Sorpresa: *Sniffing the ground she tried to pick up the trail she had left when she had gone in this direction. Due to rain all paw prints and smells had been washed away. Now that the rain had stopped the area around her smelled fresh and clean.* "I am so lost." *She sighed, looking around. This was not her home, far from it. The temperature was cooler, there was no rainforest to be seen, everything was different.

It had all started when she was ordered to patrol the very edge of her pack's territory. She had been scouting alone when a blood smell lured her away from the jungle. She discovered a recent kill and grew wary at the large bite marks and strange smell on the dead animal. ( Bear ) Suddenly a large hairy creature taller than her with huge fangs and black claws came charging at her. Perhaps it had thought she was trying to steal it's food? Whatever the reason, being alone she was in no position to fight something bigger than her and so she tucked tail and ran.

It had chased her in the wrong direction, she had managed to get away thanks to a rain storm that washed her scent away so that it couldn't track her, she kept running until the rain stopped but now she was lost.* "What am I going to do?" *She asked herself. She ears flipped back against her head, she was nervous. Without her pack anything could come around to kill her.* "Arrrr..." *She growled at the thought.*

He hadn't been in the neutral territory for very long, but he was already more familiar with the southern borders. Even now, he was enjoying the shift in territory. Prey was more abundant here, it seemed, and water was ready and drinkable.

This was good, due to more unfortunate changes in his body.

He could fight and move swiftly enough with his wooden leg replacement. Hunting, on the other hand, was a little more difficult. He had to move more slowly and more carefully to keep his bum leg from frightening off the lesser creatures, but even then it was still a challenge. This showed clearly due to his withering frame. He was losing weight and longed for a good meal.

He just had to wait for an animal stupid and naive enough to ignore his trundling through the forest.

And he suddenly heard a noise...

He sniffed the air to pin her scent. It was there, though the smell of damp earth threatened to hide her from him. Female helix, it smelled like.

He moved as slowly and as silently as he could, but there was still a soft "whumph" when his wooden leg hit the moist earth.

"Whot we got 'ere, 'eh?" He called out as the green and blue gamma came into view. "Y'lookin' a bit lost, lass." Unfortunately, he didn't detect the hint of jungle scent on her until he was close. His single eye studied her closely. She didn't look that familiar and hopefully she did not recognize him. He had half a mind to flee, just in the off chance that she did...

But wouldn't that make him a bit more suspicious?

Sorpresa: *A sound got her attention. A brown helix came into view. He was different from anyone she had ever seen. She smiled at him in relief, having never heard of the rumors that surrounded this particular helix. She had just joined a southern pack a couple weeks ago. She didn't know him but she was sure glad to see him! This helix might know his way around here and point her in the right direction. His dark blue eye held suspicion for some reason. Did he think she was going to hurt him? Good heavens NO! Right now, she needed him!! She couldn't blame him for being wary though, she was a stranger and he had surely been through some tough times what with his wooden leg and eye patch. She was fascinated by him. There weren't many helixes she knew that wore cloth of any type, and jewelry. Was he wealthy? She also admired him for his strength, she had never known a helix that could loose a leg, make another for himself and live without a pack to hunt for him. At least she didn't smell any others around. Now that she looked at him though, he did look a bit skinny. Maybe she could help him?

If she knew anything about males though it was that they didn't like outright charity and hated pity so she didn't pity him, he looked like he was doing just fine on his own. To help him she had to be crafty about it. It had to look like a stroke of luck that just happened. Besides, he was the one helping her.

"I am lost, I was chased away from my territory. Would you happen to know which way south is?" She asked hopefully. Her tummy rumbled suddenly, she was hungry as well as lost. She gave him an embarrassed look, hoping he hadn't heard somehow. "Also would you mind helping with a quick hunt before I leave? Your bigger and stronger than me, so I could chase the prey to you and you could bring it down while I catch up to help kill it." She suggested, she couldn't bring down big prey on her own. She wanted more than a tiny snack and she bet there were deer around here. "I won't be able to eat it all...maybe if your hungry you can help me eat it. It's only fair if you helped me catch something." She offered. "Please? Help a girl out?" She asked, cocking her head to one side.

What with the way she responded to his presence, she couldn't of known about him...

So he was fine with that. He just wouldn't go all the way to the southern borders. He couldn't very well leave her all alone here. He might of been a treacherous fellow, but there was some sense of pride in himself. He could help the lass and...

Hunt?

She wanted his help finding home and hunting? Well... If she scared the food his way, he could certainly take it down.

"Righ' y'are, lass. I c'n certainly 'elp ya." He replied and gave her an easy and somewhat charming grin. "South a'ways, that's an easy one. Fond o' th' warmth, meself. Anyways, I'll stay down wind 'n ya scare 'em my way, we c'n 'ave a feast t'night."

Sorpresa: *She licked her chops in anticipation.* "Thanks! I'll be right back." She promised, moving off silently to find that prey smell nearby. Something alive and furry. Hopefully something not too far away, she had said a quick hunt.*

*Nose to the ground she sniffed. It wasn't as easy to track down a meal smelling dirt and tiny plants instead of scent-catching, thorn-tugging leafs and ferns in the jungle. She sneezed at one point, turning her head sharply to the side. Opening her eyes she found bunny tracks in the mud and followed them until it led her to a quiet bundle of berry bushes. The rabbit escaped down a hole while a doe nibbled on the berries, sweet grasses and tree bark. Crouching down she circled around the deer being careful to stay hidden and praying the wind wouldn't carry her scent right to her prey. It was easier with jungle foliage to hide her. Out here in this forest she didn't blend in so well. She just managed to get in the right position when her paw broke a small twig beneath it's weight. She flinched at her clumsy mistake.

