Chapter Nine
Narrator: The Alpha Sector: A large group of rebels who’s primary focus was on liberating Empire slaves. Or so that’s what they will tell you.
Over the years they have raided our mines and outposts, killing our troops and providing refuge for those who they claim we imprisoned by forcing them to work. They have been a nusience really, but have been unable to cause any major damage to our cities.
Occasinaly they will steal a Cristalian…what they use it for we are unsure because they do not rely on its energies for power. It is possible they used them for study to try and revive the old ways.
We have worked hard to abolish the ancients and their blasphemies of spirits and gods and magics, those demons who can spurt fire from their hands and control the elements are all nearly extinct.
Mages.
They wreack havoc, claming to be greater then those of us who are “ungifted”
And yet, we still rely on magic to power our cities and keep our empire strong. But this power is controllable. Critalians: stones forged from pure energy building up and solidifying. The largest one found was the size of a mans fist and contained enough energy to power all of Dagon for a year.
Scar: We are all aware of this, Cain. Yet you still have not explained why you attacked an enemy base without authorization from the concil!
Cain (ie caped man): I wouldn’t have been given authorization!
Scar: because you were chasing a weak lead!!
Cain: HA! That is where you are wrong! The raid on the base was successful in more ways then one. First off, the rebels are now disposed of. We took care of their main outpost, sending all other aplha-sector operations to flee to the outlands. Secondly, the presence of what they call the Stone was confirmed.
A slender women with long blonde hair and a hood covering her eyes by the name of Saige speaks:
Saige: Confirmed but not found.
Cain: But we know the stone exists! A piece of magic so powerful it could expand our Empire- abolish the outlands completely! Restart the world outside the sphere-
A fat man wearing heavy amour stands, slamming his hands on the table:
Fat Man: PROPSTROUS! No magic could restart the world! YOU SHOULD BE SHOT FOR YOUR LIES!
The others all shout agreements. All but one. A dark man sitting at the head of the table. He wears the crest of Dagon on his brest. He stares at Cain for a moment before raising his hand for silence. Instantly the room is quiet. (for now his name will be Z)
Z: Cain of Urbane, you speak of this….Stone very highly. From what we know of magic, there are nine types of energies: (Fire, Water, Rock, Grass, Metal, Air, Sky, Light, and Dark). Critalians have been found in all types of these energies, none with the proper stats to rebuild the outlands. We have tried, and faild. Magic is a threat which we are abolishing, so why should we be chasing after it?
Cain: With all due respect sir, we are abolishing magic from people. We still use these Critalians to our advantage.
Z Nods and waits for Cain to continue
Cain: The nine energies you speak of are what mages would have called elements. Each being something they have a link to and can control, how they do this we know not. But there are two more energies which have never been spoken of before.
Saige: Life and death. Magic is something we can..control. Water Mages have the ability to control mositure, bending and shaping it to their will, the same goes for other mages and their corresponding energies. Life is also something we can control.
Scar: You mean to tell me there are mages which can create life from nothing! HA!
Saige: No. Life magic is rare. It has only ever occurred once in the last decade or so. Human beings with the ability to take what is dead or wounded and heal it.
Fat Man: BWHAHAHA. A healer! That is rich.
Cain glares at him: You should do your research before you speak.
Fat man opens his mouth to reply but Z raises his had to silence him.
Z: Continue Saige, what of this death?
Saige: heh. Death magic. The first to be abolished hundreds of years ago. People who could animate the dead-
Man with flaming red hair finishes her sentence: Necromancers.
Saige: percicly.
Cain: Death magic was taken care of long before the empire. Killed off by other mages. Life magic, however can not be destroyed… it develops in people unlike other magic’s which are born into people. Its apperaces have been rare because it is belived that one has to be born of pure heart and maintain it all through their life. Having a connection to the living….
Scar: psssh.
Cain: I belive that this Critalian, this Stone, is made of Life magic. Possibly the largest and maybe last of its kind.
There is a long silence.
Z: I see you have done your research. Very well.
Cain: Thank you Sir.
Z: The council is dismissed.
Everyone but Cain and Saige leave.
Saige: Do you belive it can be done?
Cain walks over to her and removes her hood
Cain: Of course.
Saige looks up and smiles wickedly, her eyes are a blood red.
END VOLUME ONE
Side Notes: The Empire
The Emprie Consists of Seven colossal cities where the human population lives. (think Final fantasy 12 ish cities…minues the weird creatures). Their main goal is to clense the land of all magic users, seeing them as monstors and demons. However, they still rely on magic in the form of crystals or stones which power their cities.
There are Seven major cities all built within the Sphere, an enclosed area where the earth is still “healthy”. Outside the sphere is whats left of the world after global warming, wars, explosions all that jazz. Basically a wasteland where those who are banished from the Sphere live. The emprie has drained the outland of all their resources to build and power their cities. They look towards ancient magics to try and restart the wastelands so that they can expand and so that they have a fresh supply of necessary resources.
The Seven Cities and City heads are:
Dagon- governed by ‘Z’
Dagon is the largest city and is the capital of the Empire. The ruler is Z, who is also head of the concil. A Generally calm man who is willing to kill anyone who gets in his way. He dresses in all black with the red dragon crest of Dagon embroderd on his chest.
Urbane- governd by Cain
Urbane is where the Empires military is Centerd. The general, Cain, is the most down to earth of the Empire. He has messy brown hair and usualy wears Empire armor with a flowing cape.
Azure- Governed by Saige
The archives are located in Azures library. Only government officals are allowed entrances as it is where all the records and documents from the past are kept. Nearly all of these documents are books and scrolls which were stolen from the mages when the emprie destroyed their shrines and cities. Saige is a slender and graceful women with long blonde hair. She wears deep hoods to cover her eyes.
Lilathu- Governed by Scar
A dark city located close to the boarder of the sphere and the outlands. The empires secret military is trained and housed here. Their duty is to defend the boarder of the Sphere from any Outland attacks.
???- Governed by Biren (fat man)
A dirty dusty city set in the mountains where the mines are located. All precious metals and Critalians are dug up and prepared here before being shipped off to other cities within the sphere and an unknown location outside the sphere.
????- Governed by Siren.
Siren in a tall slender man with flaming red hair and rust colored eyes. He governs over the city ???? Which is the empires communications center.
