I want to be able to tell my family about my beliefs, and I know that it wont go over well. So I'm wondering, what would be the easiest way to break it to them without getting something thrown at me?
Most of my family has been raised catholic so it's kind of hard to talk to them about anything that doesn't have to do with god, except my dad who is Native American and believes in the spirits of things, and he won't take it well either.
Any ideas?

Well, if you're still living with your parents/family it might not be the best idea to tell them now, you might want to wait until you're no longer living under their roof and their rules.

But if you absolutely have to, you could always tell them your beliefs a bit at a time. Don't specifically mention the words Satan or Satanism, but just explain your beliefs when the subject comes up. If they start getting preachy or defensive you could calmly explain that you just don't agree with or believe in that anymore.
If they specifically ask you what your religion is, tell them, then try to explain the basics and clear up the misconceptions as best you can. They might be more willing to listen if you explain the basics first, then tell them the name. (If Satan is the first word out of your mouth you can bet they'll tune out anything else you have to say.)

It might be best to explain it to one person alone first (your Dad would probably be a little more open to it). That way when you tell the rest of your family, you'll have at least one person on your side.

Like my parents don't know the specific name of my religion, but I do share some of the basic ideas with them, and they don't seem to be opposed to it. (But then my parents aren't really religious...)

I wouldn't tell them unless you really have to. It doesn't sound like your going to gain anything by telling them, so why bother?

well, i have never seen any reason to hide my beliefs from others. I am proud of who and what i am. having said that, whenever i tell anyone i never come out with the word satanist at first. the first thing i do is to say that i follow the Teachings of Anthon Szander Lavey. i then go on to simply explain to them all that this entails for example that it is a left hand religeon with no god or dieties. then i make a point of explaining to them how the word satan literally translated means opposite or against and explain that this is an opposite religeon and therefor has earned itself the name of satanism. i believe the greatest opposng forces against us is not the catholics, protestants or such-like but devil-worshippers. the people who seriously believe in satan and worship him in several controversial ways (including the infamous sacrifice rituals) these people call themselves satanists. it is this which really besmirches the name of our religeon and causes people all over the world to dislike us or disregard our religeon as a joke at the 1st use of the term satanism. my advice to any laveyan satanist is, explain clearly to people the ins and outs of your religeon before you hit them with the S word.
