole "turning women into hideous beasts" thing through. They end up killing more people that the women did in the first place!
Greek gods were kinda stupid too U_U

I thought the transformation of Medusa into a gorgon was pretty cruel. At least when Ariadne became a spider the gods didn't send someone to kill her off. (But then again... how many spiders have you squished?)

=O Good point!
I think the story about hermaphrodites was this two lovers that made love so passionatly that they fused.
That would suck because what are you going to do, kiss yourself?
