It's been a few days since his last meeting with his young niece, and usually, it'll be years more before he even thinks about asking for another. But this time, things are at a change for Blackbirch; he no longer feels the need to be left alone as much as he used to, and frankly, he rather enjoyed the couple's visit, however short it was. He almost feels a sense of guilt for requesting their presence for his own selfish needs instead of a simple and sincere gesture of welcome. He really aught to make up for it, or at least, that is his train of thought as he waited on his normal perch by the entrance of his hollow, ever so patiently with eyes on the horizon.
He had invited Fi and Fi alone to come visit him this calm night. The rumors that have been floating around the forest are becoming more and more unsettling, so he thought it would be nice for her to take a break from all her neighbors' nonsense and come by and talk.
After all, it's never too late to begin meddling within family affairs. Right?

It had seemed a little...odd, almost, that her Great Uncle wanted to see her, and only her. Fira was here now, too, after all! Didn't he want to meet her? Still, Fiercefire had accepted the invitation, and here she was. The Mist landed at the edge of her relative's territory and let out a hoot.

At the sound of the hoot, the Aberrant rumbled a reply of his own, welcoming and beckoning her to come by the hollow. Had he known about Fi's younger sibling he probably would have invited her as well, as he hadn't even met that particular youngin' just yet, but as it is, it'll most likely be another time for that meeting to come.
For now, he inched a few ways towards the hollow to make room for the Mist's entrance, and waited expectantly.

At the answering hoot, Fiercefire hopped off the branch and headed into the Builder's territory. Soon enough, she landed before him with a smile - polite, but bright eyes obviously curious. Not that there was anything wrong about a nice visit with family, but the sudden interest was a bit bemusing. After all, before the other day, she'd only seen him once in her entire life, and she'd been quite young at the time.
"Hello, Uncle! You wanted to see me?"

"Yes, yes," He began, leaving a small pause before starting up again. "Well, I realize this might be a little odd to you, since I haven't really been too terribly active with the family, but..."
He shuffled his wings a little, looking and feeling for the first time embarrassed. Perhaps she was actually busy for the night and he had called her at an inopportune time.
"I wanted to know how you were really doing," He sighed out. "I know these parts pretty well, and I can't ever recall a time when those ruddy owls ever accepted anything that was....well, different, to put it lightly."

"Ah, the neighbors." Fi's voice was distinctly annoyed. "I'm surprised you haven't had any visitors yet. Have you?" The Trapper bristled slightly at the thought - family was family, distant or not.
"Our Seeker is delightfully annoying," she said with a snort of derisive laughter. "He actually seems to think I'm scared of him. The Artisan is offended that I 'snubbed' him for another type, and someone decided to send me some new Medic under the impression that I was available."
"It's really all gotten sort of funny."

"Hah!" A harsh laugh abruptly tumbles out from the large aberrant. "Those bird brains know not to come into my territory with anything other than the intention of business, if they know what's best for them. I'd certainly give them more than a few choice words for their blatant ignorance and disrespect."
"Simply filthy, the lot of them," He scoffed. "You'd think they'd be able to find something better to do in their lives that doesn't involve sticking their beaks in each others' business. But, I suppose that's giving them too much credit."
He quickly preened down a few feathers that ruffled in his recollection of the vicinity's neighbors. "I am, however, glad to see that you aren't taking it personal. Seems like that sort of thing runs in the family." Giving her a beaky grin, he continues on. "Just be sure to give them enough spunk to leave you alone, and not to get you into trouble. How is that mate of yours taking it in?"

Fi chuckled at her relative's reaction to the possiblity of someone coming to bother him. If someone ever did, she wanted to be there to see it!
"Basil? He's, well..." Fiercefire hesitated, trying to figure out how to put it, and finally just settled for being relatively blunt, "He's not exactly the bravest person I've ever known." It was odd that she'd fallen in love with Basil, and she was well aware of it, but somehow she found his meek tendencies endearing where in anyone else they would have been annoying.
"He's alright, though." Or at least, she was under the impression that he was.

"That's not very surprising," Blackbirch admitted, "Not that he's not very brave, per say, but he's probably never experienced something like this before, being a pure wildtype and all. I can only assume his family is normal in the eyes of others, and has never seen an ounce of prejudice from the other side."
It's only to be expected to feel frightened or confused when experiencing something new, particularly a negative reaction from others. "From what I've seen, he seems like the sort who'd rather please than ruffle feathers. Give him some time."
"....and though I know we're not exactly close relatives, you'll always have a sanctuary in my territory if you want a little peace of mind." He was hesitant to offer, not sure how Fi would react towards it. He's sure that if she ever had any problems she'd go to her immediate family, such as her mom and her newly discovered [to him, anyways] sister.
But this was his way of opening up and becoming more apart of her life, and with hers, hopefully the rest of the family as well. He's been a hermit for too long, and would rather live the rest of his life surrounded by friends and family than alone.

Fiercefire nodded in silent agreement with her Uncle's observations on Basil. The Wildtype was, in many ways, quite her opposite. She couldn't care less if she ruffled feathers - well, most feathers anyway. There were obvious exceptions, of course.
"..oh." The Mist blinked in surprise at Blackbirch's offer, finding herself bemused once again. "Thank you."

Her response to Blackbirch's offer was nothing more than what he expected from her, and he was happy enough for that. At the very least, it meant that she wasn't rejecting the possibility.
"It is no problem. Sometimes all you need is a breath of fresh air and quiet to deal with them, and my territory is good for that sort of...relaxation, if you will. Nobody will bother you or your mate here."
"By the way," he began, mildly curious himself since he didn't think to ask the other night, "Does he have a good business going on, with his crafting? Or do you think he would benefit a ...partnership, if you will." He'd rather not even offer the position to Basil if his niece was uncomfortable with the idea.

Fi did appreciate the offer, as unexpected as it was - it was good to finally have family close by again, especially with the current state of the neighborhood.
"Well, he did," she answered, "But not so much anymore, with the way thigns have been lately." Curious, she tilted her head. "A partnership?"

He gave a grim nod at the news; it really was unfortunate that business was going down for the two of them. Blackbirch had been lucky that being an aberrant himself didn't slow down his own craft too much.
"I'm getting old," He stated, "It's been a long time since I've had an apprentice, and it looks like I may need to look for one again to pass on building techniques and to help with my own work. It's a shame that there aren't many who'd be interested in more useful ways to hone material, but luckily, I believe I've found at least one fellow who does." Ear tufts slightly lifted above his feathered scalp to show his excitement, however small gesture it was. "What do you think? Do you believe Basil has the ability to work under my wing, or would even want to?"

As Fi listened, her expression brightened. Her mate, apprenticed to one of her own family members? She certainly thought it was a fantastic idea! After all, Basil didn't exactly have any family of his own anymore - that much more of a reason for her to want him to get along with hers, or even be close to them.
"I think so." She nodded, clearly approving. "He's definitely interested in what you do, at the very least."

"Splendid." His ear tufts lowered in a relaxed state of being, obviously pleased with Fi's answer. It is not only good that she feels that Basil could definitely do the sort of work he needs as well as enjoy it, but she seemed happy enough with the idea of keeping the wildtype closer to their colorful family. It was a good direction to work from, that's for sure.
"I know of a few sentinels who been able to observe him in action, particularly a teacher..." He mused out loud. "I'll need to make sure that he has a strong work habit built up, but I'm sure that won't be a problem. Will he be too busy within the end of the week? I would like for him to come see me then, if it's alright with you."
