Alicia stood sluggishly with a frown on her face. A brush in one hand, her long brown hair in the other, she brushed with a bitter smirk for each tangle she tugged in her hair. Just 20 minutes ago, she was smacking the off button on her ear-piercing alarm clock which read 6:00 am.

Alicia worked in an up-and-comming law firm. More specifically, she worked in a dark records room with nothing but a swaying dim light to make the dull stacks of paper glow a cigarette-stain yellow. The wind outside was blowing through the trees, howling and threatening the house that stood beneath the trunk's bend.

Pa-tooey! She spit her toothpaste out into the sink, and with some rusty rattling and vibrating, the water coughed through the spout to rinse the basin clean - barely. She lightly and quickly squeezed the spout of her perfume bottle, ensuring her unforgettable scent was not that of sweaty socks. Then the lights vanished with a hard click and hum. She looked over her right shoulder, then over her left, and stopped finally up at the light. She slowly turned herself around and gave the light a hard, puzzled stare. "Damn it. I better go check the breakers." Her impatient hand grasped the door handle and began pulling when she heard the sound of heavy breathing. She quickly spun toward the source, toward the sink, but before she could fully turn around, a metallic clink, clink clink clink, clink spat out from the basin's depths. Hesitantly, she approached and pulled the metallic object from the sink; the object that made her heard punch her chest in quick retreat; it was a knife.

She took the makeup lighter from the medicine cabinet to examine the dark sink. The flicker from her flame made the shadow of the knife dance against the surface of the sink and mirror. "Where in the hell did this come from?" Alicia gently set the knife back into the sink. "It's dark... if I lose track of this, I may end up with an injury." Ba-na-na-na, ba-na-na-na, ba-na-na na na. Alicia spun around too fast and jolted towards the half open door, hitting her head. "What the ********!?" BZZZZT. A vibrating sound came rattling from the back of the toilet, and a light strobed throughout the bathroom. "Oh, Jesus Christ... it's my phone." BEEP "Hello?"

"Hi Alicia, this is Bob from work. I'm closin' up the front door right now. The power's out, and I ain't got a generater, so I don't see why your pretty face has gotta be showin' up today. If somethin' changes I'll give ya a jingle, k honey? Enjoy the day off why dontcha?"

"Alright, thanks Bob." BEEP "Enjoy my day off," thought Alicia, "in this damn dark." Her neck felt hot, and she hadn't noticed that the breathing sound had returned, and was much louder than before. She swatted the back of her increasingly itchy neck and felt something cool fly out of the air behind her. She spun around, and she thought she saw movement in the darkness, but it ceased. THUD She looked down, "What the hell was that?" She flicked out her trusty makeup lighter again and saw a knife against the bathroom floor. "Where do these keep coming from?!!" Alicia and her reflection in the mirror both reached to add the knife to her newly begun collection in the sink, when she noticed her reflection wasn't holding a knife. She paused, looked up at her face in the mirror, and her reflection spread her frown into an ear-to-ear grin with dark eyes.

Alicia gasped in horror, and no sooner did she drop the knife in the sink did her reflection pick it back up and begin reaching for her. Alicia ran out of the bathroom and threw the door shut. Breath racing, she leaned against the door for a quick moment to regain her orientation. "s**t, my phone's in there! It's okay... it was probably just my imagination." She stood away from the door, swallowed hard, squeezed and released her hands a few times and fearfully wrapped both hands around the doorknob. "Aha ha ha ha ha." A speedy, high-pitched, fluttering laugh pierced form beyond the door. "s**t! ********! ********! DAMNIT!" She leaned to barricade the door, and she banged the back of her head on the door in defeat, until she heard a curious sound. It sounded kind of like scratching, only it was smaller somehow; more defined. Her reflection was standing in the bathroom, glaring at the spot in the door where her head had slammed, tracing the shape of her head in malicious delight. The reflection pulled her hand back with the knife firmly clutched and let one more laugh out. This laugh was slower and deeper; a lot like shrieking and laughing at the same time. CRUNCH! The knife pierced through the door, but no blood poured in. The laugh had made Alice jump away from the door. Alice saw the knife pull back, but it was quickly replaced with a large, blood-shot eye ball darting spurratically from the ohter side of the hole.

