Anyone here Twilight fans? I'm just wondering, cuz it seems like everyone and their mother, brother, aunt, uncle, third cousin twice removed and deceased grandmother are into that series. I've never read the books- refuse to- but all my friends are obsessed with it, and I was dragged to see the movie today. It was tolerable. Mediocre at best, in my opinion. If you enjoyed it, great for you. It's just SO not my cup of tea.

I like them okay, except that the fourth book SUCKED. You see, the problem with me is that I like side characters much more than main characters. I couldn't care less about Bella and Edward, but Jasper and Jacob are totally cool. 3nodding
Anyway, since those books were written for a teenage girl fanbase, there's a lot of sappy romance in them. I, being a rabid slasher who can and will slash anything that breathes, was just like, "Okay, Bella/Edward? Uhm, no. How about...Edward/Jacob? Edward Jasper?" Both of these worked for me, so I continued to read the story and warp it to my perspectives. I'm like that.
I probably wouldn't read the books again, because I liked them the first time through, but that was because the character appeal was there. It was emotionally compelling that I finish the series. But they weren't really all that well written, so I probably wouldn't read them again.
On the subject of the movie, I found it okay, not as good as the books, though. The people they cast grew on me after a while.

I hate Twilight. 'Nuff said. Sure, I may not be giving it a "chance", but I can make my own decisions.

My brother and a friend of mine insisted that I read it. I borrowed all four books from my brother. They said I'd like it. My brother and his girlfriend made me see the movie too.
My opinion on all of it: It's utterly average, maybe even a little bit below mediocre. It's like something written by a fourteen year old girl who's full of hormones and has very little idea how the real world (or even basic human interaction) works, but really loves purple prose and Mary Sues. My cousin was an english lit major with very average writing skills, and if you locked him in a room with a lot of alcohol, some bad harlequin romance novels, Dracula, and a bucket of glitter, then told him to write a book series, you'd end up with something pretty similar to Twilight. Only with a much less annoying female lead, and less description-fapping over Edward. Possibly with more leather and piercings, but I digress.
I wouldn't mind that it's mediocre, most books in the library are mediocre, that's what sets the standard for average, but what really gets me stirred up is how it's so irrationally popular, while much better books are completely unknown. I've never understood why some things become popular and others don't. I blame it on the aforementioned utterly irrational fourteen year olds.
I'll stop ranting now.

Couldn't have said it better if I tried.
