The Story
Kai Nanami has devoted his life to science. Blinded by the prospect of scientific achievement, he is oblivious to the fact that his current experiment is purely malicious. However, he's about to meet someone who will change his view of things forever - Shinichiro Minato, a local math teacher. As the two begin to learn a bit more about each other, Shinichiro and Nanami begin to develop feelings for each other and Nanami's eyes begin to open to the horrors he's helped to unfold. Together, they'll try and start their lives anew. Can they do it? Can they escape the evils of Nanami's past?

Characters
Kai Nanami Job: Working for a science laborotory dealing in inhumane experiments involving children Personality: Despite his present experiment, Nanami is not the type of man to enjoy causing others pain. It was his day off but Nanami still had to fight the urge to go into work anyway. Outside of the lab, he had little interest in the world around him. Sure, people were interesting... and Nanami liked socializing... but he just couldn't connect with anyone outside of the lab. It was as if his whole world existed in that one facility... and apart from it... Nanami was lost. As he strolled down the street, Nanami glanced at his watch. It was nearly one; he'd usually eaten lunch by now. As he noted this, his stomach began to growl as if to further remind him that he had not yet eaten lunch. He chuckled awkwardly at his grumbling stomach and looked around for a place to eat. His eyes fell on an establishment across the street. He nodded to himself, as if to say, "Sure, this place looks good enough," and walked over to the building. Nanami stepped inside and walked up to the bar. The seats at the bar were nearly all taken, with the exception of only one, but Nanami felt it would be a waste to ask for a table. Smiling amiably, he turned to the man with the tousled black hair who was sitting beside the only empty seat, "Pardon me but is this seat taken?"

"Sure, no problem." Shinichiro didn't really care if someone sat next to him. It had been a rough day, he just wanted to have a good strong drink and something to eat to fill himself up. "Knock yourself out." Shinichiro smiled.

"Thank you," Nanami sat down. He sighed softly as he played with his hair, trying to "fix" it although it was typically such a mess that rearranging it into its original shape hardly constituted fixing anything. With his elbow leaning on the bar, Nanami placed his head in his hand. As he waited, he couldn't help glancing back at the man next to him. Biting at his lip as if he was trying to keep himself from saying anything, Nanami mumbled softly, "Ano... it's a little early to be drinking, don't you think? It's barely one." As his blue eyes met with the stranger's grey eyes, he looked away quickly, "Aah, I'm sorry. It's not my place to say anything about it."

"For most people it is pretty early to be drinking. On a rough day though 1 is just fine. And I don't mind, no need to apologize." Shinichiro finished his drink and ordered another.

"A rough day, huh?" Nanami smiled soothingly. "Feel like talking about it?" He turned to the man who was tending the bar and ordered a drink and some food. Nanami tapped his fingers rhythmically on the counter as he added, "My name is Kai Nanami, by the way. And yours is?"

"My name is Shinichiro Minato, its nice to meet you Kai-san. It was a bit rough to start it off, but I will get over it, it wasn't anything important." Shinichiro smiled. "Its always worth meeting someone new though. I work as a math teacher, you?"

"I work in a lab," Nanami stated. His drink arrived and Nanami started playing with the straw. "I don't get out as much as I should. Today's my day off and I found myself totally aimless without work to do. I guess that what they say about scientists is true. We're not social creatures," he laughed awkwardly. "You can call me Nanami, by the way, Minato-san; everyone does."

"Well then, just call me Shinichiro then Nanami. Its surprising that you don't get out all that much, a nice young attractive man like yourself is usually out and about dating all the time." Shinichiro looked puzzled by this. 'It really is very odd. Maybe its something about his personality I don't know just yet. Probably just a workaholic.'

"Some of the other workers at the lab tease me about it," Nanami blushed slightly. "They say science is my mistress. Even my boss says it." He picked at his food a bit and smiled. "But, you know, it's not so bad. I love my work, which is more than most people can say about their jobs, right?" Nanami sighed softly, "So, do you like your job, Shinichiro?"

"Yeah, I guess I do. I get to tease alot of my students as I teach them. Thats always fun. I'm a math teacher." Shinichiro gave Nanami a thumbs up. "I don't really get along with most of the other people at the school though, there is just something wrong about it." Shinichiro shrugged. "At least you have a mistress."

"It's not as good as it sounds, though," Nanami stated. "It takes alot of effort and science can't return my feelings. And my co-workers laugh behind my back that the fact that I can't find love outside of work means I'm still a child and I think my boss thinks the same but prefers that I have no interests outside of our experiments." Nanami picked up his chopsticks again and continued to eat.

"Have you ever considered working elsewhere? You could still work with science but have a more productive life outside of it at a different job. Ha, maybe you could try teaching." Shinichiro took a sip of his drink. "Who knows, maybe you could even find love that way."