Alice ran into her bedroom and slammed the door shut. In fact, she pulled her bed in front of it to barricade it. She sat on the bed looking at her closet, pushing a sigh of relief from her tight, stressed lips. She sat still a moment to stop her hands from shaking. The room was dark despite the sun trying to rise into the morning sky; though she could see her way around the room well enough. She glanced up and jumped almost immediately. Her reflection had gotten in! No wait, it's just the mirror on the closet door. She raised her right hand to brush a couple sweat beads from her forehead. "I've gotta be more careful." She said outloud, noticing via her mirror that she almost grazed her forehead with the knife. "I don't have..." The reflection returned that sadistic smile and started slowly leaning for her out the mirror, her head thrashing back and forth, spraying spit into the room. Alicia screamed, looking desperately for something to defend herself with. A lamp! One adrenaline-fueled throw sent the lamp into the mirror, crashing the mirror into little pieces.

She tugged her bed back away from the door. She looked down at her feed, as she slowly opened the door, to notice hundreds of her reflections pushing tiny knives out the mirror fragments. Arms with knife in clutch steadily reaching for her like a plant reaches for sunlight. Her foot crashed down on the pieces, but this only made things worse. She ran out the bedroom and past the bathroom door, an eyeball still in the cracks, and still following her every step. Alicia pushed her weight on her arms to prop herself against the stove. "Heh... HA HA HA HA." Alicia chuckled out a desperate laugh. "There aren't any mirrors in here you WHOOOORE!" Something suddenly slashed across her knee. Whincing in pain, she jumped backwards and saw a hazy reflection crawling out of the stove's surface. She ran to the front door, squeezed tightly to pull back and unlock it, and she felt a puncture in her hand. A smal knife was sticking out of her hand, and a reflection on the gold door knob was laughing hysterically. "YOU CAN'T BE EVERYWHERE! LEAVE ME ALONE!! I'LL KILL YOU!!!" she shrieked.

She thrust open the kitchen drawer, pulled out a knife of her own, grabbed a candle from a kitchen cabinet, and darted for the bathroom. She lit the tip of the candle and thrust it into the eyeball. A nails-on-a-chalk-board scream violently echoed against the bathroom surfaces. Alicia kicked the door in and stared herself down in the mirror; her reflection with her arms at her side, eyeball healed and seemingly unphased, and her sadistic smile twisted into a bitter snarl. Alicia lifted the knife, as did her reflection. She pulled her arm back, as did her reflection. She began stabbing towards the mirror, but then she realized, her reflection would stab her back, so Alicia sobbed for a moment before regaining her confidence. Her reflection's arms were still mimicing her own. "It'll never end... never... I can't hurt you." Alicia winced again from the slash in her leg and the knife still protruding from her palm. She took a deep breath and let a numbness come over her. Alicia and her reflection raised their arms up together in front of them. The two of them spun the knife around to face inward, and with a definite plung, the knife penetrated her soft belly. Her eyes slammed shut. She collapsed to the floor; her belly spilling out blood faster than her shirt could soak it up. The power returned and restored the lights, and her phone range, vibrating itself onto the floor and into speaker mode.

"Hey Alicia, it's Bobby. Where the hell are ya? When I called ya an hour ago, you sounded like you were on yer way. Come in as soon as you get this. I don't wanna hafta fire ya." Alicia looked up dazed and confused... "what?" Her reflection was still standing in the mirror, hands up in the air and knife pointed in. Her reflection laughed a satisfied laugh as Alicia's world faded into black, and while her eyes looked ever-more inward, the laugh grew slower, and deeper, and demonic. Before sighing her last breath into the bathroom floor, Alicia squeeked out, "no... but I... not fair..."
