Lest we forget
So my subject says it all. Do you work with people who have disabilities as a support? Are you a disability advocate? What about being a student in the field of disabilities?
I am studying right now in the field of developmental disabilities in order to become a support worker. Right now, I am leaning towards working with seniors because they loose some of their cognitive functions and need to have support in order to gain them back or to prevent the losses of the functions in the first place. I may also though, work with youth. I am still undecided as I have three practicums coming up. My first one in January will be in a nursing home.
November 11, 2008. Take one minute at 11:00am. Remember our veterans. Remember those currently in service. Remember our militaries, whether or not you support what they're doing.

I don't work with disabled people, nor am I student. I am mostly someone who tries to raise awareness about the things that cause disability, and how little money is spent trying to find cures for them.

Do you mind me asking how you get through the day Cohcho? I think seeing children that are ill every day would soon bring me down and make me want to quit sad

Mandra -wow that is so cool! you have a gift, you truly do. My dad and sister sort of have the same kind of gift. they're not necessarily advocates but they have worked with the mentally disabled and they just know how to do it, you know what I mean? they truly have THE GIFT.
Cohcho - wow you have the gift also! That's amazing, what is it like working there?
As for me, I just try to raise awareness from my computer and in real life. I'll wear yellow or purple or whatever color out when it's an awareness week or month ...
I also run a thread for chronic illness awareness.
My friends and I on facebook are also a tight-knit community of "spoonies"

I'm on a intergration course at college for people who have special needs. It covers a wide spectrum from minor needs (eg Aspergers.) To the more severe (eg Downs.)
