Does anyone else have this problem?

I've started to abhor homework because it's taking away my practice time.

And I've started slacking off a little on homework. It's like I'll see my violin sitting out begging to be played, and I'll look across the room and see a bookbag full of homework. And violin is much more fun.

And I also have rehearsals for different groups almost every night, so that also limits my time.

And I just can't get motivated to do homework. Ever.

So does anybody have any tips for practice and homework?

I do too but unfortunately with the equivalent of college classes homework has to come first. I wish I had more time to practice but I don't. Which reminds me I really shouldn't be on but I must juggle a social life, too. rolleyes

I've had that problem... make it a reward system. everytime you finish something of your homework play a piece or two. the hardest part is to remember to pull yourself away from playing, so, set a timer and when it goes off, go back to your homework.

Thanks, I think I'll try that.

I'm in my exames year and I said to myself not to do much, because of the little time I would have then. But stiil I have to join a contest, play with three orchestra's solo-violin (with orchestra accompany) and I go to Athene to give two ore three concerts. Next to that I have to give a few other concerts....busy...

Hmmm... same thing as Kilora, I have AP classes, so it gets difficult. I have mastered the art of lunchtime homework binges in the library; at my school, we spend so much time with our majors that we all have to do our homework in the library, so we sort of frantically go over eachothers' notes five minutes before class. lol

No, really, though; do it during lunch, on the bus if you ride the bus, while your orchestra teacher is talking to another section... (although that involves multi-tasking since you have to listen too). If you get breaks during rehearsal, there's another good time to snatch a couple of questions. Also, I've found that if I can practice as soon as you get home, that's actually best; then I can do my homework later, when my parents don't want me to be playing because it's too late or whatever.

I've slacked off a tad as well with homework lately, though; two weeks ago, my orchestra teacher committed suicide, and I ditched all of my classes for like a week so I could play at her funeral and help out... now I'm concert master of my orchestra, and I have to keep everything under control because our other teacher now has to teach all four orchestras and keep everything going on a nationally competitive level. sad

You're welcome! I'm ok... just tired. Anyway, I hope that it helps, at least a little bit.

Does your school have seperate practice rooms? Mine has four or five little rooms with a mirror, stand and chairs, usually a piano, etc; they're not as nice as most colleges have, but still nice to have. Sometimes I can practice during lunch if I ask nicely. That helps when I have a lot of homework that I can't do at school; if you have them, utilize them.

Sadly, homework has taken priority. But my new orchestra is like going back to middle school for me, so I should be able to get by with only practicing on the weekends until I get the hang of my new school.
P.S.
What's a social life? rofl

Oh, I'm sorry; the comment about the college was probably confusing.

I'm a junior in high school, but we have practice rooms at my school. We also have a separate building across the street from the main campus for the music facility, and a new $22 million theater. (Sorry... couldn't resist bragging... redface )

The college thing was irrelevant; I was just remembering how nice UNLV's practice rooms were, and they're not even a good music school! Ours are crappy compared to theirs, and we only have like five. But they're still useful, if your school has any.

Haha, yeah that confused me. I've never heard of a high school having practice rooms. Your high school sounds pretty nice.