Large ears perked up instantly and with a flash of it's fluffy white tail the creature was bounding away. Unprepared Sorpresa leaped to her feet and ran full throttle to catch up. Her chase started off frantic for speed but soon became calculated as she got closer. When the deer tried turning she would snap at it until it went back in the right direction, toward her hidden helper. She snarled and panted as she chased, to keep it distracted and running fast enough that it wouldn't be looking where it's going, much less notice the trap ahead of her.

The brown helix found himself licking his chops as he waited for the imagined prey to charge forth. It would be delicious, that he was sure of. It would cause the hunger pangs in his stomach to fade away and he would be restored to his former glory!

He was lost in thought when he was startled by the sound of something charging his way. It was that fabled meal and he was ready. It was a doe, by the scent wafting towards him on the air.

She came closer...

And closer...

Verdauga launched out from his hiding place and slammed into her from the side. He wrapped his hungry maw around her neck and sank his sharp teeth into the fresh, juicy meal that would fill both he and the stranger. She bleated and kicked, but ultimately went down with ease, after dragging her attacker several paces.

Sorpresa: *smelling blood she yipped gleefully at their success. "Great catch!" A graceful leap onto the doe's hindquarters made sure it stumbled off it's hooved feet and fell to the ground, her helper's teeth in her neck. Yes! Dinner is served! She tail coiled in excitement over her back as she clamped down on one of the doe's back legs, the one kicking against the ground a little. She held the leg firmly, making sure the animal would not be able to leap to her feet and try to escape. She waited for patiently for it to suffocate and die so they could share this meal.*

Fortunately the death of the doe didn't take very long. She lay limp in the grasp of both Sorpresa and Verdauga.

"Fin'lly, somethin' tae eat." He grunted in approval after he dropped the limp creature's neck. Her head fell to the ground and he lipped his bloodied, brown maw. To him, this was a feast and the first one in a long while, since his leg had been replaced.

"Y'did good scarin' 'er, lass." He complimented as he stepped back to allow the female first choice in their kill.

Sorpresa: "Thank you!" *She chose the back end, hind legs, and the muscles around it, leaving the delicacies of the insides and the front half to him. Her stomach hungered for solid meat, not the nutritious but sometimes soft organs. She felt happy to finally cure the hunger pains. She didn't want to travel home on an empty stomach and thanks to this doe there was plenty of meat to share between them.*

He watched her for a moment with his single, deep blue eye. She seemed to be really enjoying the meat this doe had to offer and he was thankful that she left the more nutritious organs for him, as he certainly needed it.

He tore into the stomach of the deceased doe and scarfed down what he could a little more hastily than he intended, but he was really hungry. He needed the food and there it was, splayed out before him. He couldn't help but to indulge himself...

"Ah, nice plump 'un y'got." He mused in a slightly cheerful tone.

Sorpresa: *Noticing how fast and frantic he was eating she cracked open a leg bone to lick at the tasty marrow inside, letting him eat. He was hungrier than her it seemed, not surprising when he had looked skinny before. There was plenty here to go around, besides it felt good to bite on something hard. Reminded her of her teething days as a pup and marrow always tasted good. She was happy.*

He sat back on his haunches and wrapped his tongue about his maw. He had eaten a little too much a little too fast and his stomach was starting to ache...

But it was a pleasant ache. He was full for the first time in days and as much as he liked to think it was something he had accomplished, he had to admit that this female had helped him to it and thanks was in order.

"Ach, that was mighty good, aye?" He yawned contently as he watched Sorpresa gnaw on a leg bone. He had half a mind to do the same to exercise his jaws.

"Name's Verdauga, lass. Y'self?"

Sorpresa: "Quite a good meal indeed." She agreed, finishing up the last good bits of muscle from the back. She smiled at him. "Pleasure to meet you, my name is Sorpresa." She introduced herself gladly. Ahhh it felt so good, the meat was packed into her stomach enough that she would be full the entire trip home. So hopefully if the bear stayed away she wouldn't have to stop for anything. She couldn't be too far from her jungle could she? She was saddened at the thought of parting with her new friend, he was good company! "Which way was south now?" She asked, embarrassed that she had to repeat the question. The hunt had been such a thrill that she was all turned around again.

"Sorpresa, eh? Rather pretty, fittin' for a lass like you." He complimented and gave her a broad with with his blue eye. His spirits were much higher now that his stomach was full and the sense of danger he felt from being around a southerner had waned. His tail shifted in a slight wag and his flopped, pierced ears were perked as high as the rings would allow.

He stood on all fours and nodded his head in the direction from where he had come when fleeing the southern territory. "On yonder. I'c'n come with ya as far as th' border, aye?"

Sorpresa: *That perked her right up. There was her chance to travel with him a little more. "Sure!" She started heading the direction he indicated, a relaxed walk. She hoped scavengers would come for the carcass and not bother them any. She didn't need that bear sniffing around them anymore. "So what's life like here? I haven't been out of my jungle much." She commented to start up a pleasant conversation*
