confused What does fruits basket really mean it really has nothing to do wit the show? question

Well...If you read the books it makes much more sense. Thoru played a game in her class when she was little. The game was called Fruits Basket. Everyone was assigned a fruit. Thouru was assigned the riceball by another kid. Then, all the kids call out fruits and when your fruit is called you can play. But no one ever called the riceball. So she felt left out. And ever since then she always felt like she didn't belong. She felt like a riceball in a fruits basket. Until she met the Shomas, They brought her in and treated her kindly. She finally felt like she belonged.
Anyways, that is how it has to do with the books.
