Van stood at the edge of the forest scanning the meadow with her piercing eyes. Could they hear her? She’d been as silent as possible. She was about to stand and walk off when she caught sight of a streak making its way across the field at the corner of her vision. Turning to confirm wouldn’t be wise, she’d be detected. Van gathered her legs underneath her, ready to sprint. The rabbit twitched its ears, it’d caught a sound in its sensitive ears. It turned to check, but it was too late to flee. Van’s claws dug into its flank, her teeth clamped on its neck, tearing into the skin—ending its life painlessly. Van licked the blood form her lips, warm and coppery. Rabbit wasn’t her favorite food, but it did her well. There wasn’t much game in this area, she had to move on tomorrow, or she’d starve this winter. Eager to begin her journey, Van tor into the rabbit, gulping it down in chunks.

Gwen examined the small expance of river before placing one rainbow cuffed paw onto its frozensurface and putting pressure on it. She continued on like this before reaching reliable land. Her leg warmers had snow clung to it but it was no point trying to shake them off, there would only be more later. Though she stopped when she came across a pup scarfing down a rabbit like she hadn't eaten in a while. It made her a little sad. Puppies were supposed to have atleast one parrent...not be out on their own and hunting....

Van finished the rabbit quickly, though she knew she'd be feeling horribly sick later for it. She grabbed a bone to take and stood defensively, growling. It was a beta helix, female. That's good, she thought. Adults didn't try to steal from puppies. After a thought or two Van put down the bone, pulling it back between her paws to make it clear that she wasn't offering it. Should I introduce myself?, she wondered. Couldn't hurt. So she reached out with her mind.
It didn't get far, not even five paces away this time. Guess it's being just as useless as ever. So she spoke instead. "Greetings?" It sounded very like a question. "I'm Vanguardian." No point in putting it off, really. Small talk was a waste of time and not entirely nessessary in these parts. Most helix were trustworthy to follow the unwritten codes of conduct.

Gwen's ears were forward with intrest at this pup. And her name had to be bigger than she was. But she smiled. "My names Gwendolyn. But I prefer Gwen." She took a small, non-threatening step forward. "How do you do?"
This pup had a vocabulary, that was for sure...because as far as she knew, never had a pup said 'Greetings' to her. It was alway 'Hi!' or 'Hey!' and never so formal. She found it interesting watching and listening to this puppy. Gwen now took no mind to the chilly wind blowing against her fur. She was all eyes and ears for this pup.

Vanguardian leaned forward as the adlut helix did. What now then? She didn't know how to act around a grown helix. Usually, she kept far away from them and went immediatly towards the pups when she came across a new pack. Then she made tracks when the adults noticed her and made attepmts to adopt her or something. This helix had a certain air about her. She wasn't an alpha, but her manner demanded restect of a kind.
What to say... Really, all she could do was sing. She sang beautifully. Sing of the moon and the night. Of the red colored moon that brought her the seemingly useless gift of a strong mind, of and the winged helix she dreamed of. Many things. She could make a small poem of this one too. Such peculiar colors she wore. Pleasant colors they were, bold and flowing into each other like the arcs in the sky.
Strange dance of colors Very like a dream of mine Whispers of the night.
Something to add to her life song. Again she tried to reach out with her mind, but once again failed. Guess she was down to words only. "Gwen," she began. "What kind of name is that?" Her own she didn't know the roots of, she had no parents to tell her. It was probably just made up anyway. "Why do you wear those colors on your legs?" They were amusing really.

Gwen had to ponder why she wore what she did, but she never knew why. They were always there, she couldn't recall how she came to be wearing them though. She had to admit, they made good accesories. Her red eyes looked at the pup and she shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not really sure why I wear them." She pondered a gain and replied. "I'mm not sure about that either." She looked at the slightly snow covered grass in wonder. How did she not know any thing about hersef?

Vanguardian laughed at this, though she wasn't sure why she found in humorous. Then, she did something she never did to an adult. She lifted her behind and lowered her head, then suddenly lunged at the beta helix, pawing her muzzle. It was a playful gesture. Though she'd never cared to socialize with adults, she somehow figured this one might be some fun.

Gwen was startled momentairilly by the pups sudden playfullness twards her, but quickly smiled. She bent her head down to the wiggling puppy and gave her a few good nudges with her nose and some licks on the head. Smiling and laughing she took a rainbow clawed paw and batted the pups ear. "Well, youre certainly a wiggly one once you come out of your shell Vanguardian."

Vanguardian didn't mind being licked as much as usual. This helix was pleasant company. Maybe she just never tried, prefering to be antisocial than to make ties. Van listened to Gwen's words. Well, she's always known her silent nature, but it did seem like curiosity began to govern most of the things she did recently. "Shell," she repeated. Not something she was familiar with, despite her extensive vocabulary. Most of it was descriptive words. "What's a shell?" Showing for once her true age. Just a pup.
