Yes, I know, I've got five. But they're growing up so fast!

I'm getting empty nest syndrome mrgreen

*Sneakily builds up her form for Saturday*

Quote:

Semi-custom order

Name: Jordan Pryor Underbridge
Species: Dwarf or half dwarf, half human, you pick.
Build: Short, very muscular, flat (she can easily pass as a boy)
Clothing style: Steampunk Inventor (Goggles, pleeeassse?)
Gender: Female

Funds as of 1-10-09

Feb '07 letter: 28,316
April '07 letter: 83,883
May '07 letter: 71,872
June '07 letter: 109,321
Sept '07 letter: 42,272
14,336g pure

Total = 350,000

Abney Park Songs that have a bit of influence in her design^^
Airship Pirates
Post Apocalypse Punk
This Dark and Twisty Road

Notes on style: Because Jordan's a girl (and a tomboy) I'm perfectly good if you want to go either male or female steampunk. It'd be funny to see a wildly muscular girl running around in a corset and striped stockings, or something, but she'd look awesome in guy steampunk too. Brown, brass, black, any of the regular colors are good with me, as well. I just really want the goggles, please!

Beards: cuz all dwarfs have beards in the Pratchett world, male or female. I'd be fine if she didn't have one when she's grown, but it'd be funny if she did, so that's up to you, too. *dies, picturing a bearded dwarf in a corset and tattered skirt* Oh lord, this could get dangerous, couldn't it?

BTW, I'm totally not worried about how simple or detailed you want to draw her clothing, so don't freak out about it, k? I'm positive I'll love her no matter what you dress her in!

Best Ice’s Kids
Ice Queen, one of the managers of the Cabbage Patch has a nice little collection of kids that she would love for you to draw! She’s offered a June 07 letter for the first prize, and 50k pure for the second if there are more than ten entries. Her children are: Antony, Christian, Polly, Austin, Kashmira, and Jordan. More information can be found further down or in their journals.

Steampunk Inventor Girl

Name: Abigail Melissa
Species: Dwarf-like, without the beard
Height: No more than 4'5 at full growth
Build: Muscular, flat chested, and almost as broad through the shoulders as she is tall.
Hair: Black and spiky, short
Eyes: ?
Clothing: Steampunk goggles and leather-like gloves that have huge cuffs. Browns and brass colors, she wears steampunk clothes more fit for a guy than a girl. She has brass boots that go up the calf, and brass plated pockets on her pants.
Hobbies: taking things apart

Extra: A brass mechanical arm would be AWESOME. And a tool belt! Or at least a pair of pliers or a screwdriver.

General: Abi is a little antisocial. No, you can't call it that. Abi just prefers being someplace underground, where there aren't many people. She has the bad habit of taking things apart to see how they work, then leaving the pieces scattered over the room. As she gets older she'll start trying to put things back together in ways that will "improve" the design, but more often than not make it so it doesn't work at all.

She's bold and brassy, when you actually get her attention long enough to find out, that is. She has no interest in guys... or girls, but show her a train, plane, or automobile and she'll start to drool.

She collects train sets. You can't walk through the basement without tripping over one or two. And they're usually running (unless she's suddenly decided to dissect yet another one). You'll find her sitting in the middle of her trains more often than not, a grin on her face and a conductor hat perched on top of her overly large goggles.

She has a slapstick sort of humor. She'd watch the Three Stooges all the time, if she could.

She has a size complex. She thinks the world is too big and that everyone would be happier if they were the RIGHT size, like her. She especially feels sorry for Chris, since he's so huge. And she has all of her shelves built low so she can get to them without having to use a stool. She gets irritated with stools. It's everyone else's fault for being so tall, of course.

=The Family=

Father: Axle Pryor
Age: mid forties
Species: human
Occupation: airship pilot, legal (mostly) transporter
Mate: Ker Underbridge

Axle is steampunk. We're talking goggles and a long black leather trenchcoat, leather pants and button up boots, long white hair. He's not evil, but he's always one to think of profit, no matter what the cost. He didn't know Ker was female under all those clothes until he woke up in bed with her after a very long night of drinking.

Ker, a dwarf (in Pratchett fashion) tells him that "he" (they only have one pronoun) wants a family and will head back to the mines. Axle doesn't want to lose his very profitable first mate, so he convinces Ker that they can raise a kid and still keep up the business. Hence, why they're getting a cabbage with a mix of his genes and Ker's.

Mother: Ker Underbridge
Age: almost 100
Species: dwarf
Occupation: first mate
Mate: Axle Pryor

Ker is a very pretty little dwarf. He wears his black beard parted into two braids. Yes, I did say beard. Yes, he's female. It's a dwarf thing, okay? Only one pronoun. He has a love for metal boots, an axe almost as big as he is, and can chop a man down with a single swing.

But his biological clock is ticking. He's getting up there in years and is inordinately fond of Axle, even if he is a mere human. He knows it's not smart, of course. Humans live such short lives, so he's intent on going back to the mines and finding another dwarf to settle down with.

Then Axle brings up this strange idea and he can't help but give in. It's only a year or two, after all.

