I have no idea where I found this, but it does not belong to me. Opinions?

Wow, how true. I'd like to find who made it. I'll take a look around and report later.

If these are the directives set forth by Salazar Slytherin himself, they'd be rather old. What would it be again? Over a thousand, right? *was never too fond of history* But you can still find them quite relative to this day.
Though I'm not too sure how I feel about 9, 10, and 11. Sounds a bit self-serving of ol' Slytherin, if you ask me. wink

Dorian Snape-Ellis... it just occured to me that this person is probaby distantly related to Severus. Man, I'm not really observant.

Hmmm...I think they're interesting, but not exactly spot-on. A Slytherin is primarily in it for thsemselves - loyalty to purpose and the House and all is admirable and important, but only if it furthers personal goals. Purebloods are elitist because they believe that they are superior and because it puts them as people (and, by extension, as families) in a position of power. They are not in a position of power because they are elitists. See? So, while I think this is a nice starting point, there are certainly some discrepancies and fallacies there.

I think certain directives are really interesting and maybe should be put under some discussion. I mean, it's true, it's been said numerous times that Slytherins are always trying to better themselves and put themselves ahead of the game, but this seems to be saying they put their House, kin and kith ahead of themselves. Was Salazar was a competitive man? That might explain why he said to put the house in front of ones own interests. He probably wanted his house to win the house cup every single year. razz

Oooh, true! But after Hogwarts, Slytherins would probably be encouraged to strike out by themselves. I mean, I'm sure they'd be encourage to make connections and all that, but it'd still be every man for himself for the most part, wouldn't it?

People's connections to those high up make them more powerful, neh? I mean, no one wants to mess with the guy that's buddy buddy with the Minister of Magic or whatever. Having powerful ties makes people respect you more... and listen to you more. ^^ But, they do this to better themselves, and for no other reason. Well, they probably do become actual friends (maybe) with the powerful guys, but I believe that at the beginning it's ambition that makes Slytherins seek out those ties with the powerful dudes. Then, it's easier for them to get power.
