It's a brandy, basically.
It's at the drier end. Brandy is the middle drink (as well as the generic term) with Cognac as the sweet end of the spectrum and Armagnac at the dry end.
Cognac is more common though, takes less getting used to. Armagnac is like distilled fire, it burns. It's beautiful though. Smooth, not harsh. Flavoured not aggressive.
It looks like it might be posh and wimpish, but it's so very very not.

I tried something that was 100 % alcohol...it had no taste, but it burnt.
My brother in law drank a shot of it, and his throat was sore for a week.

Could it have been '100 proof'? 100% abv sounds like chemistry stuff.