To Dwarf or Gnome, that is the question.

I, personally, picture a Terry Pratchett female dwarf, minus the beard. TB says that she should be a gnome like from the Dragon Lance books. Which I haven't read, so I got no clue.

The easiest way to solve this is to leave it up to the artist and make her a semi custom. Like say "Steampunk Inventor, female, short & muscular"

And then I might not get the goggles. But it would be cheaper and solve the dwarf to gnome dilemma.

The Brass Factor

Why so much brass? It's a brittle metal and it can turn your fingers green! But it would look so cool on her! (Will get pictures here... soon as she learns how to draw, that is)

Artist Hunting twisted

I'm thinking Smerdle, but I love Glampanda's work, as well. I've got two kids by Em, and I adore them, and I've got two kids by TB and adore them too, and, of course, Polly is my gorgeous little Natsube girl^_^

Yeah, I'm spoiled. But if it makes you feel better Chris was the only one I got because I help run the shop^^ The others I won by competition or I paid for. And I like to think I work hard to pay for Chris on a regular basis 3nodding

And none of the kids I have could, in any way possible, be considered neglected.

Well, ultimately it's you who's going to play her, so if you think of her as a Pratchett dwarf, I say go for it. XD (But I'm biased; Discworld!Dwarves are the best!)

On the other hand, if it's only the goggles that's tempting you, you could always just give them to her ICly when she becomes a toddler and ask the artist to include them on the growth form from toddler-stage up. n_n It'd definitely be cheaper, and yeah. xD;

Smerdle has an awesome quirky style, and I definitely agree with you there.

This is an awesome concept, and Abigail sounds both very interesting and unique. Her personality is WIN and she sounds like she'll be so much fun to RP with. XD I hope you don't mind me posting here, if you do, I'll delete it ASAP. <3 *shows support!*

*Tests to see who actually reads her quest threads*

I would like to make one comment, not as a quest maker, but as someone who's once in a while called upon to help judge competitions. (Might be being modest here.)

This new trend for vague quests, while easy on the artists, isn't really helping with your chances of winning a competition in the future. Sure, we understand that you're open to all concepts, but we need a personality, likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc. These are things that can be changed slightly to fit the appearance of the child.

We're a very strong RP based shop, when it comes down to it. We like strong first impressions, engaging characters that we, the present guardians and shop keepers, want to roleplay with. If you start working on those things long before the competition you're more likely to win the competition.

Think it through, guys, that's what I'm really asking for you to do. That's what the quest area is really for. If you've got more than one idea come up with a personality for each of them! By doing that you might be able to come up with something you really love to write.

But again, there's always the random (very rare) raffle, and the auction (a little less rare). Both can cost a lot more than actually thinking things through, though. Not to mention make you wait a lot longer. Oh, and the open custom slots, but those tend to be rare, as well.

Vague quests are boring. D: Hey, Zige knows she's probably going to end up getting a semicustom for Crowley and a theme custom for Magdelen and Magdelen might not even turn out as a girl! But it's fun to imagine anyway. X3 Thanks for the advice, Ice!

I've got a pretty good idea of where I want Iselda, my quest, to go with her personality and some plots, but putting it down in a thread feels awkward for me because she isn't real (...yet!) ICly. XD; Not to mention I've always been a bit bad with personalities; they always end up one-dimensional for me, and though I've been getting better, it's still a bit of a problem.

But I'll try to incorporate your advice when my cat isn't taking up most of the keyboard. Thanks a bunch for the advice! heart

It's hard to come up with a multi layered personality, especially when they start out as 2-3 year olds, I know. And one fear I have is that I might repeat the same character style over and over again, because I'm good at it.

Like I'm constantly asking if Polly and Kash might be too much alike. Then I think of how they'd react in the same position. If Kash was mad at someone she'd rip into them verbally and use a lot of sarcasm. If Polly was mad she'd start heating up (literally) and yelling at them about how stupid they are. And as she gets older, try to light them on fire.

Which is a great way to layer your characters! Make a list of feelings and situations, then come up with how they react to them. You could start out with the basics and work your way up to mini stories!

Mad
Happy
Jealous
Embarrassed

You know, stuff like that^^

I think Abi would be one to get revenge when they weren't expecting it, like glare at the person when it happens and the next day they find their car in pieces in the parkinglot.

That's some really great advice, Ice. *3* I'll be trying that out for sure! I've been trying to figure out how to get more fleshed out personalities and I've had no ideas whatsoever, so this is really water landing in a dry spot.
You're really good at this, and most people just tend to go 'That's nice!' which is nice and ego-boosting, but not very useful in the long run.

I got my bachelors in English^_^ And I know how frustrating it is to just get "What a great idea!" and no critique. Critique, when done right, is what can make a good idea become an awesome idea.

It definitely can. Most people seem to think that giving a friend critique would be offending them, even when they asked for it, which is just silly. A critique isn't telling people that they suck, it's showing them how to get better.

Thanks a bunch for this, it really helped me out a lot and I'll do my best to improve! heart
