Hey there! I have a big question. I stumbled across instructions for getting a Cinquedea before you even start the main quest series. According to the guide, getting the Cinquedea (and thus Steal Ability) allows you to get the coveted Steal Weapon ability right at the start of the game, instead of well into the game.

It seems to me that this constitutes power-gaming in a major way, and could actually break the game and remove any sense of fun or accomplishment. However, I don't want to miss out on a bunch of items and abilities on the way! Does anyone know if it's *essential* to do this strategy in order to get 100% on items?

On a side note, I am never happy when I try to power-game. Is it possible to complete the game without worrying too much about which characters you use, and how you level them? I'm far more comfortable going "Oh, Hunters are cool!" and then leveling up a character as a hunter, and formulating strategies to use him properly, than I am creating a whole program of "Level as Fighter for 10 levels, then Hunter for 10, then Archer for 5, then Ninja for 10," or something of this nature. Laguz

In other words, do I really have to do such things as make sure I don't level a character too many times as one class? That could make the game a drudgery and misery, rather than a joy! I do want to get 100% items, monsters, and blue magic, but micromanaging my character's stats and levelups could get really annoying.

I apologize if these questions have been answered elsewhere, and I appreciate your time and assistance! 4laugh

Cheers!

I didn't do it and I enjoyed the game just as well. You get the Cinquedea later in the game anyway. I did miss out on the Materia Blade, I think. So I can't get everything. I do have a friend lending it to me thankfully.

Don't even worry about Power Play. If you haven't seen the game through to the end, don't try. Enjoy your first play through, then worry about statistics. 'Tis what I did. :3

Don't kill yourself trying, but you do have to hurry with the Blue Mage or you'll miss out on certain blue mage abilities. And from what I understand, you can miss out on an essential weapon too. So be careful.

Here's what you have to worry about for blue mage:
Goblin Punch - You can only find Goblins on missions, so get it ASAP! Otherwise, I hope you have a friend. Then you can get it from the Paladin in "The Dark Blade" mission.

Dragon Force - You can only learn it from Thunderdrakes which only appear in missions! Learn ASAP!

I think there's one more, but I don't quite remember it. XP

For the Weapon:
Materia Blade, it's a hidden weapon on the Mog Knight. Just keep stealing weapons from it until you get it.

Ohh! I forgot the monsters. Many monsters stop showing up after a while, so if you want to get them all, you need a hunter with capture very early on. XP Sadly, my catching skills are terrible...so my Morpher sucks. Sadly, I have little information on catching monsters, but alas! Gamefaqs knows all. Monster Capturing Guide!

I hope this helps! And remember! I'm always ready to help anyone with questions! biggrin

Thanks! That does help! I'll keep my main file for an honest-to-goodness playthrough, where I just relax and enjoy it. Then, after I finish, I'll play again using all the tricks and tips to max out my file wink

Marth-chan has things right. However, I feel as though I must add the following:

Even though goblins do go extinct, you can still get the Goblin punch ability at pretty much any time, as long as you can link with a friend and do the "Newbie Hunt" competitive mission. There's an easy way of getting 2 of your humans to learn it if your friend sends at least 1 beastmaster and a juggler/time mage. 3nodding

The Zeus Mace can be an item that you can completely miss so you need to either get it from the trade items at any shop after you link or, place the lands in certain places (gameFAQs has the info) or just steal it from a certain unit as well. Sorry but I forgot which units has that and in which mission... sweatdrop
