Pride sighed as he returned from his scavanging mission. He hated it, but having four or five chickadees made everything easier. He dropped a small pile of sticks at the drop-off area.

Meep carried a large leaf. Pride didn't trust him entirely with sticks..he was too unpredictable. Meep had already chewed through the leaf and was mumbling to himself insanly as he dropped it off.

Strut came next. Boastful and proud, he dropped his sizable bundle of sticks. "I did good, right Pride?" he chirped. Pride smiled and patted his head with one wing. "Yes. Very good."

He watched as Canuck came soon after. A northern breed of chickadee, she was much more aggressive then the others. She did not get on well with Meep and he often had to forcfully seperate them. She dropped her sticks and grumbled swears about the back-breaking labour of carrying a few pieces of glass and beads.

And last came Pride's newest friend, the laid back and nonchalant Ladybird. He had been named for his red colour when his parents thought he was a girl. He didn't mind the name, it seemed. He didn't mind anything. He would nestle beside an owl if it was a comfy spot to rest. Pride admired him as he dropped the last bundle of sticks.

Due to an earlier fight, Pride had to seperate Canuck from his final passeridae Burbank, which is why there were only four. He sighed and fluttered his wings softly, freeing them of water spray.

"I think that's enough work for today, gang. Let's go visit Yield." he lifted off and they obediently followed. He swerved and headed for his friend's nest, landing. "Hey Yield! You home!?" he cried.

"My mama is out," came a quiet reply from within Yield's nest. The pidge who had spoken was none other than Pebble, Yield On Green's teenaged daughter. After she spoke, rustling could be heard from within the nest before the young pidge poked her head out to see who had arrived. An eyebrow raised in curiosity at the sight of Pride and his associates - he must have been a friend of her mother's.

To look more presentable, Pebble put on the scarf Station had given her when she and her mom had first arrive and smiled. "She'll be back later, though. You can come in and wait, if you like." Pebble ruffled her feathers after saying this, a quirk she often did when she got excited. Perhaps, even though this pidge was a friend of her mother's, she would make a new friend, too!

Pride had only seen glimpses of his friend's daughter and he smiled at her. "Aww, well aren't you a peach." he said in a friendly voice. "You must be Pebble." he said. He curtsied. "I'm Gay Pride Parade. You can call me Pride. And this is Ladybird, Strut, Can- CANUCK!"

When he was talking to Pebble, Cancuk had bitten down on Meep's feathers and was crowding him. Meep was squealing and hissing at her. Pride flared his massive wings and puffed himself out. He was really just a massive fluffy ball now, but the two backed off from him and eachother. He twittered in something Pebble would not understand and the two smaller birds twittered back. Pride then pulled Canuck to his side with one wing. "My apologies...Canuck's a bit of a menace. Always getting into scuffles..." He closed his eyes and sighed. "Anyway, this is Canuck and the little one over there is Meep. I'll try to keep them under control."

Pebble could only blink when Pride curtsied and introduced himself. A peach? She had never been called that before, and especially not by a guy! "Nice to mee-.." But her sentence was cut off by the squabbling of the other little birds.

Despite all the commotion, Pebble couldn't help but watch in awe. It was amazing how Pride was able to communicate with the other birds so quickly, even if he was angry with them for fighting with one another! If only she could do that, the young pidge thought. That would be a feat in and of itself.

After everything had settled back down again, Pebble looked from Pride, to Canuk, then to Meep and back to Pride again. Her eyes seemed to change over the course of the squabble, going from wide to sparkling with joy in a matter of moments. "Do it again," she exclaimed in an excited, high-ptiched voice. Pebble then flailed her wings in order to get her point across, and to show her excitement. "Talk to them again, please!"

Pride was taken aback by her reaction. He then gave her another soft smile. He was glad she was excited by his communication with the passeridae. He nodded and turned, chirping at Ladybird. Ladybird nodded and stepped over to the girl, bowing and giving her feathers a preen.

"There were lots of passeridae around when I was growing up." he explained. "I learned how to speak with them because no-one wanted to be my friend."

The fledgling's eyes widened again when Ladybird walked over to her and bowed after Pride had told him to do so. Awestruck, she just stood there in silence for a moment before scrambling to bow back in return.

Pebble looked over at Pride once she had straightened back up. She tilted her head at his story as she listened intently to his every word. When he was finished, she couldn't help but frown. "Why would no one want to be your friend? You seem like a very nice pidge!"

He shook his head. "Because I was different, little one. I didn't... I didn't like female pidge, you see. Well, I mean, I did like them but I didn't want to be mates with any of them. I liked male pidge." He sat down and his chickadees crowded him. He twittered to them softly, making sure Meep and Canuck stayed away from eachother.

"What's so wrong with that," the young pidge murmured after taking a seat opposite in the nest from him and all of his chikadees. Pebble then puffed up her feathers and shook her head at the fact that no one would talk to Pride when he was young because of that. "Love is love," she murmured, "it's not like you can help it."

Pride smiled at her. "You have to learn that I was gay before other pidge shared your views. Things are much easier for me now. And if anyone's got a problem, they can deal with my flock." he patted one or two of his chickadees.

"So what about you, hun?" he asked. "What's your story?"
PostPosted: Sun Dec 07, 2008 9:23 am

Pebble blinked and remained silent for a moment. The question had taken her aback. Story? She didn't really have a story - not one that she could remember much of, anyway. Shrugging, she gazed out of her nest and to the area beyond as if she were looking out toward something.

"There's not much to tell," Pebble confessed.

She got up from her spot after saying this and moved closer to the edge of the nest. Pebble raised a wing and pointed out to the horizon. "All I remember is that we came from somewhere else. My mom and me. And that it was raining when we arrived here. Baker took us in. I think mom was just happy that we had a place to stay..." Her voice then trailed off as her thoughts drifted away. Should she mention that she didn't have a father? Would he look down at her?

Pebble decided to keep quiet about that little detail. It wasn't important; at least, not right now

He patted her on the head with a wing. "Well its lovley to have you here, hun!" he laughed, then fliched and hissed as Meep turned and packed Strut on the head. He flared his wings again, but strut paid no heed and began to claw at Meep. When Pride moved his wing to split them up, Canuck launched at them both, making a three passeridae scuffle, Pride shouting in Passeridae.

She beamed happily when Pride patted her, but then took a step back once the passeridae started squabbling again. They certainly were a loud bunch! As Pride shouted at the little flock of chickadees, Pebble couldn't help but watch with intense interest. Only when it seemed to be safe to talk did she open her beak to speak.

"C-...can you teach me how to do that? Speak to them?"

Pride had meep under one talon and canuck under the other. he wasn't hurting them, but he did have their wings gripped shut. Canuck kept chirping loudly, so he used three feathers to hold her beak shut.

He was out of breath. "Sorry again. They are awfully naughty today. It might be because we're not at home that they're acting up." he sighed and looked up. "I'd love to! We can all help!" he said. "they can chirp, i can translate and then you can repeat! he was delighted.
