NOT BASHING. Just stating how I feel.

So..... so far, XIII looks, quite frankly, like s**t to me.

The characters are carbon copies of other characters.
I'm sorry, but, For the past 7 or so years the character designs have been unoriginal and bland. They've really just become carbon copies of themselves. I mean really, one of the 'new' characters for XII LOOKS JUST LIKE CLOUD AND ZACK'S LOVE CHILD. Its boring and very s**t like. The last good thing the character designer did was for FFX.
And even THAT was kinda slow.

The story looks like it'll be a mix of previous story lines. (Princess in hiding, anti-hero, blah, blah, blah)

The battle systems looks HIGHLY dumbed down and overly complex to some levels. I mean, LIVE ACTION TURN TABLES? Where we are going to have to plug in codes? Yeah, thats going to be a problem.

So, pretty much, unless Squenix can impress me, I say ******** XIII, I'll be happy with my XII and X.

Mm, "******** XIII" sounds just a little like bashing, but I guess sometimes you need to bash a little to get your point across.

Do you mean Lightning or Noct? Lightning, of course, is supposed to be like Cloud, though I can understand if you don't like that. Noct I think is the most interesting character I've seen in a long time. He's completely badass, but he's supposed to be shy; I think that sounds awesome. I wouldn't say any of the characters are carbon copies, but I completely agree with some of them being a bit bland. XII, especially. XIII, for the most part though, seems to be doing a lot better... to me, at least.

As for story, well, I wouldn't say we know the story yet. Rather, we know some of the themes. Themes are supposed to carry over; it's what makes Final Fantasy feel like a series (along with ATB and the blue textboxes, but now that those're gone, themes are what we're left with). The story can't be judged until you play through the whole game, I think. Plot twists, undercurrents, climax... Those are such incredibly important parts of the plot besides the premise.

I don't think we really know enough about the battle system to judge it yet. I didn't think I'd like Crisis Core's very much, but really I do, and I knew more about that than I know about XIII's now. I haven't heard anything about turntables or codes though; where did you get that? It does sound a little iffy...

So overall, I'm personally really hopeful for XIII. Of course I'm worried it's going to suck, but I'm generally optimistic, so I'm more excited than anxious.

Im personaly really looking forward to the game, I have a Ps3 and I think the graphics are going to be amazing in themselfs. Even tho the characters do looks a little alike there still totally diffrent people, and we will probaly become really attached to them just like any other one. I'm very interested in the battle system, I was also very skeptical about the battle system in Crisis Core but it grew on me, and after a while it becomes super easy, so even if this one is really weird when we get the hang of it we will probaly love it. So theres my say on it, I think it will come out and no one will b**** about it, and just talk about how amazing it is. blaugh

I had a chance to play beta to the japenese version, and, the controls made me go
"Wait..."

WAT?

I took some times getting used to, but, after a while, it became frustrating when trying to get things jussssst right. They told me they still need to tweak a TINY bit, but, the main thing for me was just the button mashing at certain parts.
Lightning looks JUST LIKE ANOTHER CHARACTER. Bonus if you know who I'm talking about. (LOEASY)
Its just that they took an existing character, and said 'turn into girl....perfect THIS BE A HERO-INE'

I used to LOVE FF for its orginality. ;3; Its all gone now.

BTW- THE MUSIC WAS BADASS. even if I hate on the game, I'm getting the soundtrack.

What?! You betaed? (Yeah, I guess you just said that.)

Ahhh, hopefully a little change will make a big difference, then... Nice to hear about the music, though!

Originality... Yeah, I haven't seen anything really revolutionary for a while now, and it is a bit disappointing, but I'm still trying to refrain from any negative judgment until I play it myself. As for Lightning specifically, well, looks aren't everything... Did you get to see any storyline bits or anything showing her personality?

I read somewhere that the concept of XIII's main character design was "female Cloud." But you have yet to play it yet (I assume) so give it a chance; you may be surprised (as I was when I played Kingdom Hearts).

Now XII never really impressed me (and I prepare for people to throw virtual garbage at my virtual self). I miss the old-school battle system...

The only thing I don't really like about VersusXIII was the main guy - to me and I think it might be obvious with you guys too, the way he moves looks very similar to the way Cloud moves in Advent Children... I understand that it's probably the same guy who does the movements for the characters, but really I quite liked it if he was a little more 'unique'...

that's probably the only thing I don't like about the upcoming game...

I always noticed in seeing the trailer that the fights scene was really similar to Advent Children (and Kingdom Hearts, for that matter), mostly with people running up skyscrapers, but also the camera angles and such... I actually never much paid attention to Noct's movements alone, but come to think of it, you are right.

I can't say it really bothers me, because it makes me think more of Nomura than Cloud himself, so it basically just feels like Final Fantasy even just with that little bit... and it's just really, really cool.

All the characters...they're kinda the same, aren't they? I mean, they may look different, and have different names, but aren't they all similar? I think there are very few characters I've seen and thought, 'oh, x is really new and different'. So for myself, it's more about the world. I could probably five games with the same characters starting from square one each time, as long as the worlds and plots were suitably different.

The thing is, whenever they do give us a character that's new and different, nobody likes them. Think Quina. It makes more sense for them to go with the types people have been proven to like. Regardless of their basic personality type, I thikn the little things really do make them stand out: their pasts, their situations, small personality points... Every little thing gives you insight into what sets them apart.

One character I really think is a good example of someone who seems like a carbon copy of past characters but isn't is Rikku. Yeah, she's the hyper happy girl, but if you look past that, she cares about Yuna more than anyone but Tidus (in my opinion) and is willing to go to such great lengths to save her. She's discriminated against, she faces her fears in the Thunder Plains, and the one simple comment she makes declining going to the Farplane made me realize how deep a character she really is.

For Noctis, I think it's impossibly cute that he's shy. whee

I actually like the fact that Lighting looks like Cloud >.<
and besides, it's more about world and story rather than characters' looks.
Well, that's just me I guess

Someone said that Lightning acts like Cloud and is the "Female-Cloud." I'm assuming you meant before Cloud went emo because Lightning seems like the one who says, "You're in the way, I'm strong enough to do it myself." I don't know. Just my impression of her personality after playing the Japanese Demo. I don't really see it as a problem. They haven't developed many elements for her at all yet so it's too early to tell. Plus how can you review a game that's not even out yet. O.o People are getting ahead of themselves.

I'm not gonna buy FFXIII the day it's put on the shelves but I will be watching what people say as to whether or not I buy it. From just the demo though, I'm liking the black guy. Don't know his name though..... Just him having that little chick in his afro is too funny.

Also people were mentioning someone named Noct or Noctis..... who is that exactly? I haven't been keeping up with news articles much, I only know Lightning and the white dude with blonde hair, almost a Seifer look, and they named him Snow. I may be wrong and that may be Noct.

Lulz~

Lightning has been offically stated to have be designed as 'female Cloud'. I don't know if that's supposed to represent her personality or looks, though.

Noctis is the name of the main character in Final Fantasy VersusXIII.
