All women are thought of as delicate and beautiful creatures. These women of the geisha culture are said to be some of the most beautiful flowers that are present. They are passionate like the bonfires we spark in summer, but their beauty never burns away. Instead, it is as if the fire is renewing their eternal beauty and vitality. The women of this okiya are like Lotus Blossoms renewed by Fire. As you enter the Hinohasu Okiya, the layout seems quite similar to most. You take off your shoes and slide into the slippers provided. The downstairs contains the kitchen, the maids' quarters, as well as where the maiko sleep. There is the room where geisha can choose to take their tea and dine in, as well as two extra entertaining rooms for the purposes of honored guests that come over. As you walk up the stairs, you see five bedrooms where different geisha sleep, as well as the last one to the left where Mother sleeps. The head geisha sleeps in her own room, the room across from Mother's resting place. The other geisha are content to share the other four bedrooms provided. If you choose to walk outside, you will see a wooden pathway that leads to the telephone house. A receptionist is always there to take down the appointments of the geisha, as well as keep tabs on whether they are trying to sneak out inappropriately. Please don't post in okiya other than your own, unless you are granted a special invite from a geisha at that okiya. No maiko may invite another maiko to an okiya. Geisha may invite whomever they please. Keep all cybering and things PG-13+ out of this guild. Thank you!

Mother Profile: Character Name: Okaa-san Screen Name: Abi-lee Age: 39 Character description: Still fairly young, this Okaa-san was once a famous geisha known as Ichimiyo. She retired and opened her own okiya. Her long black hair is often pulled up into a bun and she loves dressing in her fine kimonos. She has a dog named Ichi (larger than many mothers have) that she recieved from her older sister Ichigiku upon retiring. She is very money-oriented, but chooses to be less cruel than many mothers are. She is well-respected in the community because she was the third generation in a line of talented geisha. Maid Profiles: 1. Kuran Aoiko -Your Screen Name: Aoiko Fey Kuran -Birthday (year optional): May 9th -Character Description/Personality (no more than 5 sentences, please!): Aoiko has a calming influence, like her name (Aoi is Japanese for Blue), though it can darken into a storm of black clouds when her slow temper is triggered. She generally seems to have an air of "interested in what you're saying, but I'm still halfway in clouds". She strives hard to become a geisha, and it has been her lifelong dream to have the worldly, yet otherworldly grace of these elegant mistresses of the arts. -Character Background (no more than 5 sentences, please!): Aoiko was destined to be a farmer's daughter, living high in the mountaintops, until the raiders came. Her father was killed, and her mother committed suicide soon after. Thus, Aoiko was sent to her mother's family, who all despised her for being a "farmer's daughter, yet share the blood of us city folk". When she turned 14, an arrangement was made that when she turned 15 she would be sent to the geisha as a new maid. Thus, she has arrived, and is a strong but lonely girl, pale as the moon with thick blue-black hair and startlingly pale blue eyes which seem to permanently have a far-off dreamer's shine... -Character Picture (Not required. SMALL picture or put a picture link. If it is an image here, though, its size must be approved by a crew member): -Favorite/Preferable element (Water, earth, wood, air, fire, metal): Air -Okiya/District Location Requested: Hinohasu Okiya -Okiya/Disctrict Location Assigned (leave blank): Hinohasu Okiya-Anything else: Aoiko is very shy and quiet. But she soon comes out of her shell if you are kind to her. Anyone who tries to take advantage though, will be met with resistance!

