so yes! I have FINALLY started writing both the book version of this RP turned literary genius and started thinking about possibly having a webcomic version to motivate me to do the book, and also because it would make a freaking great anime =P

So, this thread is mainly for me to back check things with Laki, but if you're interested, feel free to come and see what's happening =D

Alrighty, the first thing i have done was take the youkai out and replace it with something new, because i want this to be a good book, and not come out looking like trashy teenager weeaboo stuff =P

BUT in this I have devised this new order of the creatures which I will describe here:

Elementals:

These are related directly with the Major elements Fire, Air, Water, Earth, and the minor Elements Light, Dark, Ice, and Thunder/Lightning (which needs a better name).

Such things would be of course, what are known as air elementals, fire elementals, onwards, though would also include things such as wood nymphs, water sprites, and so forth.

These creatures are primarily composed of the element that they are affiliated with and can switch between a slightly humanoid form and the pure essence of their element.

When a creature is purely associated with one elemental, we have what are commonly known as Elementals.
When one has the very slightest bit of another element, they are like wood nymphs (primarily earth with a hint of Water), water sprites (Primarily water with a hint of Air), and so forth

Anima:

Anima are associated directly with animal essences and raw, pure, life force-Anima (from Latin).

Such beings are generally affiliated with one particular species and can shape shift from that species to a humanoid form and any where inbetween. However, even in full human form, at least one portion of themselves will still be animal, like Seifer's ears, which shrink a little, but never go away completly.

It is said that if an Anima ever managed to complete shift to human, they would lose their connectivity with the life force and become less than human.

Such creatures are often called were-creatures, though they are not exactly the same, which we will get into later.

Azera and Seifer (who's name will be changed unfortunetly =P ) are such creatures, though for any animal that exists, there also exists an Anima form.

Most Anima primarly remain in there half-forms (halfway between human
and their animal) for convienance.

Terrestrials:

Now terrestrials are those linked with the elements, but not directly affiliated with any of them, and are generally contain very mixed amounts of elements.

They are also composed entirely of Terra-related components (ie, 'natural' things, with lack of all Mystic). These would include all animals, and to an extent, humans.

Although some Terrestrials can sense Mystic components, or even learn to control some, they did not originate with Mystic.

However, humans are a little bit different.
They were once beings of pure lifestream, lacking even the animal traces that Anima had.

They were ethreal and kept the balance of the earth.
Unfortunetly, there was a cosmic disastor which resulted in an inner turning of the lifestream. IE, just like when you till the ground the earth from the bottom comes to the top, the lifestream of Terra switched places.

This ancient and very condensed lifestream from the planet's core tainted the humans, and made them susceptible to the other forces.

they then began to absorb mixtures of what they had come in contact with, which was primarily Terra and Terrestrial substance, but also a large mixing of elements and even just the minute bit of Mystic.

Through this, the Mystic made them smarter, and able to reproduce more easily (before only one in 20 couples would ever have a child)

However, this tradeoff left them confused, with their new intelligence making it hard to read the lifestream, leading to confused morals and unknown rights and wrongs.
They are still very susceptible to their environmental factors, primarily now other humans.

Mystics
Last but definetly not least are the Mystics.

These mystics are composed primarly of cosmic interactions and powers, born from a clash of lifestream and those unseen forces that create all.

They can easily surpass most Terrestrial things that hold others back, tuning into the Mystic to do miracles and wonders.

They too are sometimes Elementally affiliated, but in a way unlike any other.

It can seem paradoxical, but one Mystic can be both 100% Fire affiliated and 100% Water Afilliated.

We see a prime example of this in Lydia, who being the last of the dragons, has also received all powers and affiliations of all of the original dragon clan royalty. Though in genetics she should only be Ice affiliated, she comes by this special passing of royalty to be 100% Affiliated in EVERY element.

The mystics normally live for extremly long periods of times (Such as the dragons, the vampires, the demons to some extent (though they rarely survive to maxmize this because of all the fighting).

Note: Demons were actually the product of a long time ago union of the fire element and Mystic

that's what i managed ot come up with after musing of the youkai problem ;D

I will review them in order 3nodding .

Elementals: I better stay primarily out of this one's development. My opinions of elements are very solid due to Lamine: Tale of a Kia, in which the ENTIRE story revolves the elements. *go ask Wind, haha*
I like your theory though for this story, only their needs to be an explanation of origins connecting them to the planet. It might be as easy as saying they existed just as the planet existed, but why do they bother looking human?

Anima: I'm a little confused about these guys, as the planet Oppression takes place on is NOT earth right? Assuming animals were brought to Terra (this is the planet's name, yes?) then maybe a connection to being quickly evolved from the animals humans brought with them can be mentioned? There could be interesting conflicts with a dog Anima turning against humanity, or maybe working for them.
Also, the word Anima immediately means this to me... clicky! XD

Terrestrials: Lifestream is the exact term coined in FF7 for the idea you're thinking of, so I'd be a bit concerned with that... I think I'll need to have an example of a character to understand this completely. Are there any existing characters who are this?
is it basically saying they appear to be perfectly normal humans, but in truth, they originated as Terrestrials?

Mystics: I love these guys, very easy to get. Only thing is the question of what beings were here before the humans?
The double-element mastery can be explained through a sort of yin-yang system, like how Vance was made more complete by taking on the ice powers through Lydia in the battle against his father.

what ff7 has lifestream from is the Gaia theory, which is an actual theory, thought up before final fantasy, even though final fantasy uses the gaia theory alot in most of their games, the most know being of course the whole ff7 armada XD

however, I'm using the gaia theory as what it is, the gaia theory, not a playoff of final fantasy's version =3

gaia means earth in greek XD

Anima is the Latin word for Lifeforce XD

The Terrestrials are the animals only =D

humans are a gianormous mix of pretty much EVERYTHING now, though they ended up with more terrestrial components =3

elementals actually prefer to exist in their elemental form, though the condence to a 'human' (though in actuallity, it's based on a sorta default base that was created, and which the humans are most like, so on so forth...i can talk about that for a while XD) form to converse with others, and so forth.

I should make note my elementals are far far away from most normal versions of elementals

Essential Terra Flares in the lifestream (sorta like solar flares XD) at the begining of Terra created initial Anima. However, being pure, they automatically latched onto the first living being they encountered and absorbed some of their qualities.
At the time Anima were created, the only other creatures on Terra were the Terrestrials

The theory for now is some unknown greater beings, perhaps some form of extreme Mystic, created the Terrestrials out of the materials already found on Terra.

They(the plants) used Quintessence to bring the initial creatures to life; small smecks of quitessence occasionally landed on Terra, causing the birth of all plant life, which are the only beings that can convert impure Quintessence (solar energy, because stars are made of Quintessence), into Terrestrial material.

The also brought with them the four Elements with them (fire, water, air, earth) which merged with the remaining terra materials, giving them various properties.

where too much of one element condenced, elementals were formed.

at this point, Terra's lifeforce was very near the surface of the planet, as it had not yet receded to the core, so occasionaly 'spikes' in the lifeforce would also condence, forming pure Anima.

now, after all this had happened, these greater lifeforms decided that there needed to be some form of guardian to make sure Terra was regulated; however, just like our bodies, It could not be an outside sourse, as Terra would not recognize it.

So the greater lifeforms took bits of pure lifeforce and creater humans, without bias or anything else, to run the works of the planet.

^ what I'm going by is the section that says that the earth is an entire life system, including all the organisms that live on it, collectivly called gaia.

not a very indepth article, but it gives an overveiw
