I only care about good posture during marching season. During concert time, bleh. But then again, I always sit with good posture. A natural habit of mine.

It's like this: You don't want to go to heaven yet, so don't point up. You surely don't want to go to hell, so don't point down. You want to stay here, so stay level.

My bd recently said something about my posture during full band. He's like "I'm not going to mention any names because I wouldn't want to embarrass Haley." So he said at IMEA i was sitting in the back of my chair, while everyone else was sitting on the front of their chair. He made it sound like my posture was bad, but it wasn't; it was just different. It chorus, we're told to sit in the back of our chairs with like our back flat against the chair, but most flute players sit on like the edge of the chair... I don't know... but at some point I'll probably end up like falling off the chair. =/

If its those speacial music chairs, then you can sit back as long as your back is flat against the back of the chair. They're meant to give you good posture

It bugs me a lot when the posture is really really bad, like the way beginers usually sit, but they have been playing for 4 years.
It also bugs me when one person(usually on the end)sits horribly and it just ruins the professionality of the entire band
and of course the worst part is that the band dirrectors always see a bad flutist's posture before any other instrument becase of the intrument angle and they are constantly yelling at us to sit up and then other instruments(usually trumpets) use that against us in our little bouts of sectional fights, of course their posture is usually worse, but no one cares because they are in the back and aren't as noticeable

I try to have good posture.. It annoys the heck outta me when other flute players just hunch over, or just overall bad posture. It looks so AWFUL! And it says (in a way) that the director doesn't care about posture... Which can be a good or bad thing. I've always been told to have good posture

Good posture is good if you want to be able to play well. It's not necessarily going to make you play well, but it makes it a possibility. You have to be comfortable when you play, but you also have to sit in a way that makes it possible for you lungs to expand. fosho
