Whether you agree or disagree with global warming or not, our environment is definitely facing a crisis. Our biological diversity is weakening, our oceans are turning into acid, our coral reefs are dying, our species are going extinct, we are facing overextinction, we are running out of useable soil, etc, etc. We're in trouble. Quote from the UK Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/oct/29/climatechange-endangeredhabitats Quote: The problem is also getting worse as populations and consumption keep growing faster than technology finds new ways of expanding what can be produced from the natural world. This had led the report to predict that by 2030, if nothing changes, mankind would need two planets to sustain its lifestyle. "The recent downturn in the global economy is a stark reminder of the consequences of living beyond our means," says James Leape, WWF International's director general. "But the possibility of financial recession pales in comparison to the looming ecological credit crunch." 2030. We NEED a change. Greed is destroying our planet because everyone cares more about how much play money they have in their hands then the future of the environment. Communism will bring about sustainability and cut rampant consumerism and financial gluttony.

Without greed as a motivation, there would be no reason to use "cheaper" methods of energy. Actually, I would think solar and wind would be "cheaper" to produce, but you can't sell sunlight or wind like you can sell oil.
Capitalism is destroying not only our humanity, but the very planet.

Indeed. Capitalism and greed go against evolution and survival of the species--what other species on earth would destroy its habitat for personal gain? It's a true sin if there ever was one. And yet here we are, doing it every day with every dollar.
If nothing can convince people to want communism, it should be the fact that we are ******** otherwise.

Who says we'd have to give up our lives and our friends?
Well, then again, unless you're talking about the superficial, material 'lives' and money 'friends'...

Poison the Dreamer Who says we'd have to give up our lives and our friends? Well, then again, unless you're talking about the superficial, material 'lives' and money 'friends'... It was sarcasm directed at what the average capitalist thinks communism means. I'm really just for the removal of money and all that comes with it- Namely, control and power for small groups. You can still have your property, individuality, friends, religion, whatever.

Wait I thought the average capitalist thought communism meant rasing taxes and turning their children gay, or am I getting my propaganda mixed up?
But this is just disgusting, the rapid consumerism that people have so balantly embraced is just a slap to the face of logic. It gets me wondering if any human wants to use the natural rescources in a pragmatic manner. To hell with long term beneifitsand values for we will live short lives of great lives of consumption. And then of course there's the pollution generated by this life of consumerism, and the general apathy of the disillusioned masses. It's a violation of property rights when you throw garbage onto someone's front lawn, as well it should be. But if a person allows a particulate matter to escape from his factory smokestack five miles away so that it leaves a layer of soot on your house and causes your lungs to become of the same color as the soot, this defended by both the state and the populace as a part of their lifestyle and how dare criticize it! Might as well say it's bad if you kill one person but if you kill hundreds you will have the protection of the goverment from any who might want to defend themselves from you. It just drive me insane sometimes.

A question. How did the Soviets stack up envirmentally against the United States during the Cold War. Didn't they drain a good portion of the Aral Sea? And what about the Chinese?

When you said that if left unchecked man would need another planet by 2030, it reminds me of the plot from Wall-e, how the capatilists get on there massive spaceships and blast away from a planet drained of every drop of life for atleast 700 years, mabey in reaility it could be far longer if not permanent. But what if this movie was an accurate time-line of how capatilism destroys the planet based on highly accurate graphs and models and readings and all kinds of stuff. I agree commrades it is time for change with the enviornmet in mind every step of the way.
