Ok 3 days ago I bought a Laptop Compaq Presario CQ50-215NR for $400 (which I found to be a great deal) I want to run Ubuntu for 2 main reasons 1. My old computer when I tried ubuntu you would have thought you were running vista on a 2 MHz cpu (Not Really But it went slow as hell) 2. Is because although I like openSUSE and all every download from the main repos would crawl so slow you'd think you wanted to kill your self (yet again a dramatization but yeah it sucked bad)
First Dilima ------------------------------- Wifi I tried looking for a list of supported Wifi and when I found it the page wouldn't display also im not quite sure what my Integrated Wifi is because on the Box it said "802.11 b/g" while vista (run and hide Everyone I said the V word) says "Atheros AR5009 802.11a/g/n WiFi Adapter" So im kinda lost there ---------------------------------/ Second Dilima --------------------------------- Ok not a big problem but where would I go (once I install Ubuntu) to get the drivers for my "NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G" ---------------------------------/ Third off --------------------------------- What packages (apps, Applications Doesn't matter does it) Would you recommend

Glad to hear that at least one of your problems is solved, now onto the wireless, this depends on what you are using to manage your connections and what tool you are using but in most cases it should prompt for the passpharse for both wep and wpa depending on your card/driver and connection system supports it. I know with Knetworkmanager when you connect to a encripted network it will see that and ask the user for the passphrase, or you could configure it as one of your connections with the passpharse and have it enter it automatically. As for the programs there are many programs that I can't live without (Firefox, Kmail, Amarok, Dragon Player, Kaffeine Kdevelop, Quanta+, OpenOffice, VIM, Wireshark, etc) but without knowing what it is exactly that you are wanting to do with your laptop it is hard to suggest programs for you to try.
