I'm all fine if Gaia needs the money and all that, as I'm sure the site is hard to run, but what I HATE about new corporate Gaia is the "Hip Teen" way they've been going. They fail to notice that they don't NEED to be "Hip" to get a profit. The way Gaia has always been, a place of creativity and escapism, is what's really the selling point. They could make tons of money by advertising the whole "Make an avatar" aspect rather than trying to be like myspace. The whole avatars and creating a character deal is what really makes Gaia "Cool". And anime is getting more and more popular anyway, and a lot of companies try to use an "Anime" style to get younger buyers, yet ironically, Gaia is doing quite the opposite, straying away from the whole anime style. Gaia is fine just the way it is~

And yes, this whole "hip teen" thing is what's really been turning me off lately. The whole anime thing worked out rather well for them way back when, and part of what really got me into Gaia to begin with.
Another thing that leaves me cold is the development of many needless knobs and whistles and all.
gonk I was just fine with merely having avatars, RPing and all that, with forums just for discussing whatever being the icing on the cake.
So, in a nutshell, yes. I think whoever decided to jump on the hip Myspace bandwagon really missed the boat here.
