Do have a book that you've read that has something to do with faries, witches, ghosts, gods, goddesses, vampires, werewolves, zombies, ect? Why not share it here? We can have an open discussion about that particular book or maybe suggest it for others to read. So go ahead and submit your post.

If you like magic/fantasy books, you should try Victoria Hanley's novels. The three novels (The Seer and the Sword, The Healer's Keep and The Light of the Oracle) are interconnected, but not part of the same series.

I've never heard of them, but I'll definately have to look into them. If you like fairies and Tam Lin then I suggest An Earthly Knight by Janet McNaughton. I really enjoyed this book.

Me too! Have you read the House of Night series by P.C. and Kristen Cast? That ones another really good one with vampires.

Twilight I think is one of the worst things to happen to Vampires. They've been watered down, and made safe..... Really annoys me.

The Hellboy comics are something to be praised for this. I actually avoided the comics like a plague when I was younger, going "Hellboy? Immature...." When I saw the movie, I was surprised at how good it was... Not a lot of angst, despite his demonic origin (unlike Spawn or Blade, who spend much of the time crying about it).... And it was like watching an old fantasy epic at times...

Then I read the comics. If you claim to like Myths and Folktales, READ THESE. What Mignola does is he spends all day reading books of old myths and folk tales JUST to find inspiration. I read a comic that I immediately recognized as a story I first heard at a Folk Festival.... And then like eight more in a row. Lots of Slavic stuff in there, some celtic, doesn't matter. After all, Hellboy IS a globetrotter.

I write Hellboy Fan fic the same way.....

I've read those books and they are quite good. My only issue is they do not cover a lot of time per novel.
Also, I like the Dark Hunter series by Sherilyn Kenyon. It is an interesting take on little known pantheons (Atlantean/Sumerian)

I've been meaning to read the Dark Hunter series, but I have other books that have a higher priority on my list.

I read manga and stuff, but American graphic novels hold no interest for me. I have tried and failed to read them.

Dude, they are the same thing..... Manga and Comic Books, anime and cartoons... Different words for the same thing, with no inherent difference. You can't even make the claim that the art style differentiates them because Japan and America steal from eachother so much anyway....

Its the story lines that differ and make it harder for me to read. Its the same with manga, there are some I can read and some I can't. It just happens more often then not with American, but it might also be the fact that most of what I read in the way of manga is usually yaoi, shonen-ai, and cute little love stories like W Juliet and Wild Act. I'm a hopeless romantic, who likes to see sexy guys kiss sexy guys (not to mention do naughty things to sexy guys xd ), and I'm darn proud of it.

I will admit that I do read a few like Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Immortal Rain, and Vampire Knight (but again while they have the action thing going there is also the falling in love part). The art might have a little bit to do with it too. Most of the art I've seen in American comics have girls that have no waist what-so-ever, a big butt, and even bigger boobs; all of which I try to avoid. I mean honest are the artists trying to model the female characters after Barbie who is importunately incorrect anyways? I'll make you a deal though, if I run across a Hellboy comic anywhere, I'll sit down and read it.

Cartoons from around the world use an idioticly idealistic form for their women... Though I think you might want to check this girl out... She's a fave of mine, from Marvel Comics. Judging by what you like, I think you should give this a try... It's off topic, I know, but I've gotten many anime gans into this... The art is unique compared to other American Comics for the first so many issues, got a nice subversive stories, and one of the man characters is, well, check it:

American Comics usually use the very thin big breasted sexist model... But Japan seems to go with the pure, innocent, child like one. Or the Femme Fatale... Point is, each part of the world has their cliches that annoy people. Sometimes the stereotypes are broken though. Look at Gertrude. She's a superhero, sexy, and kinda of on the heavier side.

The comic is called "Runaways". Look for volume one.

Ok, will do. I must also admit that I do read Buffy comics... I forgot about them up until just now.
