I don't know the criteria for a draft horse's weight, but I know on light horses, you're supposed to be able to feel their ribs a little. Norman is an American Cream Draft (17 hh), and I can't feel his ribs at all, and he's got a lot more pudge on him than my TB. Drafts are supposed to be meatier, but how much is too much? I used the tape measure thing to estimate his weight, and it wouldn't even fit around his girth. >.> My trainer said he was a good ton.

He's the big sorrel one, obviously. XP

Ignoring the fact that Norman's red sorrel and not cremello, I'm trying to compare him with other Creams:

hrm...he looks a tad pudgy to me, judging from the pics. Its hard to tell how chunky his build is, and how much of it is muscle. I'd ask your vet if I were you.

He's on the pudge side of normal, but isn't 'fat'. You just wouldnt want him any heavier. He's a nice going into winter or work weight. Not over heavy, but enough fat to keep him warm in the winter. This is a nice weight for starting to work them again because they wont get skinny faster than you can feed them.
Some horses you can almost always feel their ribs even when they are on the heavy side, some store more weight on their ribs so you dont feel them as much. But that is the general rule, they should be felt not seen.

Yeah, like they said, he looks just a little chubby, but it also looks like a lot of his mass is muscle. It would be best to ask your vet smile
