I'm very sorry if this offends anyone but it's something I've been thinking about for a few days.
So, as a member since '04 on another account I, like many other people, have gone through the 'N00B' stage and have outgrown it to become part of the Gaian community.
Yet some how something seems wrong with N00B5 today...
One of my friends that actually lives near me heard about Gaia from my best friend, because she knows I go on it a lot, and got her hooked onto it. And she's been on for over 6 months.
Sad thing is she is still a N00B! She acts like the profiles that I have I made. She hasn't heard of tektek.org which is one of the main tools that we have. And she still spreakens(speaks) like a N00B. And a lot of the people she associates with are the same way. This makes me wonder why is it that they're not getting out of the N00B phase and still asking for donations even when they have like five MC's?
Would anyone care to answer my question?
Thanks, Juli

I actually haven't run into too many n00bs lately. I don't stray far from very specific threads though ;3 Actually, the newest users that I've met have been my own age or older. So early 20s on up. One of my closest friends on Gaia has kids who are almost my age xD So I keep running into the mature users, but again, I limit where I go specifically to avoid n00bs.
I think it just depends on what you latch onto when you start. If you start in the Chatterbox or GD and don't really post in other places, then you never learn that there's more to Gaia than nonsense. The first things that I did on Gaia all involved some kind of literate role-playing, so I moved out of n00b-state pretty fast.
As for asking for donations when they have 5 MCs, well, I think new people come in, see all the shiny things, and think they're entitled to the same. I think its hard to earn enough gold to buy nice things on Gaia unless you have a system for yourself, and n00bs generally don't yet. They're begging because they either don't think they can get the gold themselves, or they don't want to work hard. The latter should be pummeled into the ground, but the former just need some good suggestions, since I guarantee most of them probably haven't read any of the tips actually suggested by staff xD

Thank you. That would totally explain it. Because as far as I know she only bumps and talks to other bumpers.

I know many newbies that totally bypassed the N00B phase.
But then I know many that totally embraced it.
N00b is fashionable among the mid and lower echelons of Gaian society...
In rallies I act more of a noob than I have ever seen, half the time.
Its simply more fun to not ALWAYS be polite and correct.
This is my belief.
Though yes, Gaians do need to grow up.

It is easy to kill someone with a slash of a sword. It is hard to be impossible for others to cut down. O.O I was never a noob. when I came here I came to talk to people about anime and col stuff. I didn't give a fig about the clothes. I just made my avi somewhat presentable and went to talking. for me when I started I just wanted to talk to people with the same interests as myself. that eventually changed though......leading to my first banning from gaia that I admit was my fault. but then I sobered up and waited about a month before coming back and from that point on I have been what you see. somewhat insane but still an interesting person to talk to and I still spend most of my time talking with people not worrying over how my avi looks or other BS.
War is not about who is right, it is about who is left.

War is not about who is right, it is about who is left. I beleive I had a similar story. I started gaia for friends, stayed for the forums, and never really went through the whole "OMG LOL" phase....So I can't really say what's up with that whole thing.

I never really went through the whole "OMG LOL!11!!11" phase either. I started gaia because of a couple of real life friends but I ended up making some friends here too. They made sure I didn't go through that phase and were most helpfully. I really miss those guys.
So I think Kitty is right. I learned there is more to gaia then just bumping and other nonsense by talking to and being around members who didn't bump all the time. They also warned me to never beg.