Definitions of the Okiya Mother, Geisha, Maiko, and Maids:
1.Okiya Mother: The Okiya Mother, or Okaa-san as you are REQUIRED to call her, is the head of the okiya. She paid for each maid, maiko, and geisha in this okiya. She is the head accountant and has the last word on everything that goes on in the okiya. Anyone who goes against her wishes may be thrown out of the okiya at a moment's notice. Don't disappoint her.
2. Geisha: Geisha are not prostitutes! In Japanese, "Gei" means "arts" and "sha" amounts to the "ist" of a profession (ex. Dentist, artist) which therefore makes a geisha an artist. What arts? A geisha is trained in the arts of dancing, singing, musical instruments, a variety of ceremonies, and conversation. They are expected to entertain at high-class parties as well as at public recitals. Geisha only have to answer to the Okiya Mother.
3. Maiko: Maiko are apprentice geisha. The word "maiko" translates closely to the term "dancing girls" and indeed they do dance, but their primary duty is to watch and learn from their elder "sister" geisha on how to behave and perform their arts. Maiko must do as the Okiya Mother and Geisha request. You are also expected to attend the Maiko Training School and take TWO classes
4. Maids: Maids are on the lowest end of the totem pole here. That means, you must do any request that the Okiya Mother, the Geisha, or the Maiko request. Of course, the maiko would be more sympathetic with you, since they themselves were maids first. So, you may even still be friends with some of them. Do your work and you will be rewarded.
Duties/Rules of Okiya Mother, Geisha, Maiko, and Maids:
Okiya Mother Duties: Accounting: You must do the accounting for the okiya. That means, keep up with the treasury. Most of your posts in the okiya should deal with encouraging the geisha, making sure the maiko are on track, and working the maids to the bone. After all, they are all here to make you money. From time to time, you may be asked by a crew member to tell a maid she has proven herself and is now ready to turn into a maiko. These are your duties.
Geisha Duties: Studies: Everything from shamisen to flower arranging, a geisha is expected to always be learning. They are artists, so be sure to show this throughout all of their actions. Housework: No geisha is too proper for cooking and cleaning. They will help out in their okiya. Entertainment: All customers are to be welcomed and made to feel at home. Discussion, humor, singing, dancing, and helping to serve food are all proper ways for a geisha to entertain a patron. Geisha are not expected to bring the tray in, but to call for the maids to get the food. Men are not allowed to pour their own drinks, so a geisha must pour it for them. Okiya Etiquette: Just as you would not enter another person's home without permission, no geisha may enter an okiya that is not their own without a special invite. If this happens, the geisha will be put on probation and will not receive payments or patron points for that week she is on probation. If a geisha's maiko enters another's okiya, the geisha will be punished as well. So please, keep your maiko in line. Her actions reflect upon you.
Maiko Duties: Apprenticeship: A maiko is expected to call her sister Onee-chan, which means Older Sister. You must watch your geisha carefully. If you misbehave, your geisha will be punished as well. She may decide to drop you at any time, if this happens. Dropped maiko will have to start from scratch with patron counts. Studies: Everything from shamisen to flower arranging, a geisha is expected to always be learning, so a maiko is in training for this. You are also expected to attend the Maiko Training School and take TWO classes Housework: No maiko is too proper for cooking and cleaning. They will help out in their okiya. You are more like maids, who are training to become geisha. Though your studies are tough, you are expected to do all that is in your power for the geisha in your okiya. You will be the ones to help clean up after them. They are very messy and you are expected to learn their ways, as well as clean them up. Entertainment: All customers are to be welcomed and made to feel at home. Discussion, humor, singing, dancing, and helping to serve food are all proper ways for a geisha to entertain a patron. Maiko are expected to help out, even if it means bringing over trays of food to the patron. Men are not allowed to pour their own drinks, so a maiko must help pour it for them. Okiya Etiquette: Just as you would not enter another person's home without permission, no maiko may enter an okiya that is not their own without a special invite...from a geisha only. If this happens, the maiko will be put on probation and will not receive payments or patron points for that week she is on probation. Your Onee-chan will be put on probation, as well. If you don't want to be dropped from apprenticeship, I would expect you to behave. Encouragement: You will be assigned a maiko, to whom you will be responsible pm'ing when she does not post. If the maiko resigns her position in a pm to you, alert a crew member immediately through a pm. We need to keep the profiles up to date and, if a maiko resigns, then we need to take that profile down.
Maid Duties: Posts: Number your posts, so that we can see how many you have Cleaning and Errands: Clean your okiya. This is what the majority of your posts should pertain to. When the Okiya Mother, a Geisha or a Maiko asks you to do something, ask no questions and do as you are told. You are a lowly maid who has just joined the okiya. Respect them, because all three positions are over you. Though, report any abuse that happens to your Okiya Mother or Head Geisha.

Sayoko bustled happily, doing some of the maid's jobs of cleaning up. She always wanted to help out were she could, especially in her new Okiya. Her petite form moved gracefully through the halls as she looked for some other duties to help with. Her theory was that the quicker chores were done, the more learning one could do. The more learning that took place, the happier the geisha became. And Sayoko was very happy at the moment...

Post 1 Saya Ai slipped her feet out of her wooden sandals and into the slippers provided at the entrance to her assigned Okiya. After a moment of hesitation she stepped inside and into the warmth of her new home. The okiya was quiet, and felt empty, as if she was the only one present, so she set about exploring, getting to know her surroundings. It was only a moment before she found a sliding door that belonged to a supply closet. Tying her sleeves up above her elbows she took a bucket and a floor brush and set about finding a water source so that she could begin her duties.

1. Keiko rose early in the morning, and got to her cleaning. She was determined to be a geisha, and was prepared to do anything to get to that rank. She smiled, and went to washing up some laundry for the next day.

Post 2 Saya hummed a tune to herself as she scrubbed the wood flooring, her kimono was tied up above her knees to keep it from getting too drity, and her hair, which had been done nicely when she began her chores, had begun to come loose from its bun. She smiled to herself as her tune halted, her hands working quickly as she plunged the floor scrubber into the bucket of water. She would become a Geisha, and she would live to bring her mother pride and honor. She turned bck to humming, slowly beginning to sing, her voice soft and melodious.
"Oh, across the gently rolling hills, Beyond the high mountain peeks. Along the shores of distant seas, There's something my heart seeks.
But there's no peace in wandering, The road's not meant for rest. And footsore fools will never know, What home might suit them best."
She paused as she once again wet her scrub brush, then continued on, scrubbing with her right hand as she supported herself on her left.
"But oh, the things that I have seen, The secret paths I have trod. The hidden corners of the world, Known to none, but me and God.
Yes the world was meant for knowing, And feet were meant to roam. But one who's always going, Will never find a home."
She switched hands as her right one became tired, inhaling to finish the final cord of her song.
"Oh where's the love finds me? The voice that calls me back? And where's the string that binds me? And what's the root I lack?"
She finished the song as she finished the hallway she was working on, throwing her scrub brush into the bucket of cool water, and standing. She untied her kimono bottom, allowing it to fall to her ankles, and then bent down to pick up the bucket, ready to move on to her next task.

Sayoko was arranging some flowers in the hallway when she heard a very lovely tune. She wandered out to see some one unfamiliar just finish scrubbing the floor. When the girl had finished, Sayoko smiled and said, "You're one of the new maids, Saya, right? You sing beautifully."

Post 3 Saya's cheeks tinted pink and she smiled as she bowed her head in respect.
"Thank you very much," she said, "It seems that you know my name, and yet I haven't a clue of what yours could be."
She moved the bucket to be held in front of her in both hands, and felt a bit of it slosh onto her kimono and soak through. This served to make her blush a much darker crimson. Her eyes were somewhat downcast, she was modest in all aspects, and didn't know where she stood with this other girl. She could be a fellow maid, but she was pretty enough to be a Maiko. Her hands tightened nervously around her bucket's handle, but her smile never faltered. She did love to meet people.

"Oh, forgive me," Sayoko said with a quick bow. "I am Sayoko, one of the head geisha." The geisha smiled warmly, taking note of the maid's nervousness. "I'm sure you will do fine here. Please let me know if there is anything I may do to help you."
